Whether we’re poolside, beach side, or lakeside, it’s time to pick up a book and escape this summer. In the past, when I’ve made the trek to the Texas Gulf coast for some time off in the sun ‘n sand, I’ve always taken a stack of books that I hope to make my way through.
Usually, though, I only complete one in the several days we spend by the water. I’m an ambitious reader, but I remind myself I’m on vacation, not completing an assignment.
But the atmosphere is perfect—sun, a big umbrella, a comfy chair, bare toes burrowed in the sand, a cool drink perched on the cooler. Sunglasses—so I can squint across at the water to watch the gulls or catch a glimpse of a passing ship heading for the harbor.
Even with technology letting us take a pile of books that would fill our vehicle and then some, there’s still something utterly relaxing about being next to the water and reading.
Usually for me, I’ll pick a white-knuckle romantic suspense or thriller, a romantic comedy, a happy-sappy-sweet-feel-good story, and round out the short stack with a nonfiction book, maybe a self-help book or a Bible study, or a writing how-to craft book.
This year, though, I hope you’ll tuck one book into your vacation stack, A Season of Change. Even if you’re not “into” Amish fiction, I hope you’ll check it out.
In one week, on Thursday June 12, I’ll be hosting an online chat party when we’ll talk about A Season of Change. We’ll have some Q&A about Pinecraft, the Amish, and have a few giveaways.
Best of all, the grand prize is a Kindle Fire HDX, and the winner will be announced at the party! You can enter ahead of time via the link below and need not be present at the chat to win.
However, I’d love it if you would stop by. We’re going to have a great time talking about Pinecraft, and I’m sure some of the discussion will be about the beach!
Now it’s your turn:
Do you have any special books you’re looking forward to this summer?

Lynette, I’m dreaming about summer as we’re having frosty mornings and chilly winter days here in Australia. Of course, my characters in my current wip are enjoying summer at the beach, lol.
