Hi InspyRomance Readers! I’m very happy to introduce a dear author friend of mine to you today. Shanna Hatfield and I met through a multi-author project that she graciously invited me to join a few years ago. Through our time working together, I got to know this kind woman who gives of herself so generously. Shanna is like a breath of fresh air filled with all the sweet fragrances of spring (that’s why I chose the photo above). I hope you enjoy getting to know her and her new release!

1) Hi Shanna, thanks so much for joining us today! Please share with us 3 fun facts about yourself.
  1. I love to bake and try out new recipes.
  2. Photography is a hobby I enjoy.
  3. The sight of a John Deere tractor gives me the sweetest sense of nostalgia. I spent a lot of time riding in one with my dad during my growing up years.
2) Why do you write romance? What genres do you like do read?
I’m a hopeless romantic who loves to write. Writing romances just seemed like such a natural thing to do and I couldn’t stop once I got started. I enjoy reading a variety of genres but historical romances are probably my favorite. I adore stories set during the Edwardian era.
3) I love the nickname you gave your hubby, Captain Cavedweller. I’m curious, how did you guys meet and how did you know he was the one for you?
One of my friends and I were brainstorming nicknames for my husband when I first started blogging. He didn’t want his name plastered all over my blog, so we came up with a list of names. That one fit him the best although Admiral Winchester was a close second. We met on a blind date set up by our dads. They knew each other and kept trying to introduce us but neither of us was interested. We finally agreed to go out and the first time I opened the door and looked into CC’s eyes, I knew he was the one for me.
4) What’s your favorite Bible verse, and why?
I have many verses that are special to me, but one means so much to me is Genesis 28:15: “I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest…” Just love the idea that no matter where I am, no matter where I go, God is with me. It’s such a comforting thought and one that has lifted me up many times over the years.
5) What was the inspiration for your new series?
The Summer Creek series is actually a combination of two series ideas I had. One was to be about a ranch set in Eastern Oregon, the other was about a family on a ranch with Summer in the title. CC and I were on a road trip when I just suddenly had the idea to combine the two. We brainstormed for six hours and by the time we returned home, I had pages and pages of notes. The town of Summer Creek is at the heart of the series, a run down small-town full of quirky characters – the kind you want to meet at the cafe and chat with over a slice of pie. There are parts of pieces of my hometown, a small town near where we live, and the rest is all my wild imagination.

  8. I do like reading stories featuring cowboys. What is it about them, I wonder? I guess it’s the idea of the “cowboy code”; he’s a gentleman through and through, he’s respectful of womenfolk, he lends a helping hand when needed, and just an all around nice guy. That’s the kind of cowboy I love to read about! Of course, there are a few scoundrels out there, lol! But I also love a reformed scoundrel, that just make him more appealing in a book. Redemption is a beautiful thing when it comes to characters (in my book anyway)! :-)
