Where I live, we’re starting to think about autumn. Not that it’s anywhere near coming, but we’re all so tired of summer that our minds naturally turn to that break in the weather that comes with fall. I was going to write a nice little weather-themed note to go with today’s Sunday Edition, but as I started it, all I could think was, “What about the people of Texas?”
It’s so easy for us to complain about our own situation. Yet there are many, many people out there worse off than us. It puts our complaints into perspective and reminds us how privileged we are to live in a country where the *norm* is a roof over your head and a car in the driveway.
So today, let’s just ponder a bit and think about how blessed we are to have what we have – and let’s take a minute to pray for those who have lost so very much.
Blessings!
Heather

Hi Heather. I’ve seen images on the news from Texas, it is awful! Thoughts and prayers definitely with everyone affected. I grew up in Northern Australia where cyclones are a regular summer event, so definite empathy for those in cyclone areas.
We have had a beautiful weekend weather wise- a hint of warmth, before the temperatures plummet again for the rest of the week! Still… thankful for a warm, dry house!
Blessings:)

Hi Heather. Thoughts and prayers are with the people of Texas. Unfortunately the news coverage is already slowing down, but their recover process will be long. Having lost everything in a house fire – house, possessions, clothes, mementos, and a car, I understand having to deal with insurance companies and the lengthly rebuilding process. But we were one house, nobody else was affected. Just can’t imagine, the whole neighborhood – relatives & friends, stores, schools and churches. My heart goes out to communities and the people, especially the children.
In Michigan fall is in the air. Have been enjoying the cooler temperatures by sitting and eating on the deck. Playing outdoors with the grandchildren. Taking walks. Happy Labor Day weekend. Best wishes.

It’s usually warm in California at the beginning of Sept., but this year it’s been just plain HOT. Last night when we went to bed at 10:30 pm it was still in the high 80’s outside! This morning when we got up, it was 71 outside. Thankfully it’s supposed to start cooling off, and our natural air conditioning – the coastal fog – is supposed to return.

Hope you have a great weekend. you are so right about complaining. Perspective is always good to remind ourselves, that we are not the center of the universe. thanks for sharing

Prayers for those in Texas, and also for those STILL affected by wildfires in British Columbia. While danger has passed for some, other areas are now evacuated. Temperatures are unseasonably high (high 80s, low 90s Fahrenheit) although it is cooling off nicely at night.

Loved your post! It really does help to stop and think about what others are going through, when we start complaining (or just thinking) about how we wished OUR situation would change. Our leaves are falling from some of the trees, along with the walnuts, and our evenings are cooler, so change is in the air. Hope you are having a restful day!

I’ve seen so many positive things happening in spite of Hurricane Harvey, so many people helping neighbors and friends. So many places around the US that are coming together to send aid….it just amazes me! Like Mr. Rogers used to say “Look for the helpers” :-)
I’m so ready for Fall here too. I live on the Oregon coast and this year the end of August and beginning days of September have been so HOT for our area. We normally don’t get the kind of heat here that we’ve been getting (upper 80’s). I know that doesn’t seem like hot to a lot of the country, but when you have no A/C and you’re not used to it, it can be miserable. I grew up in Illinois but at least we had central air to keep cool :-) I’m definitely can’t wait for cooler weather.
Happy SONday everyone, here’s to a great week!

I can’t imagine what the situation in Texas is like for so many people right now. I was at a family reunion in Ohio this past weekend and we were hoping to spend Saturday at a park but couldn’t because of the remnants of Harvey that were coming through. But we were definitely aware that we didn’t have anything to complain about.
