Prior to my last post, Iād never written a character interview. I had so much fun writing Chloeās interview, though, that I decided to do a matching interview for her hero, Steve. Enjoy!

LOCAL NEWS:Ā Ho, ho, ho and happy holidays, folks! Christmas is just around the corner here on Cape Cod, and you know what that means! Itās time for another āMan on the Streetā feature!
Weāre here today with our new neighbor Steve Weston, whoās just moved to Wychmere Bay from Providence, Rhode Island, to take over the physical therapy clinic on Main Street.
Tell us about yourself, Steve. A little birdie told me youāre not completely new to Cape Cod.
Steve pats the baby on his shoulder and gives a good-natured smile.
STEVE: That little birdie wouldnāt happen to be my great-aunt Mabel, would it?
LOCAL NEWS: You know that journalists never reveal their sources. šš
STEVE: I spent some time here one summer when I was a teenager. My grandfather lived here, and I stayed with him.
LOCAL NEWS: That must have been fun.
STEVE: I went to camp at Wychmere Community Church and met a bunch of nice people. It was great.
LOCAL NEWS: What was your grandfatherās name? Maybe I knew him.
STEVE: He didnāt get out much. He was kind of a hermit.
LOCAL NEWS: Okay, well, whoās this precious young fellow youāre holding?
Steve turns to the side, showing off the baby sleeping on his shoulder.
STEVE:Ā This is my nephew, Aiden.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā Adorable! How old is he?
STEVE:Ā Heās not quite two weeks old.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā So sweet. I bet his parents appreciate you stepping in to babysit.
Steve looks down.
STEVE:Ā Ah, wellā¦ my sister actually passed away giving birth, so Iām his primary caretaker.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā Oh, no! Iām so sorry. Has anyone set up a Meal Train for you yet?
STEVE:Ā Thatās not necessary.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā Iām sure there are plenty of people whoād like to pitch in, myself included.
STEVE:Ā Itās really not necessary. Weāre doing fine on our own.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā Okay, umā¦ Iām glad to hear youāve got everything under control. Tell us more about your new clinic. I thought it opened last month, but itās been closed the past few days. Are you taking an early Christmas vacation?
STEVE:Ā Uhā¦ no. Iāve been trying to find childcare for this guy, but it hasnāt been as easy as Iād hoped.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā Oh dear. Do you have any family nearby that can help?
STEVE:Ā Aside from Aunt Mabel? No. But sheās set up an interview with a nanny candidate for tomorrow, so hopefully something will fall into place soon and I can get back to work.
LOCAL NEWS:Ā At least your nephew seems like an easy baby.
Steve laughs.
STEVE: Heās easy as can be during the day, but at night? Watch out.
LOCAL NEWS: Yikes. I think Iām going to stop putting my foot in my mouth and end our interview here. If anyone out there knows of a good nanny whoās looking for a job, Steve needs your help!

I hope you enjoyed this short introduction to Steve, the hero of my new book,Ā The Babyās Christmas Blessing.
If you love the nanny trope and want to see what happens when Chloe shows up for the job interview, you can read the first chapter on my website!
A second chance at loveā¦ with a newborn as matchmaker!
Nothing will be merry about Steve Westonās Christmas if he doesnāt find a nanny for his newborn nephewĀ fast.Ā But the best choice is Chloe Richardson, the woman he pushed away years ago. He has a second chance at making the seasonās joy last for a lifetimeāunless he allows old wounds to separate them once moreā¦

I love these interview posts, they’re always great fun!
This sounds a great story – poor Steve, I found taking care of a new born enough of a shock with 9 months of pregnancy to get used to the idea, it must be terrifying to suddenly find yourself caregiver. I look forward to finding out how it works out for him.
I’ve never been to a summer camp – it’s not so much of a thing here in the UK, they always seem great fun when I’ve read about them or seen them on TV though.
