Hi!! Lindi here.
First, I’d like to congratulate Beth Gillihan on winning a copy of Email me at authorlindip at gmail (dot) com. We’re also having a FB party here starting today! Please join the fun if you’d like.
I talked last month about novellas. I found I really enjoy writing them. But I have been on such a tight schedule with my day job and trying to write, that I’ve been tight on time for other things. But the good news?
I’m going on vacation.
And I’m going to read! Ha! (At least I think I am. We will have our 18 month old grandson with us, but his parent’s are coming, too.) I made sure I had the novella done that I’m working on now. I didn’t want to work while on vacation. Except as writers, were really always working in a way. Because our stories flow through our brains and veins almost all the time. It’s hard to turn it off. I keep wondering why I’m still doing this and it’s because I have to for the release of the folks living in my head. (Gosh! I hope that doesn’t sound too weird.)
Next week we are going to Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida. It’s north of St. Augustine and south of Jacksonville. We really like the beach. It’s nice and not crowded. We go every other year with my husband’s family, and this year decided to go with some of my family. The youngest one going is 18 months, the oldest 92. (And she rocks the bathing suit!! I’m serious.)
The next trip is in the works. My son and his wife just moved to NYC! And I’ve never been. His 30th birthday is in November and hubby and are planning a trip. We are thinking of staying in an Air B&B. Has anyone stayed in one? I know people who have and they’ve been pleased with the results.
(This is the view from their apartment!–and their cat, Ollie)
What a contrast, right? The beach and the big city. The thing is I love them both. But I’ve been leaning toward writing novels set in super urban areas. The novella series I talked about in my last post was a small town city. Small community, but restaurants, parks and shops. But then, think New York. I can’t wait to go and experience the city. I’m sure I’ll have a “novel” idea come into mind. I am also writing a series set in downtown Atlanta. It’s called Love Atlanta Style. Those books are fun and urban. Fast-paced and full of city life. Uber, walking to the grocery and high rise apartments.
Do you have a particular “feel” you like to read? If you answer comment “urban” you will be in a drawing for a copy of Uptown Heiress, the first book in my Love Atlanta Style series.
If you comment “small town” you’ll be in the drawing for a copy of Love and Grace–a boxed set with my small town romance, One Autumn Love.
Yes, 2 #giveaways!!
Read on! Big city or small town, just keep reading.

Vacation and reading…my two favorite words, Lindi. Have a great time!
Esther Morehead says
Small Town. Though I’ve lived in both, I much prefer small town living.
Wemble says
Holidays- yay, enjoy:) We have a week and a half left until term break and are heading to the Flinders Ranges to do some walking. It makes sense then that I like reading books set in small towns. I have read plenty set in big cities and will continue to do so, but something about a smaller town appeals. Enjoy your time with family.
Renate says
Enjoy your vacation to the coast and visit with your son in NYC. Hope you enjoy the Big Apple.
I am looking forward to the FB party today for Kisses, Kids, and Bundles of Joy.
Enjoyed reading your small town romance One Autumn Love in the boxed set Love and Grace. My father, son, and I are slightly dyslexic. Have had several friends with MS. Your selection One Autumn Love was an inspiring start to the set. Have not read all the selections yet, but so far yours is my favorite. The cover is gorgeous. Autumn is my favorite time of year.
I have lived on both sides of Lake Michigan, Chicago for 10 years but most of my life in small town in SW Michigan. I enjoy all kinds of settings.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Have a lovely vacation! I enjoy reading both settings, but I enjoy writing more urban settings. I’m just now experimenting with a small town setting and it’s a challenge. :)
Teri DiVincenzo says
Enjoy every second of your vacation! My personal favorite setting is in a small town…I grew up in one, and I think there’s so much more personal investment in a small town! But truthfully, I don’t mind an urban setting either…just because I don’t want to live there doesn’t mean I don’t like to live vicariously!
Lindi P says
Thanks, Jill!
Lindi P says
Hi Esther–I love your name. :) I have lived in both as well. There are things about each that I like.
Lindi P says
Wemble—have fun doing some walking. I do love to walk. Not running. Ever. Ever! I think smaller town present a sense of community–but urban settings have that as well. I think it’s just harder to “see.” (I’m not sure that makes sense. )
Lindi P says
Renate–Thank you so much for your comments one One Autumn Love. I fell in love with the hero, William. :) My son and his wife lived in Chicago, Lincoln Park, for 3 years. I loved going there in the summer. I stayed away during the winters. ha! This girl moved from Ohio to Ga, and I like my southern winters. And thank you for supporting the boxed set. All the proceeds are going to the school. :)
Lindi P says
Elizabeth–and Uptown kind of girl. I love it! And yes, the settings and vibes are so different. But they are both fun. Let us know how yours turns out. I’m sure it will be awesome.
Lindi P says
Teri—so true about living vicariously. I think I do that with my characters. :) I just love community. Wherever we can find it, right? Thanks for stopping by!
Diana says
Enjoy your vacation! I enjoy small town reading a little more than urban, but really enjoy both as well as historical fiction. We just fished visiting our children two in Nashville and one in the country near bowling Green, Kentucky. The stars were incredible in the country. The caramel apples from a nearby orchard were wonderful.

The only experience I have had with Airbnb in NYC has been through a friend. Unfortunately it was a terrible experience. The bathroom floor even fell into the kitchen!!! Sorry. NYC itself is so much fun. Love Carnegie deli! Biggest sandwich I have ever seen and they give you a lesson on different types of dill pickles.
Carol Daigle says
Have a great vacation…I like urban, because I grew up in a small town and we didn’t have too much to do for entertainment . We did have a library and we spent a lot of time there.
Dana Michael says
Small Town. I live in a very small town outside of Memphis. I’m close enough to drive into Memphis and shop. Have a great vacay!
Margaret Nelson says
I think I prefer reading about small towns, even though I’ve never lived in one :-) Haven’t tried Air BnB yet, because the times I’ve checked prices, nearby motels have been cheaper!
Priscila says
I love vacations at the beach. My grandpa has a beach house and my family used to go there every year. I’ve moved too far away to join them for the past 6 summers, and now when I thought I would again, things change and I’m bound to miss another year, but in 2017 I’ll be there (wishful thinking).
I was however living close to NYC for 5 years and only went into the city 2-3 times (we booked a place through HomeAway instead of Airbnb and loved it). I thought I’d do it more often, but really like more small town environments these days.
Lindi P says
Diana—That’s such beautiful country in Tennessee and Kentucky. What great takeaways you have. As an author, things like that ground the reader in the story. That’s something I struggle with—those details. Thank you for the reminders. #starsandcaramelapples
Lindi P says
Terbear—Oh my!! That is a bad Airbnb experience. Yikes!!! I know the pictures are deceiving a lot of the times, but the places we’ve seen online have looked incredible. I will let you guys know what we decided to do. I’ll remember Carnegie Deli and tell my kids about it. :) Thanks!!
Lindi P says
Hi Carol—-I grew up a few years in the country, then a few in the city. (Akron) Very different, and I know what you mean about the entertainment. I also LIVED at the libraries. #lovereading
Lindi P says
Dana—Memphis–I’ve always wanted to write a book set in Memphis around the anniversary of Elvis’s death. I’ve never been to Memphis at that time, so I haven’t even entertained the idea. After I go, maybe. I know I just missed it again. Maybe next year. :) Thanks for stopping by.
Lindi P says
Margaret—Thank you for stopping by! So you are a city girl. :) Yay! I’m not sure if there are any hotels close to their place. I need to check it out. Thank you for that suggestion.
Lindi P says
Priscila—I hope you can get to the beach with your family. It’s always great and awesome hanging around family. I can see me living that close to the city and not going very often. :) I hadn’t heard of HomeAway–maybe I’ll check that out. Thank you!!
Winnie Thomas says
I love small towns. I grew up in a college town and loved it. When I got married, we lived in a large city for 30 years. We then moved back to my hometown area and are loving it! I enjoy the sense of community here.
Good luck on the trip to NYC. It’s a fun place to visit!
Merrillee Whren says
Lindi, hope your vacations are fab. I know about getting those characters out of your head by writing their story. All of our experiences with Air B&B have been good. We’ve done it both in the US and overseas.
Missy Tippens says
I’m more of a small town story person.
I’m drooling over that Autumn cover!! It’s gorgeous! Have a great trip!
Linda Hogue says
I love urban novels!
Melynda says
Small town although I like urban settings too.
Beth Gillihan says
I like both settings. I prefer to live in a smaller town, but love reading about life in the big city. Have fun on your vacation!
Lindi P says
Hi Winnie!! 30 years–that’s a long time. :) I think I would like the city life.
Lindi P says
Hi Merrillee—Good to know about the Airbnb’s. :) Thanks!!
Lindi P says
Missy–Thank you!!! I was so pleased when I saw it. Thanks for stopping by.
Lindi P says
Linda—Yay!! A Urban girl. Thanks for visiting Inspy!
Lindi P says
Melynda—Thanks for coming by Inspy today. I’m with you, I like both. :)
Lindi P says
HI Beth–My winner from last month. :) I like writing about the big city. :)
Linda Rainey. says
I enjoy small towns but have also dreamed of living in an urban condo inside a mall.
Mandi says
Love to read “urban”!! But honestly, I read everything I can get my hands on. We are going to NYC in December for the very first time as well. Maybe you can blog some pointers after your trip for those of us who have never been!!?
JoAnn Durgin says
Am I the only person on earth who didn’t know what an Air B&B was? I had to look it up! Thank you for teaching me something, Lindi! We’ve traveled quite a bit in the last few years, but I’d never heard that term before. I like writing and reading about both cities and small towns. Depends on the story and the characters, of course. I like to vary them to keep my writing fresh, too. There are obvious advantages and disadvantages of both. Sometimes I even have both in the same story! :) Your book covers are lovely, and I hope you have fun and safe travels (I’m sure you will). Blessings!
Gail Estes Hollingsworth says
May I say both? There are advantages to both.
Nancy K. says
I also like both. I have lived in both big cities and a small rural town. I am currently living in a small rural town and loving it but enjoy reading about life in urban areas too. I visited NYC this summer for the first time. We also visited Philadelphia which I also loved. I lived in the Atlanta area for 12 years so I know I would enjoy your books based in Atlanta!
Beth Erin says
I don’t mind visiting a city via reading but I am a small town girl at heart and those small town reads make me feel right at home!!! I’d love to get back down south to a beach sometime, too!
Safe travels, Lindi
