I love cozying up with a great book. But, in order to really fall in, I have to be totally comfortable. Like, legs dangling over the side of a recliner, head propped in exactly the right way kind of comfortable.
I look at these pictures of “my dream house reading nook” that come across social media and think about how uncomfortable that window seat would be, because there’d be no place for my head to comfortably rest. And I would constantly shift and move trying to find a way I could be comfortable.
I’d end up on the floor with that pillow behind my head and neck and my feet propped up on that little footstool.
Lounge chairs are nice, if I have good sunglasses and a place to prop my arms. Then I’m in the perfect place — warm sunshine AND a great book.
But ultimately, I love reading in my bed. My lamp provides perfect lighting. I know exactly what pillows to stack how, and when I have to shift, what to move with me. I can read until I fall asleep or finish the book — whichever comes first!

Hi Hallee! Fun blog! Since I read mainly eBooks, I also prefer reading in bed. Works best with my iPad. For reading outside I have a paper white, but have too many books in my account and have to make adjustments because of its limited storage capacity. With school not in session and parents working from home, grandkids bike over so I spend outdoor time with them. Take care.

I’m like you curled up in bed when it’s cooller or on the couch with my legs up in front of the fan when it’s hot! The position has to be comfortable for when it’s a great book and I want to finish reading it, lol!

I used to love reading in my bed, but now it’s not comfortable for my back. I usually just curl up with a blanket on the couch.

My couch is broken and hurts my back now, so I usually read in bed. I still don’t have the right number of pillows to lean my head back, but I can always lay down if I need to. I have found myself reading more at my in-law’s house after Sunday dinner and family games. I’ll put out my Kindle app (or sometimes bring along my paperback) and curl up on their couch. They don’t have many cushions, so it’s not the most comfortable thing, either, but it’ll work enough for me to get lost in a story. :)
I wrote a quick blog post some time ago about some dream nooks of mine. I have always dreamed of a window seat, but you’re right, That picture you have looks terribly hard and uncomfortable. The one I found looks a little more cushioned. ;) https://www.liladiller.com/blog/book-nooks.

I have a great spot in my writing office with a sheep fleece I Felted from one of my Gotlands. Either that or else a Zero Gravity chair outside close to the barn. Although last time I had a book out there one of the baby goats ate a page out!

I like to read on my couch by my bow window. I can sit up or lay down with my head resting on a few pillows.

Fiction? I read fiction on my Kindle for the last hour or so of the day when I’m curled up in bed. So comfy! Occasionally if I’m not feeling well (not up to working) I might bring the Kindle down to my recliner. It’s almost as comfy, but it’s my “work chair” so it’s hard to get out of work mindset in it. I also read a lot of fiction when we’re camping – that might be in a hammock, in a camp chair, or on the bed in the trailer.
Nonfiction is on my iPad, and I’ll often choose audio if it’s available so it can keep me company when I’m doing house or yardwork. Otherwise I tend to put it off. I need to start carving out time from my day for it like I do fiction!
I no longer have good enough vision to read paper for pleasure. I can get through a bit if I need to, but it’s not “entertaining.”

I prefer reading nooks in “out of the way” places. I escape to a cushy sofa at the end of our house when it’s damp or cold outside. Outside, both sides of our house has deck chairs with large trees for shade & comfy chairs. When on vacation, I prefer to read outside on a shady deck; hopefully on a comfy chair. Before renting Vaca units, I always check to make sure there is an acceptable spot somewhere outside & inside that I will be able to read. Bed is my last choice. ;D Outside is my first.

It would be hard to read on a screen outside!

You definitely have to be relaxed to be entertained.
I love listening to my Bible when I’m moving or doing.

That’s cool that you check out reading spots before renting!

I like sitting in my rocker with my feet up to read. I’ll read either paperbacks or on my kindle there. When I use my kindle, I use my pillow holder for it that one of my sisters bought me. I used to read laying on the couch sometimes, but haven’t done that in years. When we had the old rockers to use outside with the webbing for the seat and back, I used to read outside in the shade.

My best spot is my recliner, but not sideways any more (old body won’t take it!!) And a cup or glass of tea. Thanks for the chance.

My main spot to read is in my ergonomic chair, sitting at my computer. Plenty of room for drinks and snacks. My alternate would be a recliner, if I had a place to put one. But, alas, tiny townhouse, big kindle library is my fate. :)

I agree about the window seat. (maybe if it had a chaste lounge under it where at least one end has a nice head board. (I have one that came with the house Its not bad to sit on but Libby does love lying there. )
I have a recliner and if I am reading in winter on the computer or kindle its comfortable with the fire going. In Summer I don’t mind the cane chair on the porch only issue now is I need reading glasses and can’t handle the glare. Mostly I liked reading in bed too.
