There was a trend going around social media for a while where people would try to convince you to read a book based on one quote. If you think about it, this is quite a task to accomplish. There’s only so much that you can convey about a story with a couple of lines. Not only do you need to catch a person’s immediate attention, you also need to arouse their curiosity to know more. And all this needs to be done without the help of a book cover or a blurb.
I thought this would be a fun challenge to try with our Inspy Romance readers. So, here are five quotes from five of my books that I’d like to share with you.
- Love Pact with the Hero: “Please don’t come over tonight because seeing you again would make me wish the crazy idea of our marriage pact was real.”
- Joined at the Hip: “I liked that I made her laugh. I also hate that I cared.”
- At First Spark: “Darren Spark never imagined that one person could make him feel so happy and sad all at the same time.”
- Romanced by the Hero: “There would be no further fraternizing with the tour guide. No matter how much she enjoyed the sound of his smooth and warm-as-butter-on-pancakes voice.”
- Tropical Kiss and Tell: “Being with you is like watching the sun set. You know what’s going to happen and you don’t expect anything new because you’ve seen it before, but it still surprises you with its beauty.”
Now, please be honest. Was I able to convince you to read a book based on one of the quotes above? If so, which one and why?
I’d also love for you to take a crack at this trend and convince me and the rest of the readers here to read a CCR book based on one quote. Leave it in the comments, along with the title. I look forward to reading them!

Ooh this is tricky! I think of those, I would go for 2. Joined at the Hip – I’d want to know why he hated that he cared. It’s a really hard thing to do though, to give a sense of the book and draw you in in just a few words.
Here’s mine:
“Panic pounded in her ears. She didn’t want Nick to like her. Things were complicated enough as it was”. Autumn McArthur, ‘Believe in Me’

I’m so not the person to ask!! I rarely find a quote in a book that sticks out to me, and one or two sentences just isn’t going to make me read a book. Since I’ve read quite a few of your books, the titles and knowing you wrote them is enough for me to read more! Same way with all of the books I read, to be honest. I have read some debut books that I really liked, and those authors are now must-read, too!

Hi Ruthie! Well, I can tell you that the leading man in Joined at the Hip is a bit of a grump, so he’s not exactly the caring type (at least on the outside lol). Yes, it definitely is hard to draw someone in with just one line!
Ooh, that’s a good one! I like the bit about things being complicated enough already. Nice pick! Thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Trudy! Same here! I think I’m drawn in more by knowing what the characters are like and the trope of the story, which is hard to convey with just one line. Thanks for your input! :)

Hi Kendra! Thanks for reading the hero books! :)

Hi Kathleen! That line from Tropical Kiss and Tell is probably my most favorite one-liner that I’ve ever written. :) Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hi Laurie! It’s hard to resist warm butter on pancakes, right? LOL Thanks for commenting!

I would pick 2.
but like Trudie a quote normally isn’t what will sell a book for me. I am also one who doesn’t tend to take notice of quotes. So if asked for a favourite quote from a book I will have to use one someone else used. It’s like often even after just finishing a book if you give a quiz on hair colour, eye colour, etc I probably won’t know unless its drummed into me like the girl with cremilin blue eyes.

Hi Jenny! Good point! Sometimes it’s not about the little details, but the story as a whole that leaves an impact. Thanks for commenting!

I enjoyed the quotes. I am not sure that I am one to ask right now. My Mom passed away on January 16. I am going through the motions, but having issues in making connections. Thank you for sharing. God bless you.

Oh my, I’m so sorry to hear this, Debbie. Please know I’m holding you in my heart and prayers and sending you hugs.

So sorry to hear this Debra, I will be praying for you and your mom

#1. You had me at “marriage pact!”
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Erin! Ooh, yes, that’s a fun trope, isn’t it?! Thanks for commenting!

I am so sorry for your loss Debra, it takes time and let yourself take as much time as you need. For me I couldn’t stay home I ended up doing lots of walking as I couldn’t settle. Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. A dr said to me one day you will laugh and realise you are going to be ok.
