Today is our last Sunday in San Antonio! The final mission, Mission Espada, was the fastest of our visits. I think there were two reasons for that:
-
-
- The boys were getting a little tired of missions,
- It was the smallest.
-
But it had the gorgeous tree you see in the header image. There were a lot of beautiful old trees in San Antonio – I’m not sure what kind they were, but their twisty trunks were so fun to look at.
I mentioned last week that after the missions and lunch, we hit up the botanical gardens. So there’ll be a few more photos from that below. Before we left for home, we took the riverboat ride through the river walk area. It was well worth the price of admission and a fun and fascinating dive into San Antonio history. Sadly, all my photos from that have my kiddos in them, so I can’t share them with you.

I love the sound of “Crested Wortelberry”–it sounds very British to me!
Happy Sunday, Elizabeth!

Doesn’t it? :)
Happy Sunday to you as well!

You’re welcome! Sometimes traveling via the Internet is more relaxing than really going.
Renate says
Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for sharing your vacation pics. At my age not sure I will make it to Texas. Still lots to see in the Midwest. Thanks for posting the July Back List Book Club selections. Downloaded and looking forward to getting to know Jaycee Weaver better. Best wishes to all during the upcoming holiday week. Beautiful day in SW Michigan.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
There is always more to see locally here as well! Sometimes I wonder if we’ll even get to half of it.
I’ve enjoyed Jaycees books as well – always love finding new authors!

The botanical gardens were so much fun and it was great to see plants that we don’t run into on the east coast.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Isnt it fun?

I have always heard that the Riverwalk in San Antonio is a neat place to visit. And a boat ride sounds like a lot of fun!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
It really is lovely – so many shops and restaurants! The boat ride is super fun.
Ausjenny says
The boat ride sounds fun. I have been on a few river cruises in different places I have visited. (Mainly Australia). Trying to think if I did one in America or Canada. In Canada I did go on Maid of the Mist at the Niagara Falls. Its a good way to see the area.
I have enjoyed your journey.
SARAH TAYLOR says
Thank you for sharing your pictures enjoyed so much!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
This was probably not as fancy as a “river cruise” – it was a tiny, open air boat that traveled the canals for maybe an hour? But it was still a lot of fun.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Thanks for tagging along with me!
Narelle Atkins says
Hi Elizabeth, Those plant photos are amazingly weird, lol. And Riverwalk is pretty! Thanks for sharing. :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Aren’t they so fun and funky?
Ausjenny says
A couple of the ones I did in Australia were like that while others were a couple of hours. I remember doing a couple in Perth Western Australia and we stopped at a few places along the way. Also did a few paddle steamers on the River Murray.
We did do a open air boat in Tasmania but it was in the wilderness which was lovely. Its nice just doing different types of tours. (Some were on longer bus tours. The Tassie one was a 8 day tour I think)
