Welcome to Freedom, Colorado! I’m so glad you took the time to climb on the trolley for a tour of our little town on your way to the resort. You’ll have to come back during the holidays because Christmas in Freedom is something special. But I won’t complain about July in Freedom either. It’s a great time to hike! If you haven’t been to Freedom Falls, definitely check it out. You know, it’s a pretty popular spot for a first date. I seem to remember that Ty and Addison went sightseeing there when they first became friends. It’s a perfect view!
We’re starting things off here in at the courthouse square. On your right is a Freedom staple – Stories and Scones run by the incredible Jan Clark. Well, I guess she’s Jan O’Roarke now, but I’ll let her tell you that story. I think everyone in Freedom was rooting for those two to finally get together. Stop in and ask for a Ridge Top Mocha and tell her Tara sent you!
On your right as we go around the corner is the courthouse square. If you happen to come by right after Thanksgiving, the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony kicks off the season in grand fashion. If you miss that, you can always catch the Christmas Parade the week before Christmas. Well, except for a few years back when they had to cancel the parade for that huge blizzard. There were people stuck on the mountain without power for days.
I say “No, thank you!” If I’m staying in Freedom in the winter, you can bet I’ll be up at Freedom Ridge Resort. Bryce really takes great care of everyone up there, and you can be sure Sabrina keeps him in line, along with that little boy of theirs.
We’ll head that way in a minute, but as we come around the town square, you’ll see many of our local businesses. Be sure to stop in to Art and Soul to grab a one-of-a-kind treasure from our local artist, Claire, or grab a cupcake from Patience nextdoor and see Tuck’s wooden craftsmanship. Those two best friends getting together was so much fun to watch. Except when Patience put salt in the cupcakes when we were in the running for a small-town television series. Whoops!
As we take the scenic drive up toward Freedom Ridge Resort, we’ll pass some of the oldest parts of Freedom. Did you know we were settled in the 1860s during the Colorado Gold Rush. Our mining roots still shine through in some of the names of our streets and mountains, but the Freedom the settlers found here was more precious than even the gold they searched for.
Freedom Bible Church has been around almost as long as the town itself, and any Sunday morning, you’re sure to find familiar faces worshipping together and listening to Pastor Stephenson speak.
Here we are, ladies and gentleman! Freedom Ridge Resort. Grab a drink from Mountain Mugs while you wait to get checked in and be sure to make a reservation at Liberty Grille for the best meal and the best view on the mountain. The manager Daniel and the head chef, Ashley are a wonderful team–although how they spend so much time together at home and at work is beyond me.
I hope this short tour has shown you a glimpse of all the wonderful places and people here in Freedom. Our little town is certainly something special. Where else do you find so many stories of friends, faith, and community?
Plus, if you come back at Christmas, I’m sure there will be even more stories to look forward to!
In fact, maybe I’m not supposed to tell you this… but every year at this time we do a little holiday celebration. I know it’s still 6 months until Christmas, but you all should come! Christmas in July is always a blast with tons of giveaways, guest authors, and sneak peeks at what the Christmas season has in store for us later this year!
Thanks for touring with me! I’ll be hanging out at Stories and Scones if you need anything during your visit.
