Dear Dakota,
I know you told me to leave well enough alone. I tried. I really did.
Okay, I didn’t try. Sorry for lying.
I believe everyone needs a second chance, even you. Even your son’s daddy, Travis Cavanagh. Not just for Toby’s sake, although it’s certainly ideal for every four-year-old to live with both his parents. At least, if they love him, love each other, and love Jesus.
I could say I’d like to meddle for Toby’s sake, and that’s partly true. But it’s more than that.
I’ve seen how you and Travis treat each other. The antagonism. The rudeness. The self defense. Is that God’s best for you?
Dakota, don’t you remember all the chances God has given you? Don’t you remember the challenge He gave us to forgive seventy times seven? What would forgiving Travis — giving him another chance — look like?
Yes, I get that you’d be vulnerable. Yes, I know you could be hurt. I even know Toby could be crushed if things don’t work out, and that’s the last thing any of us want.
Even Travis. I know you find it hard to believe, but Travis is still grieving the loss of your relationship just as much as you are. He’s got high walls built, too, but they’re barricades that can be overcome. Probably not by you alone, but with Jesus’ help. I’ll do my best, too.
How about it, Dakota? I can take you on a ride you will never forget, a ride to a happily-ever-after for you, Travis, and Toby.
You’ll doubt me at times during the journey, because things will get ugly before they get better. Somehow, it always happens that way. Sorry ‘bout that.
All you need to do is open your heart, just a little. Give that cowboy of yours another chance, and ask for him to give you one in return. And trust me.
Your loving author,
Valerie Comer

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:13-14 (The Message)
On weekdays, Travis Cavanagh is just a cowboy, but on weekends, he’s daddy and hero to his young son. If only he’d done things differently back then — yanked the chip out of his shoulder, for starters — maybe they’d actually be a family.
Dakota Erickson’s biggest mistake is also her biggest blessing, but seeing Toby’s dad when they trade the boy back and forth every weekend nearly guts her. She’s never stopped loving Travis, but the reasons she walked out on him still stand.
Like it or not, for Toby’s sake, the two must find a way to work together. How will they forgive each other for the past and fight for a second chance at love?

Hi Penelope! The photo the verse is on is one that was purchased for the background of the cover – it’s all across the back cover, as well! My cover designer made some great choices!

I picked up a copy of “Marry Me for Real Cowboy” & I’m very excited that I can borrow the next books from KU!
I love your letter to Dakota, it was so fun to read. Reminds me of a letter God might write to us an the Author of our lives. He says life will get rough, but trust Him. We’ll doubt Him but He knows how our story will end. He always works things out for our good & the good of everyone involved. No matter how things look in the bad times :-)
Happy release day! So exciting when a new book baby is out in the world, for both the reader and writer.
Yes, God could write a similar letter to us, for sure! He already did, but it’s much longer. ;) And it is also far more important.
Hm…can we meet in person? ;)
Probably not this week! ;)
Congratulations on your newest release, Valerie! I’m looking forward to reading it. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it :)
