It’s (un)OFFICIALLY summer! The city pool opened today (we have an AWESOME pool, especially given the relatively small size of our town). It was so nice to see our lifeguards and catch up a bit. And my youngest (now 9yo) daughter is now tall enough that they don’t check her for the slides! And my son… he’s 6yo. He gets to be on swim team this year (he’s SO EXCITED) but he’s about 47.9″ tall. If he spikes his hair as he goes up the stairs, the guards who don’t know him will probably let him go down on his own ;). The guards that know him… well, they help him spike it :D. Some of his favorite guards are a bit sad though – every day we were at the pool (3-4xs a week or more), he’d convince one of them to take him down the slide. Now they don’t have that excuse anymore ;).
What about you? What marks the beginning of summer for you? I’d still love some more spring-like days, but sitting by the pool with a book in my hand while my kids have a blast? I can handle that. (See picture below.)
Of course, here in the States, it’s also Memorial Day Weekend. For many, it’s the official start to summer and it means a three-day weekend for a lot of people, complete with barbecues and parades. It’s also a time to remember those who have given their all for our freedom. While we set aside a day in November for Veteran’s specifically, if you know someone, American or not, who has served or who has a family member who has served or who has given their life, consider saying thank you.
