Okay, I love Christmas time. I love that Christ came as a baby to save us; I love that whether one finds significance in that or not, a feeling of love and kindness pervades our hearts, thoughts, and actions; I love that we are more “other” focused for this glorious bit of time; I love that my kids are willing to play games, sit by the fire, share stories and time with their parents; and I love everything about the Christmas movies, books, and songs that permeate almost every moment between – and, believe me, I swim around in all of this bounty for a good two months.
We have a rule in our family: Christmas music starts November 1st. I’m a little dictatorial about that one. Movies and books arrive November 15th. And decorations come up first thing on the day after Thanksgiving. Wow… When I write it out, it sounds so rigid – and I suppose it is – but when it’s your favorite holiday, it’s best to put the rules out there so you don’t get any pushback.
Here are a few favorites of mine. And I hope you’ll contribute to the list in the comments.

Bebo Norman Christmas
Third Day Christmas Offerings
Nat King Cole Christmas Song

I was a little like you when my kids were in school. We could watch Christmas movies from the day they got out of school for Thanksgiving until they went back after New Year’s. That way the movies were special every year.

I love Christmas movies! My kids have too much homework these days so I’m storing them up for when break starts in a couple weeks. It really is a glorious time of year!

I’ve always wanted to get my tree up on the day after Thanksgiving. I almost made it this year, but was a couple of days late. That’s the closest I’ve ever come…maybe next year will be the year!

Hi Katherine, I love walking or driving around our neighbourhood and seeing the houses decorated with Christmas lights. I’d also love to experience a white Christmas in the northern hemisphere :)

We always set up the Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the movies and music start the same time :)
