Lindi here. (I really should update my author photo!!)
One week from today I will have a new release out. The Little Black Wedding Dress, Book One in The Wedding Dress Collection will be available. There is always much anticipation and trepidation in the time before a book releases. All sorts of emotions play out-happiness, joy, and smiles fill the day as much as fear doubt and complete terror. (Okay–maybe a little exaggerated–but just a little.)
You’ve spilled your heart and soul onto pages in a document, put a pretty cover on it, consolidated your whole story into a one or two paragraph blurb, then watch as it comes alive to the public.
Some people will “get” your story while others won’t. Some people will love your writing, while others will pick apart your sentence structure in a “helpful” review. Some will say your heroine is sassy, brassy and independent, while others will say she’s pushy, bossy and wonder why any man would fall in love with her.
Ah, but isn’t it the same in life? Honestly, we can’t please everyone in every way, every day. We will all make decisions that are smart and helpful, but we’ll make decisions that we ponder on later as to why we would have done such a thing. Thought a certain way. But hey, we do the best that we can with what we have on any given day.
That’s the same with our stories. I look back at my first book, Her Best Catch. There are probably things I could have done differently with that book, but I wrote it with the knowledge and love I had all those years ago. My current release, The Little Black Wedding Dress is written with the knowledge and love I have now. We are all going to grow as people, we are going to grow as writers.
So, I pose this question. What is one area in your life you have grown, and what is one area you want to grow in? For me, I know that I would love to grow in the way I see the world. I want to see people how God sees them. Loved and beautiful. I want to remember and think about God every time I meet and converse with someone. I think I have grown in being a wife. My husband and I have a ‘let’s give’ attitude toward one another that has grown over time. (I know I still drive him crazy–a lot!!)
Here’s the blurb for The Little Black Wedding Dress.
Legend says if you wear a black dress to your wedding you’re pining for a lost love.
When someone walks out on you they’re gone forever. At least that’s how Honey Hampton sees things. But before she can leave her sister’s graveside service, Honey runs straight into her past, her lost love, Porter Landon. Porter has returned to Flying Hills with his family… and a request. Seeking a respite from her grief, Honey tumbles headlong into the midst of Porter’s family drama. But Honey refuses to lose her heart again to the only person she’s ever been in love with. Porter, determined to show her he’s a changed man, is as gallant as he is regretful over his actions that caused Honey so much hurt years ago. Will the same bitter mistakes destroy them once again? Or will Porter and Honey regain the love they thought was lost to them.
Here’s the cover! This is the photo shoot I did with all the local gals. And my cover designer rocks! She did a great job of putting together the vibe of the book into a cover that I’m thrilled with!!

One area I’ve grown in (a work in progress!)….I’ve begun to pray more for my “enemies”, those who are hurtful in words & actions and for those who don’t walk with Christ or who have rejected him. One area I want to grow in, stop complaining so much about life! I need to stop seeing life through negative lenses, and see the beauty & God’s handiwork in everything. It is hard to see that at times, so I need the eyes of God more each day. And I love how you put it, Lindi, “I want to see people how God sees them. Loved and beautiful”. For we are all sinners in the eyes of God, from big to small, and I am no better than anyone else. And if I NEED God’s grace, so does everyone else! Kind of puts things in perspective doesn’t it? :-)
I had read a post not too long ago about your book “The Little Black Wedding Dress” & it showed a photo shoot of the model with the dress on. And what a black wedding dress means, you’re pining for a lost love. I found it very interesting as I’ve never heard that before. I would hope the one getting married wouldn’t be pining for a lost love! I really like the premise of this book……mail order brides, marriages of convenience & lost loves reunited are my favorite story lines! Thank you for both sharing about yourself, your book & the chance to win a copy! I enjoyed reading it :-)

It looks like a great story, Lindi! I know that feeling of looking at our first published books and thinking there are things that we know better now so would do differently ;) I hope your release week is fabulous!

One area where I have grown – I worry less. Not sure if that’s the result of effort on my part, the answer to prayer, or just a natural result of growing older. One area where I would like to grow – stop jumping to conclusions! When something doesn’t happen as expected, I immediately begin to assume all sorts of things and almost always feel silly when none of them turn out to be true.
Good luck with your release. What an intriguing story line – must read!

Interesting cover! Now, I’m curious about the black wedding dress. I’ve seen bridesmaids in black, but not the bride…very interesting!

Trixi—-I love that “Praying for your enemies.” I know that is an area God wants us in, but it’s so hard! And I’m with you on the complaining. I know I have to watch that as well. Thanks for your comments about the book. :) The photo shoot was super fun and I’m so happy with the cover.

One of my friends mothers, who would have gotten married in the forties–in Brussels—wore a black wedding dress. Also, I’ve seen 2 friends on FB got married in black wedding dress. But it’s certainly not common.
Lindi PetersonLindi P says
Diane–worry!! I think we all struggle with this…I’m glad you are feeling peace about it. I’m sure prayer helps. And I tended to jump to conclusions as well–I think that’s an area where I’m learning to think and process more angels before forming an opinion. Thanks for your comments about the book.
