First I want to thank everyone for a great book release month for Their Surprise Second Chance. It was awesome watching God work through everyone who gave an encouraging word, shared a post, wrote a review. Thank you! What a great group of people!
How many of you travel for the holidays? I must admit this is something I’ve never done. Oh, I’ve traveled from my hometown to relatives house-maybe an hour away, but I’ve never gone far away from my home during the holidays. But this year……I am! My husband and I are traveling to Puerto Rico to spend Thanksgiving with our son, his wife, and our granddaughter. So sun, surf, and family for the holidays!
So, as a whole what do you think of holiday travel in romance? Well, Christmas movies wouldn’t exist without it, right? All the heros and heroines that ‘come home for the holidays?’ That makes for good romance, for sure. But then someone always ends up moving–or moving back.
Then we have the mishap holiday travel in romance where they end up in the wrong place. Whether they were stuck, (’cause you know the bad snow storm!) or they took a wrong turn and ended up in a quaint, homey town where of course they are going to find love!
What about the travel with the family holiday romance? The whole family travels and everything seems perfect-except it isn’t. Something goes wrong—need a good, strong local hero anyone? Or what about a last minute dessert from the beautiful hometown baker? See where we’re going here?
One thing is usually central–holidays are family oriented. Even if your biological family isn’t close by we have friends that feel like family. I know our son and his family have a host of friends in PR. They all gather around the holidays. This year though, when we told them we had secured our tickets, they were thrilled. Not only because we were coming, but because all their friends’ families were visiting as well. So I’m looking forward to meeting them and having a grand Thanksgiving. I will miss our family here, of course, but I’m always up for a new adventure.
So what about you? How do you feel about traveling for the holidays? Do you do it? Do folks come and visit you? I’d love to hear your Thanksgiving plans for this year!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
God gave me free will and I choose to absolutely, categorically avoid airports during holiday seasons. I love traveling at other times of the year and visiting friends and family then. Merry Christmas everyone!
Dianne–I might be in total agreement after this trip. But, I chose the cheaper flight days which put me flying in the Sunday before Tgiving–and we’re not leaving until the Tuesday night after–so maybe I’ll avoid the major crowding! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy the fellowship with your friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving
I think it’s wonderful that you will be with your son’s family for Thanksgiving. When we travel for holidays, it’s usually by car.
Thank you. We are looking forward to it! And doing something different. I live in North Ga and I remember traveling (by car) to south Ga for Tgiving when my children were small. The traffic!! You really needed to strategize for the trip because it involved going through downtown Atlanta.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I haven’t traveled for Thanksgiving in a long time!! It’s smack in the middle of the busy season for my insurance business, and that makes it really hard to get away! I have traveled for Christmas just back in 2021, and I loved it!! This year, I’ll be spending both holidays with friends that live close by.
Trudy–I understand. That’s why our son doesn’t travel up here for the holidays–they are extra busy with their work. But they love it, so yay!! So glad to hear you’ll be hanging out with friends. I know it will be a blessed time.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your friends!!
Last year we went to South Dakota for Thanksgiving at my sister’s house but this year we are having it at our house
Hi Kendra–I bet it is cold in South Dakota this time of year. Glad you can stay in and stay warm, right? And I’m sure those come to your house will say it, but I’ll reiterate–Thank you for hosting! It’s always a blessing to go to someone’s home during the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Hi Lindi!! Your holiday plans sound awesome. Family and a warm beachy place. Could it get any better!? We do not travel for the holidays. We’re all local. But we do Thanksgiving a little differently. We do Thansgiving breakfast. Since our kids are grown, married, and have kids of their own, this makes it so they don’t have 2 big turkey dinners in 1 day. It works so well and everyone loves it. The down side is that I miss all the pre-parade Broadway performances. But it’s a amall price to pay.
I hope you have a safe, wonderful holiday. Happy Thanksgiving.
Bonnie–I LOVE the idea of a Thanksgiving breakfast. I know that’s a tradition your family must love. I do remember 2 turkey dinner days—they were rough on the belt line–stretch pants for sure!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Puerto Rico sounds sn amazing place to visit!
There’s no Thanksgiving holiday where I am in the UK (I wish there was as it sounds great from what I have read and seen on TV!), so people mainly visit gamely over the Christmas holiday.
I always used to visit my parents for Christmas, but now I am married and have a young family we are at our home and have my widowed father in law with us. We still visit my parents earlier in December which is my dad’s birthday, so it works out well.
Ruthie—Hello to the UK-I did like staying at home when I had younger kids. They are into their toys and whatever they got at Christmas. Plus, they are overly tired!! Enjoy your time with your family.
My son’s family and myself are going camping for Thanksgiving. The campground is about 30 minutes from where we live.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Bonnie–I’m all for camping–but in a camper!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
We’re planning to drive to a relative’s house a couple hours away from us. Hope you have a wonderful trip. Happy Thanksgiving!
Diana–Thank you—safe travels for you! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
We do not travel for the holidays. I had aunts and uncles who would travel to come to Thanksgiving at our house when I was a child. At this time, there is just my husband, my Dad and I. God bless you.
Debra–Praying for an amazing thanksgiving for you, hubby and your dad. I know it will be special. Enjoy–and thank you for visiting Inspy Romance!!
