After a few days entertaining ourselves along the coast, we caught a water taxi to Homfray Lodge, a 90-minute boat ride up into an area called Desolation Sound. It is aptly named — far from “civilization” for sure! We shared the lodge with an older couple from Denmark, Erica Terpstra and her Dutch film crew (who knows, we might be in the background in their BC episode coming up!), a pair of honeymooners, a vacationing chef and his wife, and the lodge staff.
Four harbor seals were hanging out on the dock early the morning after we arrived!

Hi Valerie:) Homfray Lodge looks stunning! Desolation Sound has been added to my list of places to visit- definitely my kind of place (away from crowds and chaos!!!) We had a beautiful sunny day today- still a cool wind, but we were able to get out to our favourite mountain bike place for the first time in months which was awesome:) In another couple of weeks it should be warm enough to start planting our summer garden so we are beginning to get things ready.
Blessings:)

Hi Valerie! What a peaceful beautiful setting filled with God’s wonderful creation. Reminds me of my cruise as a young adult on Lake Winnipeg up to Norway House. Fall temperatures are finally in the air. Last week Monday it was in the upper 70s (21+ Celsius). This morning the temperature was 38 (3 degrees Celsius). The leaves are changing color. Farmers are harvesting the last apples, grapes, and pumpkins. Lake Michigan has taken on it fall hue of grayish blue with waves. After a rainy week, yesterday was sunny and in the 50s (10 Degrees Celsius) and great to see a crowd at our neighborhood pumpkin patch and area corn mazes. Best wishes.

Homfray Lodge with a family would be best in July or August, I think. Although some guests took the kayaks and paddleboards out, the water was really too cold in late September! There isn’t much for hiking as the terrain is too steep. Very peaceful, which means not a lot of activity!!!
