My Regards to Elvis
Sometimes an author will add an element to book one in a series and then decide to carry the theme through to the end of the series. For example, Vivian Emerson in Irresistibly Yours liked to collect seashells and make stuff with them which she sold in The Clever Mermaid. Both the seashell creations and the shop found their way into the rest of the books in the series.
And then there’s Elvis. I like Elvis’ music but I’m not a mega fan. But my daughter is. Sometimes, okay, a lot of times authors draw inspiration from real life and people they know. When I wrote Mistletoe Kiss, I thought it would be cute to give Ma Spencer the same obsession with Elvis my daughter has. Mistletoe Kiss was just a cute little Christmas novella so what could be the harm?
Well, it ended up spinning out into a four-book series and now Elvis is popping up everywhere. Even all the barn cats are named Elvis. The youngest Spencer kid, Zane, has impersonated Elvis twice already just to please his momma, and looking into the future, I can see this may be something that sticks with him. But I’m getting ahead of myself. His story will be book four(if you don’t include the novella) and I just released book two, yet you can see where this is going. Elvis is here to stay.
I hope you enjoyed this little insight of my writing process. And this is where I leave off for now. This will be my last blog post for InspyRomance. I’ve enjoyed my time here, but life is pulling me in other directions. If you’d like to keep in touch, please visit my website- www.andreaboyd11.com. So, I’m going to assume that Elvis has not left the building.

You simply never know what something can lead to, lol. Grandma gave Mum an Elvis LP for Christmas one year, leading to much hilarity as Mum loves tattoos not Elvis. Best wishes in your new endeavors, you will be missed. Now I am simply curious about which Elvis song is your current earwig, as now I can’t help falling in love…..

That was the song that Dean Spencer (Pop) used to sing to his wife, Leora, (Ma) so it is special to the Spencer family.

I think I’m stalking everywhere already! Lol!! I’ll miss your posts here, though! I’m not a big Elvis fan, though I do love In the Ghetto, Flaming Star, and Return to Sender. However, when you throw in his gospel singing, I’m a fan! So was my Mom! She didn’t care for any of Elvis’ songs until she heard him sing gospel, and then she loved those!

How fun that you are able to draw inspiration from your daughter. One of my great-grandmothers loved Elvis but she didn’t pass that love down to my grandma or dad.
Andrea Boyd says
I have no idea where my daughter got her love for Elvis. She was a toddler and when one of his songs would come on, she’d call out ‘Elvis!’ It was almost like she was born with it.

its nice when a theme or something interlinks books. Like one series by Cheryl Wyatt has a cat Psych that makes an appearance in most books and is a scene stealer.
Other sets have had an object or something that ties all books together and it makes for fun.
(One series had a wedding quilt that was handed down in the different books).

Best wishes to you!

My mom was probably a teen (or young adult) when Elvis was popular, but she tells me she just wasn’t into him. I guess for some people, he was a hit or miss. Isn’t it funny how our kids or grand-kids love something that was popular during our childhood and we have no idea where or who they got that from?
I also love when a theme runs through all the books in a series to tie them together! It’s fun to discover those little gems :-)
Andrea, I wish you God’s blessings on the next chapter of your life (no pun intended)! We’ll miss you here, but I’m so excited for new things to happen for you.

Thanks for bringing back the Elvis memories. I did love listening to him, but don’t often listen to much music now other than church songs. Time just doesn’t seem to be there. Best wishes on your ‘blog travels’.
