If you are in the United States or Canada, Happy Labor Day! If you’re somewhere else, Happy Monday!
A few months ago, I joined the bandwagon of authors putting their audiobooks up on YouTube. I’ll be honest; I didn’t have big expectations that my shiny new channel would make many waves, but the feedback has been so awesome. It turns out that lots of people enjoy hearing hope-filled stories for free!
I am an audiobook listener myself. I’ve been an insomniac since I was a little kid, and listening to audiobooks as I fall asleep has been a game changer. I also like to put them on when I’m doing chores or puttering around the house; though my mind does drift sometimes when I’m doing this, I can always rewind. I know some people like to listen to audiobooks in the car too, but I don’t like to when I’m driving because of the aforementioned falling asleep thing.
And of course, it all depends on the audiobook. Some slow moving stories are perfect for winding down, but once I listened to a Ted Dekker audiobook and didn’t sleep for days.
So I slowly started uploading some audiobooks to my channel. They were auto-narrated, which I know isn’t ideal, but I told my readers that these videos were just place holders until I can get the books narrated by real voices.
Yesterday, I uploaded my first human-narrated audiobook, and I’m quite tickled!
I’ve uploaded my bestselling novel Shelter, narrated by Lisa Kelly. And for a while, this audiobook is exclusive to YouTube.
I will do a little happy jig if you’d like to go give it a listen. And I’ll do a BIG happy jig if you subscribe to my channel. I know audiobooks aren’t for everyone, but the more subscribers we get, the more YouTube will show these Christian audiobooks to people who do want (and maybe even need) them!
I hope that the channel will continue to grow, and I hope that I can add lots more books by lots more authors (with, of course, lots of Christian romance). I didn’t go into this thing thinking that it would be an easy way to reach new people, but it seems that is what’s happening. Hooray for YouTube, I guess!
I know there are other Christian authors who have similar channels. I will link to some below, but please add your recommendations (channels, authors, or individual books) in the comments!
- Hannah Jo Abbot
- Malorie Ford
- Jessie Gussman (Say with Jay)
- Liwen Y. Ho
- and of course, Free Christian Audiobooks

I’ve lived listening to audio books on YouTube. The first one I found was one of Jessie Gussman’s & I was hooked. I love listening while I’m driving the dishes. Kimberley Montpetit has a bunch of hers on YouTube as well.

I have subscribed to a number of Christian author’s YouTube channels as a way of supporting them. However, I have rarely listened to full audiobooks because I didn’t have a good way to do that. My husband and two of my sons have been working remotely from my home, so if I listen to something while I do chores, I’ve been listening to praise and worship music instead. Recently, however, situations have changed and there are occasional days when I’m the only one at home, so I’ve been starting to listen to them when I can. The favorites I would list have already been mentioned, but I will give a special shout out to Say with Jay, which has all of Jessie Gussman’s audiobooks. He really does do a tremendous job, and not only with the full books. He has special “preview” videos, and he will usually have either a devotional or a “Cooking with Jay” episode where he makes a dish mentioned in the story that he is previewing. Since they are shorter, I have watched and listened to many of those.

Yes, you’re right! I’m embarrassed that I didn’t think to mention her. An author who also narrates!

I am not much into audiobooks. I have a predominantly visual learning style. However, I think it is wonderful to have another outlet to attract more readers.

I don’t listen to audiobooks often, but have been thinking about trying some of the free ones on YouTube while cleaning when my kids are at school.

Thank you, Robin. I subscribed to your channel as well as the others. It helps to learn about Christian authors who are doing this. I don’t subscribe to Audible.

I am not into listening to audio books, I prefer to read physical books. It is good that there are other ways for people to enjoy books besides reading them.
