I love reading and writing about spirited heroines and brooding, but charming heroes. Maybe that’s why I’m a fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Haven’t read the book in a long while–need to do that again!–but in the past several months, I’ve managed to watch both the BBC version and the later feature film.
Here’s a controversial opinion for you: As much as I adore Colin Firth in just about everything he’s acted in, it’s Matthew McFadyen who captured my heart as Mr. Darcy. Why?
It’s in the eyes. Those longing eyes he directs toward his beloved Elizabeth.
That same expression got me when my husband, Dan, looked at me that way thirty-three years ago! 😍 (p.s. It’s our anniversary today!)
Ahhh!
You knew this question was coming, didn’t you? To enter the giveaway, tell me: Colin Firth or Matthew McFadyen as Mr. Darcy?
Drop a comment below with the answer and feel free to name more of your favorite brooding heroes in books or movies. I love to see these guys come around, don’t you?
I hope there won’t be any battles in the comments over these questions! LOL
The giveaway for the paperback ends tomorrow, Saturday, 10/21, at midnight. I’ll come back over on Sunday and update this post with the winner’s name!
GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED: LILY, you are my winner! I will be reaching out to you soon!

Colin Firth, The adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with him and Keira was the first one I saw and thanks to which I found Jane Austen. Keira’s Lizzie is more like the Lizzie that I imagine in the book, somewhat dry and not very smiling in the other version, somehow Darcy and Lizzie seem too sweet to me…what I like about Keira’s version is how how haughty Colin looks and as you can see she’s not interested and doesn’t want to be interested, In the same way that I liked Emma in her newer version instead of the previous one, the new Emma had more of the high society lady air that I see in the book in the old version she is simply dreamy, romantic and imaginative.
On the other hand, I loved the miniseries of North and South and Jack from “Midnight dance” by Joanna Davidson Politano, I don’t know if he is precisely what you are referring to since he is funny and open but even despite his extroversion the heroine has problems knowing what he thinks.

Colin Firth. I watched it when it was first on when I was a teenager, and he set the bar for every romantic hero on screen ever since! I just think he does Darcy’s awkwardness and discomfort so well in the screen when he is proposing to Lizzie.
Congratulations on your anniversary!
(I’m in the UK so don’t add me to the giveaway)

I’ve never watched the movies, so I have no idea!! Plus, I don’t watch many “modern” movies, but stick to oldies and westerns. The last movie I saw was either War Room or I Can Only Imagine, whichever was out last.

Colin Firth. Thank you for the chance, have a great weekend. Your book sounds like a great read and I love the cover!

Matthew McFadyn was great because of Kiera Knighlty played opposite him and Colin FIrth was just a great Mr. Darcy. Sir Lawrence Olivier in the 1940 version was, and always is, a classic. Another great brooding hero is The Dread Pirate Roberts/ Westley in The Princess Bride (actor Cary Elwes).

I’ve always liked Matthew McFadyn as Mr. Darcy. There’s just something about him and Keira Knightleys chemistry that just really sells it for me.
