I’m one of those basic loves-everything-about-fall women. The sights, smells, traditions. It’s all so ahhh-inducing! Living in Texas after spending a decade of gorgeous autumns in North Carolina, the reprieve that the season brings from our sweltering summers is also a huge plus! Being in Texas also means that I’ll spend a good bit of the next several weeks watching with envy as other parts of the country turn colorful and crisp. It’s usually not until November that our trees and temperatures catch up.
So, what’s a girl in wait of the best autumn has to offer to do in the meantime? Read books set in fall, of course! I’ve rounded up some contemporary Christian romance books you can add to your upcoming fall reads pile. They’re sure to satisfy those cozy cravings.
Buying Love by Toni Shiloh (also see Toni’s recent Fall in Maple Run post!)
Aspen Crossroads by Janine Rosche
A Pinch of Promise by Elizabeth Maddrey
Tackling the Fields by Janet Ferguson
A Family to Call Ours by Merrillee Wren
An Unexpected Legacy by Amy Anguish
Plum Upside Down, Team Bride (+ many others!) by Valerie Comer
Autumn Skies by Denise Hunter
A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham
I can’t forget to mention my own novel, Suddenly Forever, set in autumn in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. You’ll find cabins, s’mores in front of the fire, crisp air and changing leaves around a mountain lake, fall festivals, and more. It’s got ALL the fall vibes and a lot of romance!
There are so many other books to mention, but I hope you find a few from this list you’ll FALL FOR—wink, wink. I’m also anticipating Autumn by the Sea by Melissa Tagg – available September 28! She’s got several other great fall books, too.
GIVEAWAY!
I’m giving away an ebook of my novel, Suddenly Forever, set in autumn in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. To enter, comment below telling me one of your favorite books set in the fall or something about the season you love. I’ll choose a winner at random on Monday, 9/27.
Toni Shiloh’s Buying Love was such a sweet book! I love fall because of the warm colors, cozy home decor, and I tend to eat more comforting food because it’s chillier outside.
I love cooler weather and color leaves in the fall.
Does saying my favourite thing is its still over 5 months away? I am one who much prefers spring (which is is Down under) as fall makes me feel sad to a degree. I enjoy the warmer days and more light.
But for Autumn I do enjoy the changing colours. When I was in Vancouver in Autumn I loved watching the trees change colour. Where I am we do have hot summers but we don’t get the humidity like many parts of America.
Pumpkin spice coffees and all things pumpkin spice become widely available!
I looooove the crunch of autumn leaves. Ever since I discovered it’s sooooo much fun to jump on crunchy, crackly autumn leaves and no amount of admonishment growing up dissuaded me from it. Decades later the jump may have turned into a step and I am still looking forward to it when autumn arrives here. Enjoy your autumn reads until your belated autumn crispness arrives. :D
I love the smell of the crisp fresh air. Thank you kindly.
Florida doesn’t participate in fall, which is why I loved going to NW GA to visit extended family then! I could see the fall colors, enjoy the cold, and eat well, too! My aunt and uncle used to own an apple orchard, so going up also meant all things apple! I like reading books with fall in them, and some of the ones I like are the Deep Haven books by Susan May Warren.
I love the smell of the dry leaves when I take a walk.
I just LOVE Toni’s book, too! And YES to all the fall loveliness you mentioned. Thanks!
Me, too! Thanks, Kim!
That’s understandable! I do love Spring, too.
That’s a popular fall thing, for sure! The pumpkin spice stuff is hit and miss for me, but I do love cooking with warm spices and apples and all that.
Yes, yes, yes to crunchy leaves! We have a tree here in our Texas yard that always drops leaves super early, so I’ve been crunching through them already. :)
Yes, it’s so lovely!
What a fun thing to have an apple orchard in the family! I grew up in Central Florida, so I know what you mean about skipping the season. I think going to college in the mountains of NC after growing up in FL is what made me fall deeply in love with autumn!
Walks in the fall really are the best!
I love the way the sunlight shines through the trees that alight with color in the Fall. The reds, oranges and greens all come dancing to life in the Fall.
I like the cooler temperatures and the fall colors of the leaves. This is my favorite color palette for clothes.
I don’t have a particular fondness for Fall. I live on the Oregon coast and we don’t get enough warm weather (or sunny days). It seems we get just a few nice warmer days in late September & then all of a sudden the temps drop and it begins to rain. Also, we have more pine trees than anything so the only ones that drop their leaves are the birch trees & they don’t change colors much.
I grew up in Illinois so Fall always meant vibrantly colored leaves on the maple or oak trees and the relief of cooler temps from scorching hot Summer days. I kind of miss having four seasons because each one has its own beauty!
Yes! The colors are just great.
I totally agree!
I can see how Oregon would make fall less exciting. But I have visited there in the summer and it’s gorgeous!
I love making homemade apple cider and getting together with my extended family.we haven’t really been able to get together much because of the pandemic.last year we couldn’t even get together for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Autumn Skies by Denise Hunter was pretty good. I also really love anything by Melissa Tagg, she has quite a few books that take place in Autumn. Her books are always wonderful.
I enjoyed The Halloween Mismatch: Hayrides and Honeymoons by Amberlee Day. It’s part of the Harvest Ranch series which are set in the fall.
Fall is my favorite season. I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to fall. So many beautiful pictures! It is also my favorite time to go camping. Cool crisp air, sitting by the campfire, making s’mores.
Lol, I remember that about TX! Though once that cool weather (finally) hits, it’s simply heavenly :) (yay for sweater weather!).
A favorite fall read would be “A Spoonful of Spice” by Liwen Ho.
I’m totally drawing a blank on Fall books right now so I’ll go with my favorite Fall thing. It’s definitely the air. The feeling it has. It’s hard to explain but I just love it.
I really enjoyed reading Autumn Skies by Denise Hunter. I look forward to the cooler weather, since it gets so hot in the summer.
Love the fall colors and the cooler temps!
Love the changing leaves and wearing sweaters.
Looking forward to many of these reads! I love to sit and read on the porch or park especially in the Fall! Looking forward to all the Pumpkins & Pumpkin flavored items, cool weather, leaves changing, family gathering and more! Love the colors represented in Fall and Change that comes this time of year! Thanks for sharing blog, reading and giveaway!
Oh, I hope you get to gather soon!
I agree they’re great! And I have enjoyed many of Denise’s too.
Oh, I haven’t read those! Thanks!
Yes, yes, yes! All those things sound great!
You are so right! Ha!
I know exactly what you mean. Cleaner, crisper, more refreshing.
Absolutely! Same here.
Me, too!
Sweater weather is the best weather!
I agree with all of this! Thanks for reading.
Living in the northeast is wonderful in the fall. The leaf peeping is amazing. The colors of the leaves in the trees is picturesque. The weather is cool and refreshing. And we celebrate two great holidays Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I love so many books set in fall! The Maple Run series by Toni Shiloh is great, for sure!
I love all things fall–the colors of leaves, college football, apples, crisp air, boots and sweaters, and so much more.
I just started a cozy mystery by Kimberley O’Malley, Murder By The Numbers. At one point in the book, Addie and her new boyfriend go for a walk in an apple orchard. She does a wonderful job describing the landscape. There are other author’s but my mind is blank. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
I love the book called “The Anderson Brothers” 3 in 1 book set. I love the colours of the leaves & bonfires.
I enjoy nature trails with the fresh fall air & fireplaces inside when it’s a cool night.
I agree! My favorite fall trip was Boston/Salem in October. So picturesque and cozy and fun!
A favorite!
We’re two peas in a pod!!!
Oh, that sounds good! Love a good apple orchard!
Bonfires are the greatest. Thanks for chiming in. :)
We don’t get too many fireplace nights here in Texas, but when we do it’s magical!
I love food! Lattes, soups, pies…mmmm
Fall and Spring are my favorites for cool temperatures, bright sunshine and Fall for the turning leaves. I grew up out in the country of upstate New York so rolling hills with changing leaves were a regular autumn thing. I have one very special memory from my senior year in high school when I went to visit friends in New Hampshire in the fall. We went on a walk down a country lane overarched by trees festooned with rich reds, oranges and yellows down to a local lake. It was magical.
A favorite cool weather treat from my growing up was hot applesauce on toast. Toast made extra crispy (my dad used to make it by batches in the oven). Applesauce warmed in a sauce pan on the stove. Pour applesauce on the toast. Pour over evaporated milk (if you were well-to-do it would have been cream but Dad grew up during the Depression). Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Yum!
The seasonal settings of stories don’t always register that strongly with me so I don’t have a title to share.
Happy Autumn!
I love everything about fall too, Teresa. It’s my favorite season. I’m in Arkansas. The seasons are a lot like TX, except I think AR is more humid. In the fall , there aren’t snakes or bugs. And I hate being hot.
All those fall foods = comfort!!
I love the memory and that recipe! Thanks for sharing!
Amen to fewer creepy crawlers!!!
