I live in a part of the United States where we seldom get snow. So on our visit to the northeast part of the US, I was hoping to see some snow. So far all we’ve had is some cold rain and a little sleet. If I have to endure the cold, I say, “Let there be snow!”
Last year when we traveled back east for Christmas, they had a big snowfall, and I had a super time sledding and building a snowman with my granddaughters.
Maybe all I’ll see is paper snowflakes, since today is Make Cut-Out Snowflakes Day. Here are some snowflakes my granddaughters and I have created.
In my upcoming book, Hometown Hero, the fifth book in my Kellersburg series, the hero and heroine have to contend with snow several times. During the town Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, the heroine teaches some youngsters the techniques for catching snowflakes on your tongue. They are also traveling cross-country on their dog giveaway tour, and their travel plans are changed because of a snowstorm. Be sure to look for the book, releasing on January 5, 2022.
Do you like snow? If you do, what is your favorite thing to do when it snows?
I will give away a copy of the first book in my Kellersburg series, Hometown Promise, to one person who leaves a comment. I will draw the winning name on December 28, 2021 at 9PM MST.

Hi Merrillee! In Michigan we had a green Christmas with unusual warm fall and winter. Last year on Christmas we had 9 inches of snow. Only one dusting of snow and early this morning our area experienced 3 hail showers. Living in the Midwest I enjoy the four seasons. As a retiree, with a cup of hot chocolate I enjoy watching it snow. Nice white clean fluffy snow turning our world white and clean. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Isaiah 1:18. Catching snowflakes on my tongue, making snowballs and snow people, even shoveling snow. Happy Holidays.

I, too, live where we don’t get much snow. However, when it does happen, I start to cook. Maybe anticipating a power outage, usually a roast or something that can transfer to the top of the woodstove!
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
Sometimes we have lots of snow but this year has been a rainy Christmas. It actually just started raining again and is supposed to rain off and on all week. I prefer snow over all this rain. Have a Blessed New Year.
June Sheppard says
I do like snow, here in NJ we do get it but usually don’t have it at Christmas. It has been in the 50’s here so no snow yet.
Jessica B. says
In my part of the midwest we usually have some snowfalls each year. I love how light and bright everything looks when it is snowing.
Valerie Comer says
We get a brown Christmas (can’t call it green when everything’s frozen over and dead!) about once every 8-10 years, and we had that in 2020. This year it started snowing about ten days before Christmas and we got lots right across Christmas, too, making the roads treacherous. Thankfully we were snugged at home!
Paper snowflakes are so fun.
Priscila Perales says
I liked experiencing my first white Christmas while visiting some friends a few years ago, but I’m not sure I’d like it enough to live with it.
Kendra Muonio says
Yes I like the snow.I live in battle ground Washington and we don’t usually get much snow but Last year we got 1.5 feet of snow and right now our ground is white and it’s supposed to snow for the rest of the week.

I love snow! Whenever we get snow I like to go outside and play in it with my dog. She has so much fun running around in it.

Hi Renate,
There seemed to be a lot of places this year that didn’t get snow. I love the scripture you quoted.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Linda,
Do you cook on a wood stove? My grandmothers used to have one.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Lelia,
I also prefer snow rather than rain, although rain is easier to drive in than snow.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi June,
When our kids lived in NJ, we got to have fun in several big snowstorms.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Jessica,
You are right. Everything does look light and bright. Everything is so white after a snowfall.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Valerie,
When I was a kid in Montana, we had lots of snow, so I can imagine that you have lots in Canada.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Priscila,
I prefer not to live where it snows, but I don’t mind a short visit to share in the snow fun.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Kendra,
I lived in Spokane, Washington, when I was in high school. We often had a white Christmas there.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Megan,
Snow can be fun for pets, too.
Alicia Haney says
Hi, yes, I love snow but here in West Texas it is really a treat when we do get it on Christmas, this Christmas was a dry hot Christmas, but it was very nice. When it snows I usually just love to stay indoors and admire the snow from inside looking outside the window, I love to cuddle up on the couch with a blanket and my pup and watch movies. Have a great week and stay safe. Thank you for the chance.

I live on the Oregon coast and we rarely get snow….for which I’m glad for! I got plenty of it growing up in Illinois.
Though this year, we did get snow on Christmas day & yesterday…about 2-4 inches in some places. And our temperatures are well below average, about 20 degrees in the morning to warming up to just above freezing during the afternoon. What makes it really bad, is we don’t have plows nor ice melt stuff to put down on the roads. The city does put down gravel on some roadways but not all. So we’re stuck for a few days….my husband has weekends off, but is unable to get to work right now due to unfavorable driving conditions. He may miss a couple of days. So needless to say, I really don’t care for snow at all! I don’t mind looking at pictures of snow, but it makes it downright scary in my area.
No need to enter me into the giveaway as I’ve read your book :-)
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Alicia,
I have a brother who lives in Lubbock, so I know they get snow there occasionally.

Grandson Rowan and I created cut out snowflakes recently. He is four years old and hasn’t seen snow yet. The low country of SC doesn’t get a lot of snow. :-) So, we make paper snowflakes and have fun giggling while creating the shapes. I like snow if we don’t have to travel in bad weather. Definitely don’t like icy conditions. But, I enjoy watching the snowflakes fall gently through the air, while I stay inside the house.

Hi Trixi,
It is hard to deal with snow in areas that don’t often have it. My husband is a big Chicago Bears fan, and yesterday when he tuned into the game, we thought it was in Chicago instead of Seattle because of the snow. Your area and Seattle must have gotten the same storm.
Merrillee Whren says
Hi Melissa,
Snow is definitely more fun if you don’t have to travel in it.
Trixi says
Yes, we got the same storm. My sister-in-law lives about an hour outside of Seattle and she sent us her snow pictures taken from her front porch. I think they actually got more than we did.
It was funny to watch the game yesterday and see snow on the Seattle field. That’s definitely a rare sight.

I for one have never really seen snow. I saw old snow the end of September in Canada but it was really Ice. wasn’t soft, clean or fresh it was like defrosting my freezer and throwing the ice on the lawn It was actually really disappointing. I could see it on the mountains (Where I was is surrounded by mountains) you could see the snowline getting a little further down the mountain tops each day but it wasn’t cold enough where we were for snow.
I want to see it I want to build a snowman. (I would love to make a snow angel but not sure I would get up again). Even snow flurries would be enough. One day.
Diana says
I love to watch it snow while sewing and drinking tea.
Debra J Pruss says
I enjoy watching the snow fall. I am disabled so being in the snow is very challenging for me. I love to watch it come down inside covered in a blanket. I also love to sit and read. Thank you for sharing. God bless you. Your new book sounds fabulous.
Amy Perrault says
I’m not a big fan of snow due to shoveling & going places can be hard for me. I have fun having snow ball fights & snowmobiling.
Sylvain P says
I not mind the snow. I like it most when I can play hockey on the rinks
Julie Dahl says
I like to watch it snow from inside the house. It looks so pretty on the trees.
