Being thankful is something I think is important all the time, not just one day or month a year.
When I was in college I read an article about thankfulness and a statistic that said thankful people lived longer and were happier. That semester I wrote out a list of things I was thankful for. As a college junior, that included everything from good friends to pretty notebooks and paper clips. I taped that list on the wall outside my dorm room. Several other girls on my sorority hall decided to join me and posted their own lists near mine. Soon the hallway was decorated with these thankful lists and I was blessed every time I came back to my room and read something to be thankful for.
Now during the month of November, my kids and I make a “Thankful Tree”. We’re not very organized with it, but we post it on the wall and let the kids write what they are thankful for throughout the month. Usually, all our friends’ names wind up on the wall along with “candy” “books” and “Jesus”. It’s so fun to see what they write.
As a writer, I have a number of things to be thankful for. So here’s my “Writer Thankful List” (in no particular order):
God’s gift of the desire to write
My laptop
My writer friends
Google Docs
Editors
Coffee shops
Notebooks
The internet
Inspiration from God
The way my own characters challenge me (like Paige in Walk with Me, Izzy in Stay with Me, and Makayla in His Daughter’s Teacher)
My steering wheel desk
Erasable Pens
Books on the craft of writing
Encouraging Reader Reviews
Books, books, and books (like this one I’m currently reading)
Prayer through the process
Outlines
READERS!
I’m so thankful that God called me to be a writer, and for everyone who shares in that with me as a reader of these stories.
What’s on your thankful list ??
I am very thankful for my health, in these trying times, and the health of loved ones.
I’m thankful that I’m so blessed by God and His love and mercy.
I’m so thankful for my husband and daughter’s of course. But I’m also thankful that our girls are happy.
I could write forever with all the things I am thankful for! My Savior’s sacrifice for me is first, of course. I know my Momma and many other special people are waiting for me in glory & still having the blessing of Daddy with me. I think one thing is having always lived so close to and having a close relationship with my family for such a large portion of my life is a huge blessing that I was always grateful for. Now that I have lost most of my family (to death or fractured communication) I treasure those years more than ever. The only other thing I have to mention is the way God knew how much I needed to replace the family and friends after becoming largely homebound. He has opened up life to me through the world of books giving me an amazing new group of friends including a couple of very close author friends. I will always hold out hope of being able to attend church again in person allowing the fellowship I miss so much but I can honestly say I do not lack for the friendship, prayer partners and genuine Biblical support the way I did when I was first stuck with immobility! Sorry, I lied, I have to add one more thing. I was so blessed not to have to be affected by the solitude most went through when Covid started. I had to adjust to that in 2014 when I first broke my hip & when I got home from the nursing home the next year I was no longer able to go outside the house for more than doctor’s appointments and shopping I couldn’t find anyone to do for me. So I was truly blessed to have that down to an art by 2020.
So, so thankful for health, life, and breath four years after nearly dying. I’m so thankful for my precious husband, our daughter and son and their spouses, our four granddaughters and newborn grandson, for a warm home and plenty to eat, for peace and tranquility, for the astounding beauty of the natural world around us. I’m very thankful for a solid church and a pastor who challenges me constantly to go deeper. And most of all, for the amazing and precious gift of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. My heart is full.
Wow, so many things I’m thankful for! First would have to be my Savior, Jesus Christ, then would come all of the different versions of His Word that I have the freedom to buy and read, that we can still freely meet to worship any time and any place we’d like to, my friends and family, books and authors!!!!!!!!!!! Authors are important, as without y’all, I wouldn’t have the books I love to read!!!!!!!!!
Family, a Godly husband, my grand-girl, good health, a wonderful church family, freedom to worship God & a Bible to read His word….what’s not to be thankful for? So many things if we really think about it :-)
I am Thankful for my health and the good health and safety of All my loved ones. I am very Thankful that God put me on this earth and that He has a plan for me. Have a great day and stay safe. Go Bless you and your family.
Hi, Hannah! Like so many others here have already said, I am deeply grateful for the undying patience and relentless love of God. I am also thankful for His many provisions. Even though neither of us are able to work, we have food shelter and clothing aplenty.
I am thankful for the gift of prayer and the word of God, though I am shamefully lax in pursuing either for all they are worth. I am also grateful to be married to my best friend and to be bound with her in the cord of three strands.
I’m thankful for a husband that loves me and supports me through the grieving of losing my parents.
Often during the month of November I do one social media post a day of something I’m thankful for. It usually generates a lot of conversation, and it inspires other people to do the same on their own social media. The more thankfulness the better!
I am thankful for my family and friends during this covid pandemic .I am thankful for my friends cause my grandmother died the beginning of covid and her grandchildren couldn’t even go to the funeral only her husband her children and there spouses so it was really hard not being at her funeral cause I would go down to her house every day and build puzzles with her and just help out.I am also thankful for my health and that I didn’t ever get covid now I have the vaccine .
We are doing a thankful tree at Church with a Christmas tree and bauble shaped card that we can write we are grateful for ….
They are doing it at the Friendship centre which is mainly people from the community and an outreach craft and chat group. (Most have similar comments) but are doing it with the church also.
I am thankful for my cats and that they have an owner who loves them (I say this as I have a stray coming who has owners who don’t care for it at all). I am also thankful for the warmer days.
Thank you for such an encouraging blog. I am thankful for the Lord’s amazing love, grace and forgiveness of my sins. I am grateful for a wonderful husband who is my caregiver. I am thankful that both of my parents are still here on earth. I am thankful for a roof over my head and food on the table. I am thankful for all the friends I have made on Facebook since I am mostly home bound. I am thankful that I have found Christian authors, websites as well as Proverbs 31 ministries that I have been able to have online Bible studies. God bless you.
We already had our Thanksgiving in October but I’m thankful for my family.
Our’s was in October. I’m always thankful for my wife & daughter. My games & books & things that keep my family happy & busy as well as safe
Rain! We’ve been in drought for so long…
I’m thankful for authors who write Christian and/or Clean/Sweet romance fiction.
This year I realized what a privilege it is for someone to choose to accept your invitation to Thanksgiving dinner. My husband and I host monthly potlucks for our college & post-grad community. Thanksgiving is unique from other holidays since the “main event” is dinner that day versus Christmas gatherings happening throughout the month, on Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day. We were blessed to have a good number of friends join my family to celebrate Thanksgiving together. 😊
