February — the month of love! Sometimes we forget that love isn’t only romantic, so this month let’s talk about four of the varieties of love as set out in C.S. Lewis’s book, The Four Loves.
This week? Storge, an empathy bond, aka familial affection. According to Wikipedia…
Storge is liking someone through the fondness of familiarity, family members or people who relate in familiar ways that have otherwise found themselves bonded by chance. An example is the natural love and affection of a parent for their child. It is described as the most natural, emotive, and widely diffused of loves… [Lewis] considered it responsible for 9⁄10ths of all solid and lasting human happiness…
What other bonds or relationships fit under the umbrella of storge love?

Hi Valerie! Looking forward to you Sunday reviews on love. Delightful picture of you with you granddaughters. Making the memories. It is flu season in SW Michigan. Two schools closed last week because of illness. Son, hubby, granddaughter and last night it hit me. Tea and bed rest. Stay healthy, warm and safe. Best wishes.
Paula Marie says
I am excited about this months theme, Valerie! You look adorable surrounded by the grandgirls!
Valerie Comer says
I’m sorry to hear you’ve caught the flu bug and that it’s so bad in your part of Michigan! Take care. Both my kids’ families have been suffering the past week or two, but so far, I’m healthy!
Valerie Comer says
Aw, thanks! We had a fun little photo shoot last spring, but The Toddler came at the kissing on her own timeframe LOL.
Lincoln says
Yay! I’ve been a fan of the Four Loves since college days (in the last millennium). Looking forward to it.
Valerie Comer says
Thanks :)

Love the pic of you and your grandgirls! There are 10 grands in my family, and 13 great-grands so far! The 10 grands are 6 boys and 4 girls. The greats are 6 boys and 7 girls. I don’t have any children, all are my nieces and nephews.
Valerie Comer says
Nieces and nephews and their littles totally count! My one niece’s boys called us Gruncle and Grauntie when they were little, and our grandgirls consider them “full” cousins. None of that second cousin stuff for those boys LOL.
Priscila says
You’re so cute with grandkids. My parents were visiting us over the weekend and I enjoyed seeing how much my kids love them really love them so much. It’s beautiful to see so much happiness in everyone’s faces. And it’s funny because we see them 2-3 times a week (sometimes 4) but we’ve been on vacation for 6 days, but it felt like they hadn’t seen each other for weeks. So beautiful.
Valerie Comer says
I get it, Priscila! The one on the far right of the photo lives next door, so I see her several times a week, but when we or they have been away, it seems forever!
Ausjenny says
I wonder if the love for a pet would qualify. I know I love my two babies (Henry and Libby) even when they are being brats.
I still cant believe its Feb.
Valerie Comer says
Hi Jenny! Yes, I’d say this would be the category where our beloved pets would fit. This or maybe next week’s – philos. Now I’m wondering which, too!
