The waters of Desolation Sound are very sheltered, which results in nearly glassy reflections and utmost peacefulness. The only manmade sounds were the lodge boats coming and going and the generator kicking in in the background. Otherwise, we chatted with the other guests and listened to the calls of loons, ducks, and geese, watched fish jump — none jumped onto hubby’s line, but it wasn’t for lack of trying! — and the dips of kayak paddles. Absolute serenity.

Hi Valerie, that water looks like glass- perfect to be out enjoying:) I had to look up the loon- it’s sound is haunting, it reminded me of what I imagine a wolf sounds like?! Our magpie sounds very different to a loon!!
Blessings:)

Hi Valerie! Your description is poetic and the pictures reflect the peacefulness and beauty. Thanks for sharing a bit of heaven. What a contrast to the gusting winds, hurling leaves and limbs, freezing hail and rain we had yesterday. Quite a fall storm. Waves on the lake were over 10 feet tall. Best wishes.

Looks absolutely serene! Thanks for sharing!!

Aw, thank YOU for popping by!!!
Valerie Comer says
I was expecting the peacefulness and quiet. I wasn’t expecting the ocean to be so still! I hadn’t thought of comparing a loon’s cry to that of a wolf, but both do have a haunting, mournful sound. I haven’t heard wolves nearly as often. Where we live, coyotes are a typical night time sound with their yipping and yapping.
Valerie Comer says
Wow, sounds like quite a storm!!! We get those sometimes, too, but our lake is much smaller than yours, so the waves aren’t that massive. Right now we are having foggy mornings, clear blue skies, and vivid foliage as the aspens, mountain ash, maples, sumac, and larch turn color. The weather is gorgeous — and typical — for late October. Good thing as we are in the midst of a large water-line digging project!
Valerie Comer says
It definitely was! And you’re welcome.
