Lindi here.
Congratulations to DKStevens and kdale1–you were the winners of my last giveaway. :) Thank you so much for commenting! If we haven’t connected let me know in the comments and I’ll contact you.
Now, for today! I hope everyone is in the mood to have fun. This is a light-hearted fun post where we’re all going to make up stuff.
As writers, we make stuff up all the time. As readers, unless we are reading non-fiction, we like to read about worlds our fav authors have made up. Even if the cities are real, the conflicts just like something we went through a while back, or the characters remind us of someone we know, the bottom line is we are reading fiction. Fiction=made up stuff.
And I make up words. I know this for two reasons. Number one, my Word program underlines them in red. As in “This word doesn’t exist!” Then when control F7 has no replacement, you know you’ve just made up a word.
Number two reason I know I make up words is because my husband tells me every time I tell him something is littler. He says, “It’s smaller.” I say, “Sure. It’s littler.” He then says, “Littler isn’t a word.” I sigh.
Again.
So, here’s what’s going on today. I write Inspirational Romance, which, like this blog, I call it Inspy Romance. Inspy sounds fun, and bright. But I also write sweet romance. It’s written from a Christian worldview, but the spiritual theme may not be as obvious as in some of my other stories. So, I decided to make up a word for that.
Swinspy.
Yes, I am a Swinspy author.
So by now I’m sure you all think I’m crazy. And I am a little. We have to have a little craze in all of us. What do you think of my new word?
So, here’s the challenge. Do you make up words? If so, leave a comment with a word you’ve made up–or seen made up in a book.
I would love to know I’m not the only one who does this :)
Any commenters will be in a drawing for a $5.00 Amazon gift card.
Can’t wait to read your “words.”

Kersnorfle (verb): a weird thing my dog does that involves rolling around on his back and snorting. “Look, Mom, Porter is kersnorfling again, he must be itchy!”

I make up words all the time. At the moment I can’t think of any(of course), but my mom made up biodisinegratable. :)

Lee- love this word. :) I have a dog, I will let you know when he “kersnorfles.”

My little granddaughter used to speak of “lastnighterday” which basically meant anything in the past! Sadly she now has a better grasp of the variations of the past and no longer uses this. **must put in story**
I once worked in a furniture store. The owner had been a high school math teacher before retirement. Him: well educated. Me: not so much, but I can act like it. I considered it a personal victory when I caught him using one of my phrases: “more better.” Not a new word, per se, but a new combo!

Valerie–I like lastnighterday—it totally makes sense!! And the phrase thing is so true as well–:)

Valerie’s comment made me think of my older granddaughter’s interesting take on nap time. This is necessarily made up words but a made up concept. She had her “light nap” and her “dark nap.”

Sometimes I make up words but the most endearing was really my late husband that started it.
We travelled a lot and were into CB’s Remember those? My name is Linda and he started calling me linderella.
Over the years it transformed into my email which is linderellar.
So everytime I send an email I remember the good times I had with him.

Nothing really new… sketti… spaghetti, hamgrrrber… hamburger, One phrase I dislike is it ‘hurts real good!’ how does something hurt – good?? I enjoyed the fun words.
** thanks so much for the new book to read :)

I like swinspy, Lindi! Growing up, my best friend and I used to make up words…crazy words. We used to call a sweet treat a woullion, like a bouillon cube. Don’t ask me where we came up with that or why I remember it. :)
Trixi says
I saw this on Facebook so this is my word: Glam-ma, a woman who’s children have had children, but she is far too young, gorgeous & glamorous to be called “Grandma”
You like that….haha!! :-D

Hi Merrillee–That’s a cool concept. :)

Linda—Ah! Great story! And Linderella–how awesome. I know those memories are precious and make you smile. Thank you for sharing.

Linda–I haven’t heard the hamgrrrber before. That’s fun. And Yes, I know what you mean about hurts so good—the only time I’ve found that saying real was when I had a massage once–it hurt–but then felt good? Can’t really explain it. But it is a strange saying. Great to see you here!!
Lindi Peterson says
Hi Jill—Thanks for sharing! Maybe you guys used to like bouillon cubes? Not sure–that would be a salty treat! And thanks for liking Swinspy!

Trixie!! How perfect!!! I love Glam-ma!
