Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
In keeping with our Ireland theme for Sundays in March, today we’re going to visit the Cliffs of Moher. I’m not sure you can visit Ireland and not see them. (I mean, I know you can, because we didn’t visit them on our first trip and no one said boo about it. But really, they’re iconic.)
I was super surprised to realize there’s a castle there on the cliffs. A little research, however, and you come to find out it’s not some unsacked gem from the time of Cromwell. Nope, it was built in 19th century for tourists. It’s still beautiful.
Here are the cliffs in all their glory. We had a lovely, sunny day on our visit, though the wind when you’re there is something. And the rock itself is quite lovely if you zoom in and really look at the various layers of sediment that made the cliffs. God has an amazingly creative mind.
Skimming through my pictures for this post made me glad that we’ll have corned beef and cabbage for lunch when we get home from church today. Do you do anything to celebrate St. Patrick’s day?

I don’t do much other than remember Alex, a guy I went to high school with and even dated a bit our senior year who lost his life to a drunk driver when we were 22.

Hi Elizabeth, wow, those cliffs are amazing- the layers in the rock are so interesting. I agree, God certainly is creative:) We love rocks- both sons have a rock collection and we enjoy looking for interesting rocks when we are out.
We don’t celebrate St Patrick’s Day- it kind of creeps up each year and we don’t remember until the actual day.
Blessings:)

Ohh, I’m so sorry. That’s awful. Hugs.

It’s an easy holiday to forget. If everyone in my family didn’t look forward to corned beef and cabbage, I might forget too :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Sigh. If you go can I come? ;)

Hi Elizabeth! Beautiful pictures of the Emerald Island. I enjoy looking at rock formations. Took a geology class in college. My youngest son collected rocks. This German gal is wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day – so I do not get pinched by my husband. Enjoy your Sunday. Hope it is sunny and warm. Another cold and overcast day in Michigan. Blessings.
Brenda Day says
Beautiful pictures thanks for sharing them. We celebrate St. Patty’s day every year as it’s my birthday .
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I had geology in high school – rocks can be so interesting

My mother’s father came to the US from Ireland, and several of his siblings and their families stayed there. So even though I’m only about a quarter Irish, I do love St. Patrick’s Day. We had a small party, made corned beef and cabbage and Sidney bread, and had lots of green. I would love to visit the family in Galway, and I have always heard rave reviews on the Cliffs of Moher. Thanks for sharing your photos!

My husband and mom get “Shamrock Shakes” from McD’s every year to celebrate! (I don’t like mint or I would join them. :))
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Too funny. Hubby and I were saying the other day how we wished they were still as tasty as we thought they were in high school :)
Dianna says
Those cliffs and castle are so beautiful. I’ve never been to Ireland.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
They really are amazing. The pictures are good, but in person they’re simply breathtaking.
Ausjenny says
I don’t celebrate St Pats day at all. I was actually sick yesterday. I did have an Irish Uncle that I didn’t meet and my Cousin married an Irish Girl. Both their girls have Irish names.
We actually have Irish ancestry as Mum’s Father’s grandparents fled Ireland during the Potato famine and moved to Scotland then to Australia.
I love the photos.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love knowing little bits if family history like that – it’s so interesting! Hope you’re feeling better!
SARAH TAYLOR says
