Did March come in like a lion or a lamb where you live? Here in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, it came in like the Abominable Snowman. Yes, that’s the view from my office window on March first! We usually do get some snow from mid-December through late January or so, but this year we have had tons, and it’s sticking around.
If you’re puttering around out in your garden already, I’m jealous! Why not tell me about it in comments?

Wemble says
Wow, that is some snow! I hope you are warm and toasty inside:)
Our garden is in full bloom- every second day we are picking cups of raspberries, bowls of tomatoes (lots of types, including the yummy yellow ones), zucchinis, cucumbers, basil, strawberries, chillies… I love going out and picking the ingredients for dinner from the garden.
Blessings, thanks for sharing the photo!
Renate says
Thanks for sharing, Valerie! In SW Michigan We have had an unusual warm winter with very little snow. In February we had an entire week of 60 degree temperatures, breaking a record. Unfortunately March 1 we saw a 30 degree temperature drop, high winds, lightening storms, and pouring rain. Two communities 30 miles south of us had tornadoes.Lots of damage and power lines down. In Illinois, south of Chicago two communities had a F4 tornado with 3 deaths. So March came in with vengeance! With the warm weather and then high winds, hopefully Mother Nature did not destroy to much of our fruit trees, and vineyards. The warm weather affected the maple syrup industry, because without nightly frosts the maple syrup turns bitter. I didn’t know that. Best wishes and Happy Writing.
Esther Morehead says
No snow here, but this winter’s abundant precipitation has both a blessing & a Hazzard here in SoCal (southern California).
Maureen Kay Lynch says
Also in So Cal for the time being. Lots of rain and cool temps make for beautiful green hillsides with a snow-covered mountain backdrop.
Robin L Pugh says
Here in upstate Vermont, March came in with the lion of high winds and below zero temperatures. Last week we had a run of really warm weather which was a blessing and a curse. A blessing for all of us who long for spring, a curse for the ski/snowboard industry which needed a really good snowy year after last years abrupt and early of end of season.
Have a wonderful week!
Valerie Comer says
Mmmm. In six months I’ll have a garden like that! :D I love letting the garden choose what’s for dinner, too.
Valerie Comer says
Yes, unseasonably warm weather has lots of repercussions, too. :(
Valerie Comer says
I’ve sure been hearing stories from your part of the world, too! It used to be that weather was a cop-out conversation. Not in recent years!
Valerie Comer says
That’s a lovely word picture :)
Joelle Hawkins Teague says
Well, here in Georgia it was in the 80s last week and this week we have highs in the 60s so a little crazy…
Valerie Comer says
I hear you, Robin, on the mixed blessing. Around here, the ski hill operators are very very happy – except when the roads are closed from too much snow so skiers can’t get there!
Valerie Comer says
Wow, Joelle! Temps have been fluctuating for so many people I know. (Not us, LOL… just the right temperature for snow for weeks on end!)
Margaret Nelson says
I’m in northern California, and we’ve been getting LOTS of rain. This past week the sun did come out long enough that I was able to finish pruning our apple trees, but the rain is back this weekend. It’s also been colder than it has been for the past 5-6 years, so I’ve been digging out sweaters and sox I haven’t worn for that long :-)
Patty says
I live in the south, so we don’t normally get a lot of snow, but usually we will get at least a dusting or maybe an ice storm that will cause some trouble with power lines and such, but it’s been a very mild winter here in SC.
Linda says
Hi,Valerie.I live in a small us an apartment and Although I love sustanibilty,I have a brown thumb.
My solution,I gifted a box of seeds to my granddaughter who has a huge garden and green house.
I get fresh veggies in exchange plus I am going to teach her to can.
Winnie Thomas says
We’ve had record snowfalls here in northern Utah. It’s mostly gone from the lawn now, but we’re supposed to get another round this evening. We should have plenty now for the summer. :-D I can’t believe it’s March already. Time is flying!
Valerie Comer says
Love that trade off!
Valerie Comer says
It’s snowing here again today! Crazy stuff.
Valerie Comer says
That’s what I’ve been hearing about the whole east coast area!
Valerie Comer says
Sometimes wearing sweaters is nice! At least, I think so :)
Jackie Smith says
I’m in Georgia so my weather is like Joelle’s (above)~~
Susanne says
I would have to say March came in like a lion here in southern IN. There were several tornados here in the area, and my brother actually lost his home. Although my brother was at work, his wife & three boys were at home, and had to seek shelter in a hall closet. The bedrooms they had been in just moments before the storm, took a direct hit. We are beyond thankful that there were no injuries involved!
Valerie Comer says
Sort of the opposite of mine!
Valerie Comer says
I’m so sorry for your brother’s family, Susanne! That is lion behavior for sure. I’m so glad they are all okay.
Judy says
Here in AL we have had a very mild winter and already have spring flowers blooming. The snow is pretty to look at, but I love Spring!
Valerie Comer says
That’s one of the best things about snow – how very pretty it is. Good thing I think so, as we had more today!
Judy says
I live in eastern Ontario where it was -30 last night….thankfully I am visiting at Koionina farm in Georgia where the birds are singing and the grass is green. Spring is beautiful and I will miss it when I return home soon.
Valerie Comer says
Sneaky way to escape winter! ;) Minus 30 is very cold, whether we’re talking Celcius or Fahrenheit!
Jessica B. (USA) says
Here in SW Ohio, March came in with strong thunderstorms with tons of lightning and lots of rain. There were even some tornadoes east of where I live. Hopefully this isn’t a precursor of what our spring weather is going to be like.
Valerie Comer says
I’ll take blizzards any day! (Well, maybe not July or August…)
Trixi says
Happy SONday everyone! Valerie, sorry about the snow outside your window! I grew up in Illinois, so I’ve had plenty of opportunity to see snow and it’s one thing I do not miss here on the Oregon Coast. Though this year has been much wetter and much colder than in recent years. But I think the weather has been odd just about everywhere around the world!
Valerie Comer says
You’re right, it’s been odd many many places!
Sally Shupe says
Thank you so much! Congratulations to all the winners! I am still awaiting that one big snow before I’m ready to turn the reins over to spring/summer.
Valerie Comer says
Sally, I woke up this morning to find the Abominable Snowman still on the rampage with 2.5-3 inches FRESH snow overnight. It’s crazy here!
annby98 says
Still cool here in Eastern Washington down south of you, though the snow the sun can reach is gone, it’s still in shaded areas, and we are supposed to get a bit more. We are supposed to get 2-6 inches in the next couple days, though at this point I’m hoping it becomes a non event, like late last week. It’s March, I’m ready for warmer weather already.
annby98 says
And this is Andrea Byers. Need to change my name on wordpress somehow, lol
Valerie Comer says
Yes, I’m seeing more in the forecast for this week, aside from the three fresh inches this morning. I think the kids will build snowmen on spring break…
Jessica B. (USA) says
I agree. If I didn’t have to deal with severe thunderstorms and tornadoes again, that would be just fine with me.
