Lately I’ve been reading a lot of stories that have brought tears to my eyes. Am I in a season? Am I choosing all the same kind of books? Who knows. But I enjoy reading books that bring out emotions, and cause us to think and reflect on life. On the importance of relationships and how they affect us.
I’ve also come to determine that reading good books is therapy. What a balm for the soul!
I love that reading takes you on a journey-takes you places you may never have visited, puts you in situations you haven’t delved into before. Opens your eyes to new possibilities. What fun!
We’ve also talked here quite a bit about series and reading about the families authors have brought to life, books we look forward to reading in the future, seeing what love and romance comes into these towns regarding these families and friends. Fiction can take us out of the realities of real life for a little while, and at times that is what we need.
I guess you could say this is a reflective post. All the authors of this blog have a common thread–we love to write books about love–and about how God’s love propels us to love well. And to me, those are the best types of books. Are there other great books in other genres? Yes. Are there crime novels, mysteries, that can keep us glued to the page? Yes.
But for me, God’s love and romance is the best combination. That’s why I love writing the books that I do. I recently sent a book to an editor and am waiting for a response. I’m also working on another book, trying to plan the story, but that makes me crazy–but I’m learning more how to plan ahead, then not have such a mess at the end. :)
What about you? Do you have times in your life where you just want to crawl into good books? Why do you love this genre?
We’re going way back to my first novel, Her Best Catch. If you leave a comment, your name will go into a drawing for an E copy of my first novel.
I’m good with stories that show emotions and have happy ending
welcome. thanks for sharing . I too love good books that will take me along for the ride, but push all my emotional buttons. One’s where I can re-evaluate things about myself, one’s where I can learn and grow, ones where I can become a better person in one or more areas of my own life. I have certain authors that I know will do this for me and I keep going back to them.
Since the pandemic, I’ve been wanting funny stories with a happy ending. Sometimes the characters do have to go through some emotional times to get to that happy ending. I also am glad when God is honored. “Her Best Catch” looks good…I’d love to win an e-copy!
I love to read good books with a happy ending within a Christian context. I feel safe knowing I won’t have to stop reading if it gets more “steamy” then I am comfortable with. I guess it’s a way of relaxing for me.
I definitely want to read about fictional worlds with everything going on in the world.
I’m always up for a good book!! During this season of grief, I’ve not had any problems reading books, though I know of some who do have problems then. It has pushed me to keep reading my Bible, and to read CF. Books helps me process, even though none of them have dealt with grief, they force me to think of something other than what I’ve been going through.

Yes. There are times that I want to find a book that will make me laugh. I have another season that I want a book that will give a powerful message. Thank you for sharing. God bless you.
I always enjoy a good love story. I also like books with humor, especially after reading a more intense book. I didn’t know Her Best Catch was your first book. It really speaks to my romantic heart and is on my keeper shelf. I think it will probably always stay there and be re-read multiple times.
Yes, it’s a combination of escaping for a while into another’s story, while at the same time being encouraged by their experiences/journeys, and how they brought them closer to Christ.
I love good Christian romance books! There is no danger of having to stop reading or finding sinful models of relationship, also as a young woman it gives me hope that I will someday find a Christ-loving young man with whom to have a relationship.
Brenda—A happy ending is a must!

Diana–I know what you’re talking about regarding the steamy aspect. I love sweet stories in that respect.
Jcp—yes!!! Agreed. That’s why I work on puzzles as well instead of watching TV and such. Takes you away to a different world.
Trudy–Great pointing out that the Bible is great reading. I haven’t quit reading…the stranger things get, the more I dive into books!
