Today I’m sharing my book recommendation for The Roads We Follow by Nicole Deese. It’s the second book in the Fog Harbor Romance series and an excellent read.
Here’s the Book Description:
As the youngest daughter of a country music legend, Raegan Farrow longs to establish an identity away from the spotlight and publish her small-town romances under a pen name. But after her dream is dashed when she won’t exploit her mother’s fame to further her own career, she hears a rumor from a reliable source regarding a tell-all being written about the Farrow family. Making matters worse, the unknown author has gone to great lengths to remain anonymous until publication.
Raegan chooses to keep the tell-all a secret from her scandal-leery sisters as they embark on a two-week, cross-country road trip at their mother’s request and makes it her mission to expose the identity of the author behind the unsanctioned biography. But all is complicated when she discovers their hired bus driver, Micah Davenport, has a hidden agenda of his own–one involving both of their mothers and an old box of journals. As they rely on each other to find the answers they seek, the surprising revelations they unearth will steer them toward their undeniable connection and may even lead them down the most unexpected of paths.
Narelle’s Thoughts:
I enjoyed reading The Roads We Follow and I read it quickly, within twenty-four hours, because I had to keep turning the page to find out what happens next.
Raegan has two older sisters and their family situation is complicated. Her mother is Luella Farrow, a country music superstar. The lives of Luella’s adult daughters revolve around Luella’s music career and the family record label. Raegan’s oldest sister, Adele, is the competent and bossy sister who makes all the high level family and business decisions. Hattie is the middle sister who’s struggling to cope with a nasty child custody dispute.
Raegan works for the family business and dreams about being a published author using a pseudonym that has no connection with her famous family. The story opens with Raegan meeting Chip, an acquisitions editor from Fog Harbor Books in San Francisco, while he’s in Nashville for a writing conference. Chip is interested in pitching Raegan’s fiction book proposal to the publishing board, but Raegan’s reluctance to use her real name to build her author platform is a road block. Chip gives Raegan a heads up that there’s an industry rumor circulating that someone has written a scandalous and unauthorized biography of Luella Farrow’s life.
Micah’s mother, Lynn, recently passed away. He’s on a mission to learn more about his mother’s life during her time in Luella’s band. Micah applies for the bus driver job for the Farrow family’s cross country road trip from Nashville to Washington. He believes Luella holds the key to finding the answers from his past.
A lovely romance between Raegan and Micah unfolds as they travel in the vintage tour bus to the west coast and uncover family secrets that have massive implications for their families. I loved how the mysteries in the story were revealed and challenged the characters in multiple ways.
I recommend The Roads We Follow to contemporary romance readers who like celebrity road trip stories with complex family dynamics, an intriguing mystery subplot, and a relevant faith element in the story.
Many thanks to Bethany House for the advanced reader copy.

Hi Lilly, thank you, and many blessings to you. It’s been fun chatting with you here and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my book recommendation posts. Interestingly, I wrote this post in January when I read Nicole’s book and had planned to post it closer to the book release date in April. At the time I didn’t realise it would be my final post on the blog. I hope I’ll cross paths with you again the online Christian reading community. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Renate, It has been fun getting to know you as well and I’m glad you’re following my author blog. I’ll continue posting my book recommendations there. Best wishes and thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Lori, I’m glad you enjoyed my post and are following my author blog. I’m planning to be more active on my author blog and consistently post at least once a week. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Ruthie, I’m so glad to hear my posts have introduced you to new authors. Many authors quit blogging when social media took off, but I’ve always believed that online word of mouth recommendations via blogs are helpful and useful for readers. There’s no algorithm that can hide the blog posts (or author newsletters) we want to read, Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Elizabeth, you’re very welcome. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Margaret, The Words We Lost is a fabulous read and I hope you’ll have an opportunity to read The Roads We Follow asap. I’m sad the blog is closing. I’m praying the community of readers and authors here will be able to connect in other places. I love blogging and I’m glad I’ve kept my author blog alive and will continue to have blogging opportunities. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Trudy, yes, you definitely need to read this book! I’m very happy for you to continue stalking me, lol. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Jessica, It’s an excellent read and I hope you’ll have a chance to read it. I love highlighting book quotes in my Kindle and making notes as I read. When I read print books I take photos of sections I’d like to highlight and write notes in my phone. I did have a few highlighted quotes to choose from in Nicole’s book. I’m glad I had the opportunity to blog here for a decade. Those ten years have flown by way too fast. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Dianne, thank you. I’ll look forward to seeing you online in other places. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Bonnie, you’re welcome. I have a very long ‘Books of Interest’ list, too. Part of my plan to minimise my terrible ebook hoarding habit by only buying books that I’m planning to read very soon. I’m so thankful for author newsletters and the opportunity to follow authors I love and hear their bookish news via their newsletters. Blessings to you and thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Alicia, you’re very welcome. I look forward to staying in touch with you and other readers in our Inspy community via social media, my author blog, my newsletter etc. it’s definitely not a goodbye situation from my perspective and I trust that God will open doors for the relationships that have been built here to continue in other places. Blessings to you and thanks for commenting. 😊

Hi Cindi, yes, definitely add Nicole’s book to your reading list! I’m so glad you’ve discovered new authors and books from visiting the blog. There are many things I’ll miss when the blog closes and I’m no longer a part of a blogging community here… but it is what it is. Change is hard, but often necessary (or so I keep telling myself…) Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Natalya, you’re welcome. It is sad… and I’m thankful we have alternative options for keeping in touch. I often wonder how I survived last century when all this technology that I now take for granted didn’t exist. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hi Jenny, LOL – why on earth would I want to get rid of you?!? There will be 166 archived episodes (approximately 70 plus hours) of StoryChats if you want to watch reruns on YouTube on Friday nights! Probably not the same as watching reruns of your fave tv shows. Friday night fish and chips and StoryChats could potentially live on… or you could find something new. Thanks for commenting. 😊
It is 😊
Hi Cherie, I’m glad you enjoyed my post and I hope you’ll have an opportunity to read Nicole’s book. Thanks for commenting. 😊
