Good morning!
I am officially ready for summer and all of the new summer reads. I even have one of my own to add to the collection of summer books releasing this years. An Encore for Estelle, book 2 in my Melodies of Love series is now available, and for a little while longer it is only 99¢.
Here’s a short teaser: A former A-list actress seeks to redeem herself in the most unlikely of places—a children’s theater. The writer/director didn’t anticipate a famous actress would ever show interest in his musical much less him. Will their pasts pull them apart or join them together?
If you haven’t read book one yet, A Love Song for Kayla, I have temporally reduced the price to 99¢.
Finally, I have one more treat. Island Refuge the first book in one of my other series is FREE today and tomorrow. This is one of those stories that hit me when I was in the middle of working on another contracted series. I couldn’t get it out of my head for several months and finally set aside what I was working on to write it. It will always be one of my favorite stories. Here’s the link to download it for free. http://amzn.to/2e79zsB
Whew! That was a lot to tell you about. :) I recently asked this question in my readers group and thought it’d be fun to ask it here. How do you determine the order in which you read your book list? Is it random, or do you have a system?
Jill Weatherholt says
Congratulations on your latest release, Kimberly! Sadly, I have no system to my reading list. If I could ever stop purchasing books, I might be able to get a handle on things…but I don’t see that happening. :)
Wemble says
Hi Kimberly, I am like Jill, no order and lots on the list. I guess it depends on my mood as to what I read- hence the ‘need’ for a good sized reading list!! Congratulations, your new story is another one in my pile:)
Blessings:)
Renate says
Congratulations on your new release, Kimberly! I enjoyed reading Island Refuge. Always enjoy reading a romance with a beach setting and a chef as a major character. I agree with Jill and Wemble lots of books to read, but no realplan. Usually whatever grabs my fancy. I usually read my favorite author’s first, especially if I am on their review team! Another determining factor is how much I paid for the book. Since I prefer to purchase book $3.99 or below, if I spent more on a book, I read the most expensive books first. Best wishes! Difficult to believe it is the end of May and the year is almost half over.
Carlien Peens says
Hi I have a list. I love the inspired suspense series or christian fiction series, so I can’t wait to read the newest as they are released.
Melanie D Snitker says
Congratulations on your new release! My reading list isn’t very organized, but a new book from an author I know always shoots to the top lol
Beth Gillihan says
I don’t have a plan for my reading list. It depends on my mood and the time of year for my next read. Congratulations on your new release!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Lol, Jill. Are the majority of your to be read books print or digital?
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thanks, Wimbledon. I know what you mean about mood. Sometimes I have a book in mind to read next but as I begin to read it, I realize I’m not in the mood for that book and switch to another.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Wemble, I was responding to replies on my phone–I’m sorry for spelling your name wrong. I was trying to be careful, but clearly missed my mistake.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Hi Renate, I’m much the same way in my approach on which books to read. Books I promised to read for an author always come first, then it’s the books I’ve paid for. :)
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I used to subscribe to those, Carlien way back before I was writing. I looked forward to my books arriving in the mail every month. They were pretty much all I read since I had read already read everything I could at my public library. This was pre-ebooks, so there weren’t as many books to choose from. I love the LI and LIS books.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thanks, Melanie! I like your system, we need priorities lol. I have a few authors who shoot to the top of mine too. :) Yours did once for me after one of your posts here.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Sounds like a plan to me, Beth. I think it’s a good idea to base what you read off your mood. Picking up the next book on the list simply because it’s next doesn’t work well, if you aren’t in the mood for it. Thanks for celebrating my new release with me. :)
Merrillee Whren says
Best wishes on your new release.
Jill Weatherholt says
Both! I love them all. :)
Valerie Comer says
Congrats on your new release! It looks like A Love Song for Kayla is a Kindle Unlimited price reduction as it doesn’t show in Canada.
I have an old school Kindle that doesn’t show covers, just “pages” of book titles. Every couple of months or so I go to the last page and open the bottom book… the one that’s been on my Kindle the longest. I determine if I’m EVER going to read it and if not, I archive it then and there. Otherwise I start reading. I’ve found a few surprise nuggets that way!
The truth is I used to be a sucker for a free book, so I’d download them if they sounded vaguely interesting. Now I rarely download a free book unless it really catches my attention! And I’m far more willing to pay for books than I used to be, especially from an author whose books I already enjoy.
Margaret Nelson says
I don’t have a plan either. Like several other commenters above, if a favorite author has a new book out, that comes first. I also like to take turns between fantasy, suspense, romance, and historical – too much of one kind at a time is kind of tiring. And if I’ve read something really intense, I’ll often go back and re-read an old favorite that I know is NOT intense :-)
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thanks, Merrillee.:)
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Valerie, you are correct, A Love Song… is a kindle countdown, but the other one isn’t. It just released this week, so I priced it low this first week.
I LOVE your idea of going to the last book on your device. It’s so easy to forget about books. Especially if you’re like me and buy a bunch of books at once. I think I purchased five books this past month, maybe more. It’s hard to keep track. Books are my biggest weakness!
Gail Hollingsworth says
I have a rather large TBR pile. I read in order I receive them, especially those I’ve promised to read and review for authors.
I prefer paper books. I like to donate them to my church library when I finish.
I only read those I know I’ll enjoy. I can give four and five stars to those freely. For several years now I review EVERY book I read whether obligated or not. I keep a record of what I’ve read by year on my Pinterest boards.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I like how you rotate genre’s, Margaret. I do that between sweet Christian romance and romantic suspense. I read a completely different kind of book a few weeks ago–When Angles Cry, by Mary Lu Tyndall. It still had romance, and might be considered one, but it was unlike anything I’ve ever read. I highly recommend it if you enjoy end times type books. I’ve read tons of excellent books, but that stands out in my mind because it was so different from my normal kind of read.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
You sound very organized, Gail. A woman in my readers group keeps a log of the books she’s read and a TBR order. She writes reviews too.
Autumn Macarthur says
Your new release sounds lovely, Kimberly!
I don’t have much of a reading plan either. It’s books I HAVE to read first, either to crit, or review, then a scroll though the pretty covers on my Kindle Fire to see what appeals. Bonus points if it’s an author I know and like, they usually stand out more!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thanks, Autumn. I like to scroll through the covers sometimes. I have a kindle paperwhite that I read on, and the covers don’t show well, so now and then I’ll get on my kindle fire and check out covers. Not being able to see the covers in color is my only gripe about the paperwhite device.
Andrea Cox says
Kimberly, congratulations on your new release! It was so fun to see this news twice in my inbox this morning: once from Inspy and another time from Stacy Monson’s newsletter. Hope you have a fantastic summer!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thank you, Andrea. Stacy is such a sweetie. When that arrived in my inbox I was surprised and thrilled.
katji says
I am new here and t is so fun to read these comments and “meet” all of you. I visit Avid Christian Readers, on Facebook also. I am a 61 year old Pastor’s wife who has slowly become disabled over the past 7 years; I am in a wheelchair now. Plenty of time to read! In answer to your question, the way I choose what to read next…favorite author, am I able to hold up a physical book or do I need to go lightweight, all sorts of ways.
Jackie Smith says
I am an avid reader of Christian fiction. I wish I was more organized as to when to read what! If I am committed to review for the author, I read those books first. I do keep a list of all books I read. I enjoy print or Kindle books.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
It’s smart to keep a list, Jackie. So many times I’m not sure if I’ve read a book or not until I start reading. It kills me when I buy a book I already own.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Welcome! I’m sorry you are wheelchair bound, Katji. Books are such a blessing! I know what you mean about being able to hold a book. I once had to get the ebook copy because the print book hurt to hold. It was too heavy.
Trixi says
Since I review so many books, I order them according to release day or if I have more than one releasing on the same day, I do them in the order I received them in my mail :-) Sometimes I do rearrange because of unexpected things in life come up or a surprise book gets in there. :-)
If it’s books “just for fun” (which is rare), I go by my book mood. Do I want to read historical, contemporary, suspense (or anywhere in-between), or maybe a book I’ve had on my shelf forever that I’ve been wanting to get to for a while. If books are part of a series, of course I read them in order :-)
Congrats on the new release Kimberly!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thanks, Trixi. It sounds like you have a great system.:)
Trixi says
Which is far from perfect sometimes….LOL!! I love to be organized with everything in my life and it throws me off when surprise things come up. Reshuffling that TBR pile is a challenge sometimes ;-)
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
That makes sense. Hopefully it doesn’t happen too often.
Linda Rainey says
I now read the ones that to be reviewed first.
I try not going the free ones that sound interesting because they get lost in the shuffle on Kindle.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
That’s a good plan, Linda.:)
Wemble says
No worries:) I wrote an email to a friend, and auto-correct changed my husband’s name!!
Jessica B. says
I have a list but I don’t usually read it in order and I often end up finding other at the library that I read first.
