June is the official (maybe unofficial) wedding season. You’ve got great weather in the western hemisphere that makes for the perfect time to tie the know and say I do. It’s also the perfect time to release an anthology collection about weddings.
I wrote a novella called Finally a Sweetheart that follows a woman who is always the wedding cake baker. Felicity Edwards wants a husband to call her own, but there’s just one problem she’s not sure a man can handle.
When she meets Will Davenport at a cake appointment, she thinks she has another chance to find the right one. But how can she reveal her secret?
What I liked about writing this novella was exploring what makes her person feel valuable. Felicity and Will both dealt with feeling less than because of societal standards on what makes a person successful or “worthy.”
Have you ever battled feelings of inferiority? How did you get through? How did God show you just how much He values you?
That’s what Will and Felicity have to discover along their journey in Finally a Sweetheart.

Red velvet cake ❤️
In Australia most people have boiled fruit cake (like you have at Christmas) decorated with royal icing (or fondant) and decorations. I know a friend had a small chocolate cake as well cos she doesn’t like fruit cake, I love the icing/frosting but don’t like fruit cake.
A friend who got married 2 years ago didn’t want a cake so had desert pizza’s instead. I had the salted caramel popcorn and chocolate pizza. Not a huge fan of desert pizza.
If I got married and had to choose a cake (not fruit cake) I would love a Black Forrest cake.
I have dealt with feeling inferior most of my life. I had a brother who was good at sport and academically and in the it crowd. I was hopeless at sport, I did try, average at school and not in the popular group. hes over 4 years older. Mum also was so good at so many things and at church it was your brother is so good at ,,,,, you should be able to do it. or Your mother is so good at …. you should be able to do it. I wasn’t as good and I felt I was always being compared and never able to be just me. It lead to a low self esteem and the feeling of always being judged. If I wasn’t as good I felt people were making fun of me. I still struggle to do anything where I am center of attention. I am now more my own person but still have those doubts.
Chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
We had a traditional yellow cake with white icing, but we also had groom’s cakes that were spice cake with butter cream icing. Yummy!
Even those of us with skills can suffer low self esteem. I may be good but was I good enough? Will my skills be enough to let me be part of the it crowd? Turns out the it crowd is threatened by people who outshine them. They are also not interested in helping others so much as getting something for nothing.
So, what to do? In my experience, find what you enjoy and are comfortable doing and give to others with your efforts. Their appreciation goes far deeper than the social acceptance of the cliques and elites. It feels a lot more like “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” :-)
I have and sometimes continue to fight feeling inferior. It’s a journey I’m sure I’ll be on for life. However I’m able to recognize it now and deal with it appropriately. Thank you
I like white cake and the frosting has to have almond flavoring.
I’m going to an outdoor wedding tomorrow. I hope they have red velvet or lemon. Blessings and congratulations. I would love to read.
If I ever get married, I’d like either a yellow cake or white cake with buttercream icing. If it’s a white cake, I’d want strawberries between the layers. It would depend on which the groom would agree to. Or, like Lincoln, there could be a grooms cake, which all three of my sisters had their weddings, if I remember correctly. I used to be compared to all three of my older sisters, and had an inferiority complex at times. Then I found things I could do that they couldn’t, and that helped. It also helped that I could talk to my Mom about anything and everything, and we talked about that, and she helped me. Now, when I feel that way, I pray about it, and know that I’m not inferior.
I have to read these, they look awesome! My favorite is chocolate, always, and for our wedding we had my hubs favorite cake…Baskin Robbins log roll, chocolate cake with mint chip ice cream inside!
Yum!
Is it bad that I can’t remember what flavor our cake was? I know it was delicious and beautiful, but that’s all I’m confident about. I’m pretty sure we had a different flavor for each layer (3 of them) as well as a groom’s cake. I think one layer was strawberry. My close friend’s mom made it for us as our wedding gift and I loved it! Even looking back at it now I think it’s so pretty. It looked a lot like the one you pictured, but the band of color at the bottom of each layer was a light lilac piece of ribbon and the flowers on top were really flowers.
I think we all struggle with insecurity for one reason or another. Praying for you!
Red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream would be my choice
Yummy!
The groom cake sounds delicious!
I know what you mean. Praying for you!
Oh that sounds good!
Enjoy the wedding!!
Strawberries between the layers sounds amazing!
I’m so glad you know you’re not inferior!
Wow! That Baskin robbins cake sounds amazing!
Oh that sounds amazing! And I love the idea of different flavors for each layer.
Red velvet is amazing.
White cake with raspberry filling!
I think we had vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing and strawberry filling. I do remember eating the cake top on our one year anniversary.
Hm…I don’t recall the flavor of my cake lol it’s a Russian cake so there’s no such thing as one flavor ;)
I love fruit fillings in cake!
I like vanilla. If I ever get married, I think I’d do a lemon and blueberry cake or a raspberry and chocolate cheesecake as I’m not very traditional person.
Awesome. I always wonder if people eat it on one year anniversary.
Nice!
I think lemon and blueberry is delicious and I’m so down for a cheesecake.
My favorite cake is Pineapple cake with pineapple bits in the frosting and pineapple filling in between the layers. Thank you for the chance, Have a Great weekend and stay safe. I have been hearing a lot of very good things about this book, I love the book cover it is beautiful.
I love a good chocolate cake with frosting and beautiful decorations. Thank you so much much the chance to win, this collection sounds really good.
Our wedding cake was vanilla with white frosting. We have been married for 32 years. I am not sure what kind of flowers were on the cake. We found a bride and groom figurines that sat on the top layer. Thank you for bringing up a wonderful memory. God bless you.
Red Velvet Cake!
I am doing much better now. I still don’t like being up front. Last time I tried doing a bible reading I couldn’t see the words but I had practiced so much that I knew it by heart. I am much better behind the scenes like doing the church newsletter etc.
Oops! My wife corrected my memory. It was the wedding cake itself that was spice cake and buttercream icing. The groom’s cakes were chocolate. There. Now we have all the important food groups represented!
Carrot Cake
I love spice cake or a butter cake flavoured with strawberry gum or lemon myrtle and lemon verbena. Of course it all pales before a chocolate mousse cake.
I think we all at different times feel insercurity & just need something. I like Chocolate ice cream cake
I love Vanilla Ice cream cake especially from DQ
Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

I love a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and buttercream icing. That’s why my wedding cake was.

I’m a behind the scenes type of person as well. It’s where I feel most comfortable.
I adore the cover as well! And pineapple cake sounds delicious. Blessings!
