Inspy Romance—Fall in Love With a Good Book

Hi!!  I have a treat for you today. But first, I’m going into my accountability section. I did finish a fiction book last month, so on to #2 for the year. Feb’s book is The Scent of Rain by Kristin Billerbeck. I’ve never met Kristin, but she’s had so much influence on my life that, well, that could be a whole other post. (And it might be!)  I didn’t finish my non-fiction book, but I have another on hand for Feb. Bird by Bird by Ann Lamott. My son said I “had to read it.” I’ve heard so many great things about the book for years, so I’m excited to read it.

Now–onto today and my very special guest. Liwen Ho.

I met this very special lady while working on a boxed set, Kisses, Kids and Bundles of Joy. Liwen’s novella in this is called Tropical Kiss or Miss. I loved the story of second chances.

We worked on this project through a FB group over the summer. I didn’t know any of the ladies personally, but found them all to be gracious and friendly. That’s the cool thing about working on projects with people you don’t know. You have the opportunity to make new friends. Great perk, don’t you think?

I asked Liwen a few questions so we can all get to know her better.

Lindi: How did you get started writing.
Liwen: I’ve loved reading and writing since childhood, but I didn’t write consistently until I started a blog five years ago. Blogging was my way of processing the ups and downs of being a mom, and I still enjoy sharing the lessons I learn about parenting, marriage and now, writing. I tried my hand at freelance writing soon after and then decided to write fiction because I wanted to put my own love story into print. Once I began writing romance, I didn’t want to stop!
Lindi: “Once I began writing romance, I didn’t want to stop!”  Oh, how I know the feeling. :)
Lindi: What is the one thing you love the most about writing.
Liwen: As an introvert, writing is my creative outlet. I love being able to put my thoughts onto paper and share bits and pieces of myself that likely would never leave my mouth (and heart) otherwise. I also love making a difference in people’s lives, even if it’s just by giving them a reason to smile.
Lindi:  And you do make people smile. :)
Lindi: Do you have a theme, or take away that you find runs through your books.
Liwen: I do enjoy writing about taking chances and second chances. I’m a square kind of gal and prefer sticking to routine and rules, which is why I feel safer exploring the unexpected in a fictional world. As a former therapist, I believe in the possibility of growth and change and like to incorporate those themes in my books.
Lindi: Very cool themes to read about. They are so relatable.
Lindi: What are one or two of your favorite authors and why.
Liwen: My favorite books to read are sweet and funny, and Susan Hatler and Ines Bautista-Yao stories always hit that warm-fuzzy spot in my heart.
Lindi: Ha!!  Susan Hatler is one of my fav’s as well. I will have to check out Ines, too.
Lindi: What is your favorite book you have written and why.
Liwen: I have to pick a favorite among my kids?! LOL. I think it’d be a toss-up between Drawn To You and The More the Merrier.
Sam and Lucas, the main characters from Drawn To You, are complete opposites and remind me a lot of my hubby and myself. I may or may not have included some of our real-life disagreements in that story. ;)
And Barry and Alyssa from The More The Merrier are best friends who become something more (I love when that happens). I have a fondness for Barry because he’s named after my favorite superhero, Barry Allen from The Flash, and my maternal grandfather who took in my mom after she lost her parents. These two books hold a special place in my heart because they were inspired so much by my life.
As all of you can see, Liwen is an amazing lady with a beautiful heart. A heart for God. :) I was excited to share her and her stories with you today. She has a Valentine’s Day Rom-Com, Puppy Dog Tales.

  3. Thanks for sharing Liwen’s story and creative process. I’ve had a couple of her books in my TBR list for a while but that list grows bigger every day and I don’t seem to able to make it. I think reading about them here might just be the push I needed to bump them up in that list.
