My mom would have turned 90 today. She’s been gone for 17 years. I don’t miss her as much as I used to, but there are days that still get me. Today is usually one of them. I’d like to think she’d be proud of my family and my writing. She didn’t live to meet my youngest two children, see me write or even have an inkling of wanting to write, but she loved me a great deal, and I’m thankful she was my mom.
I think I was 16 or 17 in this picture. I’m not exactly sure. It was the last “official” picture we had taken together. We did have some taken at my wedding, but they were not professionally done (one of my biggest regrets).
Ah, okay, enough of that. How is your September moving along? We’re almost to the end. Another month past. If I calculate correctly, we have 94 days left until Christmas, and 101 days until 2020 fills our calendars. Ack! How is it possible that the years go by so fast? The older I get, the faster the days tick by. My sixth child will graduate high school in 2020, and my youngest daughter will graduate college.
I’m NOT that old! At least that’s what I keep telling myself. :D In reality, 2020 will be a significant age turning for me. My 39 and holding will have held on for eleven years. I turn the big 50, but I’m proud of my age. I’ve lived well and with few regrets, and most of those are minimal.

Hi Ginger! Thanks for sharing! Time sure flies! School is in full swing and fall is in the air. As we approach October, I also think of my mom more. Her birthday is Halloween and she would be tickled pink her great granddaughter was born in October. 2020 is also a big year for this retiree. This May I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my 39. birthday. LOL. Enjoy your week and hopefully some cooler fall weather. Best wishes.
Jackie Smith says
Thanks for your thoughts, Ginger. You have had a good life…and JUST 50! lol
I am…. hmm…older but have had a good life, too!
Trudy says
All I can say is, 50’s nothing!! I’m much closer to 60!! Age is really just a number. My Mom is 95, and I honestly don’t see that as old any more!! I remember before being a teenager, 20’s were old. Then, as a teen, 30’s were old. Now, you can be “old” at any age, if you let things get you down!! I know what you mean about your Mom, too. My Daddy passed away 23 years ago, and some days it feels like yesterday.

Age is one of those things that perception seems to change. I work with preschoolers and they always say things like, You are so old. You must be 19! Like others have said, 40 seemed so old when I was 20. Now at 60, old must be at least 10-20 years away. Ha!

I’m so glad I’m not alone in thinking that I’m not old enough for my child to be …
Ginger Solomon says
I wish fall were in the air here. We manage to get one or two cool <70 mornings this past week, but it's still in the upper 80s and lower 90s (F). It's one of the hottest Septembers I can ever remember.
Ginger Solomon says
God has BLESSED me beyond measure, for sure and for certain.
Ginger Solomon says
Age really is just a number. I see some very old looking teenagers. The worries of this life have worn them down. I’m so thankful I have Jesus. I’m not sure how I would survive without Him.
Ginger Solomon says
I agree. I’ve already told my kids that I’m never getting “old” even if I FEEL like it sometimes.
Ginger Solomon says
Thanks, Sarah.
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
It’s hard for me to believe I’ll be 65 in December. How can that be when I still feel young. Blessings
Trudy says
I agree!! Things are so very different now than when I was growing up. I don’t see how people get by without God. I love the song “I Can’t Even Walk” as it says what I feel!
Ginger Solomon says
Exactly.
