Has it been rainy where you are?
Northern Virginia seems to embody the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” (And of course, I have to finish in my head, “What do Mayflowers bring? Pilgrims!” Because I love a good dad joke.)
We’ve had afternoon storms a lot lately. Combine this with all the tree pollen that’s going crazy and I have been “enjoying” almost daily afternoon headaches that creep closer and closer to migraine land.
Usually I can head them off — at least enough to keep them from being terrible — but it’s still annoying and disruptive to life.
And it contributes to everything feeling a little heavier than it should. Do you feel that way? That life is heavy right now?
There’s other stuff going on in my life right now that’s contributing to the heaviness – so it might just be me. But the dark skies and pressure in the air aren’t helping.
If you’re feeling the heaviness, I hope you’ll be able to look for rainbows. I try to remind myself to do that–but I also know it’s hard when the dark clouds are more obvious.
Share a rainbow from this week, if you’ve got one. And if you don’t? How about your favorite dad joke?

I finished the Taste of Romance series and loved it! :-) Someone does fun, cheerful chalk art on our driveway. Croissants from my favorite eatery.

Oh what lovely rainbows! (And an extra one for me, thanks! ;) )
My boys are not into the sidewalk chalk, and they tend to laugh at my drawings. :)
Valerie Comer says
My “rainbow” today is that a few tiny seelings are already poking up in the veggie garden we planted less than a week ago! Also we had a real rainbow a couple of days ago — the weather has been rolling storms and sunshine, which tends to bring those :)
Lila Diller says
I, too, have had a heavy week. Not because of allergies, though I always have a little to make spring a less-than-perfect season. But my heaviness is due more to the disappointments in my writing career — yes, more than one just this week — and personal conflict in two of my relationships.
Whenever the sun comes out, I’m able to bear it better. So today after a wet and gloomy yesterday, it’s already better because of the sunshine. But another “rainbow” is Christian music. It helps me remember eternity and where my hope is — Jesus alone. “In this world, you will have tribulation, but take heart; for I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, Lila’s paraphrase). :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh yay! Seedlings are always fun. :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Hugs.
And yes! Christian music is definitely a lift (all music for me, to be honest. Singing along is a lift for my spirit).

I was needing a haircut just before the lockdown started, and hadn’t gotten around to it. Normally, once I realize I need a haircut, every other time I wash it, it looks really awful. This time, every time I wash it, my hair has continued to look nice!!

The storms have cleared to a beautiful clear, chilly autumn day here, but thankfully no pollen for another six months! Actually preparing to go out and return on a high pollen count spring day has made it much easier for me to cope with covid-19, the only difference is not wearing a hat, but the covering up, clothes in washing machine and immediate showering are common practice here to keep my allergic asthma/hayfever under control.
Trudy says
I’m on the Space Coast of FL, and we finally received rain this week!! All of Central Florida is in a deficit, but we brought that up this week! We’re still behind for the year, but not as bad. We were in drought conditions, but not bad enough to have to worry about fires. We have lots of pollen, too, but the rains have helped with that.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
It has been a super rainy spring on the east coast!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay for nice hair! (Mine is definitely overdue for a cut. But it’s not awful.)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yes! We do have similar pollen protocol in place here for high pollen days.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Rain is a good thing for sure when there’s been a deficit! I’m glad y’all are making up list water.
Lincoln says
The curious thing about rainbows is when they show up. It still has to be raining, at least nearby and the sun has to be low enough to peek under the clouds. That means that
ATTENTION
We interrupt this documentary on weather phenomena to recognized that this post is talking about metaphorical rainbows, such as happy moments in the midst of difficult circumstances. This narrator’s recent experience includes making it to the pharmacy just before they closed and having his neighbor mow his front lawn. We now return you to our original programming.
…and on very foggy days, the giraffe cannot actually see where it is going and decides to stay home.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ha. Your whole comment is a rainbow ;)
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
It has been raining relentlessly here in WV. 😩

I feel for you as I have constant head pain (which is starting to increase due to Botox treatment being delayed). humid or changeable weather always makes it worse. (my fringe/bangs got trimmed due to the pressure it was starting to cause and I can’t say its the best trim its had. note to self in a couple weeks it will look ok)
On a good note I have had a stray cat beautiful Russian Blue that I named Bluey. He comes in the cat door (Not what it was meant for) and wants attention and food. Think he was dumped or left behind back in Nov. He use to visit people up the road but since March comes here every night. I had decided to put him in the Avery (first time he got out) and take him to the vet to be rehomed but after chatting with a friend they needed a mouser to live in the hay shed. (They will still feed it each day as well). They collected Bluey last night and ironically Friends husband picked him up and he cuddled into him. (They are considering naming him Blake!) He will be happy. It’s my feel good story for the day.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ugh. But flowers or something – I mean we do need rain :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh man, I’m sorry your treatment is being held off because of all this madness. :(
But yay for Bluey/Blake! I love that he found a home where he’ll be useful and loved.
Ausjenny says
me too Libby came up and sniffed him and seemed to be ok then ran and hid. But compared to the other stray that is nasty it was a good intro. I had him locked in the back of the house cos I knew they were coming straight away. It also meant I could sleep without all the inside doors shut.
denise says
Raining in Central Maryland, too.

My rainbow – after a very slow (& typical) spring start, this past week it finally warmed up enough to be outside. We went on a bike ride over the Wkend & it was wonderful getting back outside. I have a few pots of pansies/violas on my deck (paid for on-line, with curbside pick-up) and it feels like spring. I’m thrilled. :D
