Happy New Year’s!
This is my first post of 2024 and I can’t believe I’m even typing that year. How time flies! Now that we’re in a new year, I’ve seen a lot of people sharing about reading challenges to participate in for the new year. I thought it would be fun to round them up for you and help you choose one that best suits your reading process. The beauty of reading challenges, is if you’re a fast reader, you can pick more than one to participate in. So in no particular order, here they are.
The publishing company, Bethany House, is doing a 2024 reading challenge. You can find this on their Instagram page, but I’ve included a graphic for ease. They have something to pick from each month so you only need to read 12 books to complete this challenge.
Karen Witemeyer always does a Posse reading challenge in her Facebook group. It’s so fun to see the wide range of books people read and then also to see the ones people choose in common.
Twenty-Four in 2024
The IG platforms @bookswithnopictures and @lemonyreads are doing a 24 in 24 reading challenge. Basically similar to the 23 in 23. You pick 24 reads that have been on your backlist TBR pile for a while and actually read them. :) I think this one is really fun but as a mood reader, I’m not gonna lie, I’m afraid of the commitment.
Christian Fiction Challenge
JaneReads is hosting a challenge strictly for Christian fiction. You can join up on her YouTube page or Instagram profile. This was is a little different in that it has three additional bonus prompts, so you could end up reading 15 books for the year and not just the twelve.
#ReadChristianRomance
I might be partial to this one just because romance. My heart flutters just wondering about the possible awesome reads I could fit in that category. Not to mention every author on this blog would provide a book for this challenge. Oceana Gottareademall is hosting this one. You can follow her on YouTube or Instagram to keep up with the challenge.
Read Around The World-a-Thon
YouTuber and Bookstagrammer Katie is hosting a read-a-thon focused on the setting of the books. You can watch her YouTube video where she talks about it and follow her there as well. You can also follow her on Instagram.
Around the world in 50 (minus 1) books
This is a Facebook group featuring multi authors. They’ll be reading around the world in 2024 and their first quarter lineup looks interesting. If you’re interested in this one, you can join their Facebook group.
I do a reading challenge every year in my Facebook author group. It’s fun to chat with others about what they read based on the prompt I use.
Notable Mention
Eating Our Words Facebook group is also doing a reading challenge. This group has authors like Jaime Jo Wright and Kimberley Woodhouse, to name a couple of the host. They have a PDF documents, so I’m just linking to their group in case you’re interested.
Well, that’s all of the challenges I know of. If I missed any, please leave them in the comments to share with us. They’re so much fun and help us change up are reading habits, in my opinion. Also, I’d like to do a giveaway to help you get started on your 2024 reading.
Giveaway
For a chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card, please leave a comment telling me your first read for 2024. Comment by 1/8/24 at 11:59pm PDT. A random winner will be picked on 1/9/24 and be emailed (please check your spam folders).
My first read this year was ‘Child of Promise ‘ by Debbi Migit. It’s a true story of their journey through adoption but it had me in tears as she tells of God speaking to her and the promises He made that were fulfilled exactly. It really challenged me to listen more and obey more promptly!
Happy New Year Toni!
My first read for 2024 was The Mapmaker’s Daughter by Clare Marchant. As a retiree, who enjoys research I am fascinated with old maps – how they were made and historical details. Clare Marchant is a new author to this reader. While I am not always delighted with dual timeline stories, I enjoyed how Frieda and Robyn’s stories intertwined – Frieda making the map in 1570, while Robyn in 2022 researching the history of the map found in her father’s map shop. I enjoyed the Tutor setting, facts about the Spanish Inquisition, the Ortalius connection to map making. Robyn was struggling as the 7 year anniversary date approached when her husband was lost at sea. Never really thought about the legal aspects of declaring somebody dead when there isn’t a body.
My first new series for 2024 is the 4 book series Christmas Letters by Shanna Hatfield. In our digital world, letter writing and snail mail is a lost art. This retiree misses the newsy Christmas letter and notes of the past. Therefore I was drawn to the beautiful covers with a wintry scene and a mailbox. Read Book 1 Hello Mister Frost. Book 2 is my favorite Hello Mister Silver, the Ornament Guy. Books 3 Hello Miss Nicholas and Book 4 Hello Miss Baker will be released later this month.
Thanks for listing so many interesting book challenges. Book challenges and being part of my library Lake Bluff Book Club have me reading at least 2 months a month out of my comfort zone of historical & contemporary romances or cozy mysteries. This year I am participating in The Book Girls’ Around the World in 50 Books (minus 1) challenge. Happy Reading and Writing.
As a part of a book club (with my friend and I writing letters to one another discussion the book between the two of us) we are reading The Dress Shop on Kings Street by Ashley Clark.
For my own reading pleasure in reading Muskoka Hearts by Carolyn Miller.
I read a chapter from each at night before bed.
I love all these reading challenges. I do the standard Goodreads reading challenge. My goal is always 24. And I’m VERY much a mood reader.
Popsugar did a reading challenge that helped me find a love of time slip and found my love of Christian fiction! I would have never read a book that was Christan fiction because I thought they were too ‘fluffy with no real challenges’ but I stumbled across a book by Rachel Hauck but now I can’t remember if it was the wedding dress book or a book about the wedding veil.
Regardless, now I only read Christian fiction and clean reads. This website is a source of much inspiration.
Thanks for sharing these!
My first book this year was Identity by Nora Roberts. I have not read her books in a long time and I enjoyed this one.
I love how books can challenge us!
I just started reading Shadows in the Water by Kory M. Shrum
Hope you have fun with your reading challenge!
My first read of 2024 is The Widow’s Choice by Lorraine Beatty. I should finish it today, as I spent yesterday proofing a book, which is now the second book of 2024. I read 233 books last year, 235 if you count I read my Bible through twice, and more if I could remember how many devotionals I did last year. I think it was three.
I’m so glad you found Christian fiction that challenges! Rachel H. is a great writer.
Awesome
Nice!
Well if you’re adding the Bible, I think you can add 66 books. ;)
Then I’d double that 132, lol!!
I am making my first read for 2024 “Child of Promise” I have not yet started it as I have not been feeling well since Jan. 2nd but this is the book by Debbi Migit that I will be reading. Have a Great weekend.
My first read for January 2024 is 26 Below by Kimberley Woodhouse.
I am reading Their Inseparable Bond by Jill Weatherholt and am about half done.
Praying you feel better!
The Christmas Village
I just finished The Seamstress of Acadie by Laura Frantz. It’s a fantastic read, which doesn’t surprise me, since Laura Frantz is one of my favorite authors. I love learning about different slices of history while reading a great book.
These reading challenges look fun, but I’m a mood reader like you, and I also have books I’ve committed to read and review, so the challenges don’t always work well for me. Thanks for the fun post, Toni!
My first read of 2024 was How Sweet It Is.
Awesome choice
Who was that by?
Oh that one looks good.
Thanks for sharing your read!
Love that cover!
Happy New Year Toni!
I love these challenges, they have such interesting prompts for a range of books – I’m not sure if I have time to sign up for anything but I have book marked this post for inspiration next time I’m not sure what book to read!
My first read has been ‘A New Year’s Kiss Collection of Short Romances’ – I haven’t reached yours yet but have really enjoyed the stories I’ve read so far.
My first read was The Wake Up Call by Beth O’Leary!
My first book was A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING by Bill Bryson.

I started the year reading The Raging River Rescue by Ginny Sterling.

I started the year reading The Raging River Rescue by Ginny Sterling.
The first book I’m reading this year is A Million Little Choices by Tamera Alexander. I participate in Karen Witemeyer’s Posse group challenge and also in a local book club. Some of the other challenges look interesting but this is enough for me.
My first 2024 book was Regina Scott’s His Frontier Christmas Family. I got hooked on her Frontier Bachelors’ series, and used up all my Hoopla borrows for December, plus one of my husband’s Hoopla borrows, and then thankfully it was a new month and I could finish the series!
My first read for the year was “falling for a cowgirl” by Jody Hedlund
I’ve added a few of these reading challenges to my list but can’t do a whole lot since I’m a major mood reader.
I think I am going to start reading When Twilight Breaks by Sarah Sundin.
I’ve run across several challenges this week and I’m going to try to read along with several of them. I might not make each one every month, but I’m okay with that.
I knew about your challenge and I’m looking through my books and ebooks to find one with the winter setting.
My first read for 2024 was The Breakup Project by Carolyn Miller. I’m doing the Around the World in 50 (Minus 1) challenge, which starts with Love on Ice & I wanted to read book 1 before I read book 2. I’m so glad I did, the book was awesome & I just started book 2 this morning.
I’m also doing the Read (Sweet) Across the US challenge that Becki Lee is doing.
I use to do a one book from every state of America which was fun but challenging. Now I try to set a goal. this year will be 20 again. I would struggle having to read a certain topic each month. its the same with some that have certain genres. I know one that has a group of authors and they have a month each with set books to be read. Again a few are books I am not interested in so will give it a miss.
I also read wide, Historical, Contemporary, Cosy Mystery, Romantic suspense but not heavy, I love PI books like Susan Page Davis’s. and I don’t mind some Sci Fi. (Not into horror, heavy suspense, womens lit or regency)
The first book will probably be Donna Fletcher Crows Going there stories of the Riviera and beyond.
Mine is Just Right by Jessie Gussman. I am enjoying it.
Thank you for sharing all of these challenges! Some of them I did not know about.
The first book I read this year is The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Cozy mystery and enjoyable.
I won’t be starting any before next month as the eye surgery didn’t clear my vision. Hopefully the optometrists will be able to help me next month and I have no idea what book will be first. Happy reading!
Happy New Year to you! My first read of the year is Alls Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon. It’s really good so far!
It’s by Annie Rains
My first read of 2024 is an uncorrected proof of Butter by Asako Yuzuki.
What a Wave Must Be by Angela Hunt is my first read of 2024. Thanks for the links to the different reading challenges.
Driven to Distraction by Lori Foster.
There are so many good stories in that collection!
Awesome!
Interesting title!
Blessings to you too!
Oh that would be fun if you can have a book cover more than one.
Karen’s challenge is always fun imo.
Hoopla is such an awesome tool to use!
I hear ya on the mood reading!
Fortunately some of my reads have already covered the winter theme.
Awesome!
Eclectic reading is my favorite!
I need to read one of hers.
I don’t read a lot of cozy mystery but I’m not sure why.
Praying for your surgery!
Love that book!
What genre?
You’re welcome!
Nice.
