When I have a book nearing completion, I have to take off my writer hat and put on my publisher hat. There’s a long list of publishing tasks to work on and decisions to make to take a book from manuscript all the way to released book. What kinds of things? Such as, the cover art, the interior formatting, the book description for all the sales pages.
Another decision is the publication date. Or the book’s birthday. Sometimes I release a book without a lot of thought about the release date other than, when do I think it’ll be ready? Publishers often choose a Tuesday to release a book. It has something to do with giving your book the greatest chance of making a bestseller list during the first week of release if there are enough sales. On the other hand, if your book releases on the same Tuesday that many other books release, it could have the opposite effect!
Several of my books were intentionally released on a day that was special. My book Crescendo (Murrells Inlet Miracles Book 3) was released on April 1, 2018. That was an exceptionally special day because April 1, 2018 was also my retirement date from my big day job where I worked for 34 years! I felt so lucky to retire from such a rewarding career and enjoy the big plans that I had next: moving to the beach and writing novels full time! Maybe by making my book’s birthday the same day as the start of my new lifestyle, the luck would rub off!
Another special book birthday was my 2020 novella Meet the Moms (Matchmaking Moms of Oceanview Church Book 1). Meet the Moms kicked off a series of five books. Since I knew I wanted to release Book 1 in June, and because my birthday happens to be in June, I decided to let the book and me share a birthday! Meet the Moms released on my birthday, June 7!
As I was preparing to release my twenty first Inspy Romance, Her Secret Desire, I knew I wanted to release it in February. As I was toying around with dates, I realized that February 22 might be a good book birthday. Why? Because this year, Feb 22 is … 2/22/22! And I just sort of liked the ring of it. In addition, my InspyRomance blog is also posting on 2/22/22 – so … today it is!
It’s Her Secret Desire’s book birthday!
Ambition. Regrets. Pushing outside your comfort zone. Making dreams come true in the Big Apple. A modern Cinderella love story that plays out in New York’s theater district.
A shy theater manager with a controlling family dreams of moving into the spotlight but lacks confidence.
Theater manager Monica is tired of being her family’s first choice to help out at a moment’s notice. They assume she has no life of her own, and they’re right. She volunteers to be a Big Sister to a fatherless Hispanic girl, Luisa. She never dreams she’d fall in love with Luisa’s older, brooding, gorgeous brother.
A ruggedly handsome Latino man’s violent past makes him unwilling to accept help from anyone.
Carlos endured the tragic deaths of his father and brother. Now he’ll do anything to protect the rest of his family. At first, he resists his mother’s decision to bring in a young woman to mentor his little sister, Luisa. It’s his job now to take care of his family. Plus, this responsible, accomplished Monica reminds him too much of an ex who prioritized her career over their love life, breaking his heart. He won’t allow that to happen again.
Is Carlos, with his violent past, the key to Monica achieving her greatest dreams?
Monica and Carlos are opposites in every way, but love doesn’t always strike when it makes sense.
Her Secret Desire is available in all ebook formats and also in paperback. If you’re interested in purchasing, click here to choose your format. And please … have a piece of birthday cake today!
To celebrate my latest book’s birthday, I’d like to do a giveaway. One random commenter will be selected to receive an ebook version of all three books in this series:
- His Secret Daughter
- One Big Apple Christmas
- Her Secret Desire

Happy TWOs DAY and Congrats on your Book Release Laurie! This retiree and avid reader always enjoys learning about the WHY of publishing. The back story is often as interesting as the story. Often has me, as a reader, connect with the author. The Big Apple series sounds intriguing. Happy Birthday! Best wishes.
