Good morning, folks. It’s Christmastime here on Cape Cod, and you know what that means! Wychmere Bay’s Local TV News Channel is running its annual “Man on the Street” feature from now until New Year’s. So sit down, grab a Christmas cookie and find out if your neighbors have been naughty or nice!
LOCAL NEWS: I’m here today with Chloe Richardson, a lifelong resident of Wychmere Bay and the pianist many of us have the pleasure of listening to at Wychmere Community Church on Sundays. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today, Chloe.
CHLOE: No trouble at all. The restaurant my brother and I own is closed for renovations over the holidays, so I didn’t have much going on.
LOCAL NEWS: Wow, you own a restaurant? That’s cool!
CHLOE: Yes, Half Shell. It’s a family restaurant, so that part’s cool. But it’s high-end, and I’m a terrible cook!
Chloe laughs.
Thankfully, my brother’s a great chef, and I’m sure he’ll get the hang of managing everything once I head to Boston after Christmas. I’m finally going to complete my student teaching hours and get my teaching degree!
LOCAL NEWS: Good for you! How exciting! Teaching’s hard work.
CHLOE: I love kids, so it’s fun for me.
LOCAL NEWS: I heard a rumor that you live in an apartment above The Candy Shack. Is that true?
CHLOE: Yes, and it’s awesome! I moved in with Irene Perkins, the owner of the store, a couple of years ago. She’s a real sweetheart, and her fudge is so good!!!
LOCAL NEWS: What’s your favorite flavor of fudge?
CHLOE: Irene’s chocolate peanut butter fudge is out of this world, but I’ll try just about anything!
LOCAL NEWS: Even Velveeta fudge?
CHLOE: Totally! It doesn’t taste like Velveeta, anyway. Velveeta’s a secret ingredient that lets you make smooth and delicious chocolate fudge in as little as THREE minutes!
Here’s the recipe if you want to try it at home 😊: https://howtomakeeasyfudge.com/velveeta-fudge/
LOCAL NEWS: Um… thanks. Maybe.
CHLOE: Another secret ingredient Irene sometimes uses is roast beef.
LOCAL NEWS: Roast beef? Yuck. You can’t be serious.
CHLOE: I’m totally serious! Do you want to try some?
LOCAL NEWS: Thanks, but I’m going to pass.
Chloe smiles and shrugs.
CHLOE: Your loss.
LOCAL NEWS: Tell us about your plans for Christmas.
CHLOE: Oh, um, I don’t really have big plans. My brother and I will probably get together and exchange gifts, but we’ve kept things pretty low-key since our parents passed away. My friend Laura is hosting a Christmas Eve potluck at The Sea Glass Inn—it’s that fantastic old inn right on the beach at Sand Street—so that’s the big celebration. Lots of people from our church are going, so that’ll be fun.
LOCAL NEWS: And will you be celebrating with a “special someone” this year?
CHLOE: No. I was seeing someone earlier this year, but he…
Chloe waves her hand.
It didn’t work out.
LOCAL NEWS: Well, maybe Santa will bring you someone special in your stocking.
Chloe laughs.
CHLOE: All I want for Christmas is to get my teaching degree, so Santa better not bring me any distractions!
LOCAL NEWS: There you have it, folks! Our friend Chloe will be leaving town in the New Year, so send her your best wishes before she takes off.

A second chance at love… with a newborn as matchmaker!
Nothing will be merry about Steve Weston’s Christmas if he doesn’t find a nanny for his newborn nephew fast. But the best choice is Chloe Richardson, the woman he pushed away years ago. He has a second chance at making the season’s joy last for a lifetime—unless he allows old wounds to separate them once more…

Have you ever made your own fudge? Would you try Velveeta fudge? What about roast beef fudge?
Ausjenny says
I have to google what Velveeta was and see its a cheese a bit more googling to see if we have it here or something similar and we do. The similar cheese I love but can’t see it in a fudge but then as mentioned you don’t taste it in the fudge so it is probably good. (I need to not know its in there)
I have made fudge a couple times but not very good at it. I tend to not have it solid enough. Its not something we make as much for Christmas etc (although its getting more popular). There is a place in Sydney at harbourside that has fresh fudge and I loved it. Then in Canada I found the maple syrup fudge which is also yummy. Mostly here if people make it its the squares where as these places have the slices which are harder on the outside and softer inside. (now i really want some).

I love an interview post, they’re always such fun! This looks a great story.
I have made fudge – my husband loves fudge, and last year I though homemade fudge would be a nice thing for the kids and into make him as a Christmas gift. The 6 year old got bored after a few minutes and went to play Minecraft, the 3 year old had a screaming fit because I wouldn’t let her touch when it was hot, and the baby didnot make working with boiling fudge and easier 😂 But it turned out ok and he did eat it. I have never tried Velveeta or roast beef fudge though – maybe some ideas for next time!

I grew up in Canada, Jenny, and I loved alllllllll things maple!!! It’s so good!

I bet when the kids get older, they’ll be more excited about baking and making fudge! My 11 y/o is always asking if he can bake/cook things!
Meghann Whistler says
It doesn’t sound like it’s too hard, which is good because I’m not the best cook!
Meghann Whistler says
Thank you, Trudy! So happy to have you on my review team! ❤️

I have tried making fudge because my husband loves fudge, but I gave up on it because it does not turn out, its o.k., but he says it isn’t like his moms, so it will never come out like my MIL, so both my daughter and I have given up on it, who knows maybe one day I’ll try making it again. Your book sounds like a very good read and I love the cover it is so sweet!
Kendra Muonio says
I have made fudge but it was years ago and haven’t made it for a long time .I don’t think I would want to try velveeta or roast beef fudge.
I really enjoyed reading your book it was really good.

I haven’t tried fudge…unless it’s similar to some of the chewy milk gums we have in Chile. The cheese thing sounds good I love the Cheescacke so no problem. The meat thing… eh I don’t like sweet and sour lol.
Debra Pruss says
Yes, I helped make chocolate and peanut butter fudge. I will have to say no thank you to the roast beef and Velvetta fudge. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
Meghann Whistler says
Uh-oh! You don’t want to be competing with your MIL, that’s for sure! That’s a losing battle!
Meghann Whistler says
Thanks so much, Kendra! I appreciated having you on the review team!
I wouldn’t mind trying Velveeta, but I don’t really want to try the roast beef fudge, either, LOL!
Meghann Whistler says
Ooh, now I want to try your chewy milk gums!
Meghann Whistler says
Peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite flavor combination!!!
bn100 says
odd combos
Meghann Whistler says
LOL — yes! They are very odd!

Making fudge for Christmas has been a family tradition since before I was born! Our recipe uses chocolate chips and mini marshmallows :-) I learned one year not to eat too many of the chocolate chips beforehand or the fudge won’t set properly :-) We give small boxes of fudge to the pastor, the mailman, neighbors, family members, friends, etc.
Meghann Whistler says
I love that, Margaret! What a great gift! ❤️
