I had no idea I’d be assigned this day to blog this month, but it’s perfect timing because I have a new book out today! I’d like to introduce you to Romanced by the Hero, book 12 in the Heroes of Freedom Ridge series!
This book was fun and challenging to write for several reasons:
- It required a lot of research because the female lead is legally blind and I wanted to write her character with authentic and accurate experiences.
- It had to have a lot of romantic moments because the title kind of promises that (haha).
- As the last book of the series this year, I needed to include many of the other characters from the previous books, so that meant a lot of brainstorming and coordination with the other authors.
By God’s grace, I think I pulled it off. I’m very happy with how the book turned out and I can’t wait for you to meet Amy and Mac!
Here’s the gist of the story:
Two broken hearts. One lonely Christmas. And a love dare that changes everything for two new friends.
As Head of Security at Freedom Lodge, MacGyver Spark is used to protecting people. Since losing his fiancée in a car accident, he’s gotten good at protecting his heart as well. Determined to focus on his health and recovery, he’s kept himself busy with work and AA meetings and also far, far away from the opposite sex. He was content with living the life of a bachelor, until his cousin asked him to play tour guide for a gorgeous female friend.
Romance book blogger Amy McCormick isn’t one to wallow in self-pity. Born blind, she’s always tackled challenges head-on and been grateful for both the peaks and valleys of life. Except for her current valley—getting dumped by her first love—that has her questioning her faith and the future. Escaping to Colorado for a snowy, guy-free Christmas sounded like a good plan, until Mac shows up and challenges all her beliefs about men.
When faced with their greatest fears, Mac and Amy must learn to lean on each other and discover if love can really save the day.

I’d like to read Romanced by the Hero. I also write contemporary romance. My son-in-law is blind, and he has not let that hold him back in life.
Renate says
Hi Liegen! Would love to read your new release! Congrats! While teaching Freshman English, I had a blind student. This teacher learned a lot, even though I already had some experience interacting with blind people. When hubby attended Seminary we had a blind young man on our deacon group. Every Sunday he was our dinner guest. January 1978 I had to explain to him why city busses weren’t running due to a record breaking Michigan blizzard. Happy Holidays and best wish!

It sounds like an interesting read and I love the title.

Such a great book!!!! All of the books in the series that I’ve read have been great! I haven’t YET read them all, but probably about half, maybe?
Alicia Haney says

Hi Trudy! Aww, yay, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Hope you get to catch up on the rest of the series. You met many of the characters already in this book.
Priscila Perales says
I’ve only read yours and Jessie’s so far, but what surprised me the most was realizing every “season” of six books was encompassing 3 years (it makes so much sense, haha). Congrats on your newest release!!
Margaret Nelson says
Since I’m on your launch team, I got to read Romanced by the Hero and really enjoyed it (and you don’t have to put me in the drawing!) I’ve read quite a few other of the Heroes of Freedom Ridge series, but keep waiting for another free month or two of Kindle Unlimited to read more :-) Keep up the good work!!
Jcp says
I have not read any of them yet.

Hi Alicia! Thanks! I love all the book covers in this series. And thankfully they are all available in print too if that works better for you. :) Thanks for commenting!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Natalya! Thanks so much! It is a good combo! :)
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Priscila! So interesting, right? I was a bit surprised at the timeline at first too, but it’s neat to be able to see the characters again several years later in the later books. Thank you so much for your support! :)
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Margaret! Ahh, good thinking on waiting for a free month! ;) Thank you so much for your support with this launch!

Hi Jcp! No worries, this series is great for reading year round, not only at Christmastime. Thanks for commenting!

I have not read any of these books yet, but I think I have a couple in my TBR pile. I would love to read this one as I have had some experience with the blind. My brother-in-law has been blind since birth and he and my sister have raised a couple of leader dog puppies for their first year. Being a dog lover that angle is one I especially love! Being blind doesn’t stop many people from much in life but it does change their path along the way. It is so interesting to learn about.
Wishing you all a very Blessed Christmas!

I won a book in the series on this blog a while ago! I have not had time to read it yet … (among my homework for university, the books that I have stored in bookfunnel, the kindle cloud in amazon, those that I have bought on paper and those that I download from internet pages in Spanish where they offer free books or they lend them online … oh and the webtoons that I follow) I haven’t read it hahaha.
But I love the premise … especially that the protagonist is blind and reviews books, how does she read them? Do use audiobooks? braille? I do not know much visual impairment. especially when at least in my country I have never seen a single book in braille in any library or bookstore.
Kendra Muonio says
Sounds like a great book I have read one of the other books in the series
Bobbie Turner says
I would love to read this book. I’ve read other books by this author and enjoyed them immensely.

Hi Deb! I hope you’ll get to read this series soon. Thanks for sharing about your brother-in-law and sister. What a fun job they have raising puppies! Merry Christmas to you too!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Lilly! Oh my, you need some extra hours in a day to read! Lol. Yes, Amy uses audiobooks and books in braille, too. Good question! Thanks for commenting!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Kendra! Oh yay, I’m glad you’ve gotten a taste of Freedom, Colorado already. Thanks for commenting!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Bobbie! I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you for reading them!
Debra J Pruss says
Thank you so much, Liwen. You are a blessing to me. I have not read a lot in the last two years. Unfortunately, that means that I have not read any of the Freedom Ridge books. Thank you for your inspiration and caring. God bless you. Merry Christmas.
Trixi says
I have not read any of the books in the Freedom Ridge series, but I looked them up on Amazon and they sound like ones I would enjoy :-)
I also like books with uncommon heroes or heroines, like your character Amy who is blind. It adds an extra special layer to the story. I KNOW I’d enjoy “Romanced by the Hero” just because you wrote it Liwen :-)
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Debra, thank you for your kind words! You are a blessing to me too! I’m glad you’re still hanging out in the romance reader world even if you are not reading as much. Merry Christmas to you too!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Trixi! Aww, that’s a big vote of confidence there! :) Thanks so much. I like uncommon heroes and heroines too; that’s part of the reason why I wrote Amy’s character. Thanks for commenting!
Amy Perrault says
I plan to read them. They sound so interesting.
Melynda says
I’ve read a couple of the books in the series and loved them! The rest are in my TBR pile, but I’m sure I’ll love those too!
Deb Galloway says
It is a rewarding job but there are rules I had never thought of too. Never giving them table scraps or treats for one. It’s one thing for you but you don’t think about how often others want to treat your pup (I love making treats for my Angel & have been known to share them). By far the hardest thing has to be giving them back for their training to start after a year! I was sad then-and I didn’t even see them every day. It is a gift to do but not everyone is cut out for the job. I know I wouldn’t do well, I’m a softie.
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Amy! I hope you’ll give them a try! Thanks for commenting!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Hi Melynda! Yay, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed them! Thanks for commenting!
Liwen Y. Ho says
Aw man, that does sound so hard! I don’t think I’d be cut out for the job either!
