Kootenay Lake is the heart of the Canadian Kootenay region, which I’ve been showcasing on Sundays in June. If you’ve known me for a while, you may recall that we’ve had some bad forest-fire summers. This photo was taken during fire season in 2018. Fires do a lot of damage and negatively impact the air quality, but they do make for beautiful sunsets!

Kootenay Lake is about 90 miles long and has quite a few beaches. Some are sandy but many are rocks/gravel. The lake features the longest free ferry ride in the world, great fishing, and (of course) we like kayaking on it and camping beside it!

Once again, I’m off camping this weekend and won’t be around to reply to comments until Sunday night or maybe even Monday — I’m living dangerously without a solid plan!
Renate says
Hi Valerie! Enjoy your weekend away. Love comment living dangerously – life without a plan. Sounds like retirement and add the pandemic. Makes for an interesting mix. Thanks for letting this retiree escape the USA into the beauty of peaceful and serene British Columbian woods. No mosquitoes, I hope? Love the tumbling creek, reminds of the beautiful Smokey Mountains of Eastern Tennessee.
Congratulations on your new release Lavished with Lavender. The title alone presents a calm during this unusual time. “Life a contestant rollercoaster of bad and good. Rain and sunshine. Sadness and joy. Into each life some rain must fall; some days must be dark and dreary.” Best wishes.

Love these pics, very calming place to visit, even virtually 😊

Enjoy your weekend!! I’ve always wanted to go to Canada, so now Kootenay Bay is on my bucket list, too!! I’ve heard there’s a train you can take across Canada, but I’ve never known anyone who has gone on it. I think that would be fun, too!!!
Mary says
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. Have a great camping trip.
Trixi says
I love that tumbling creek picture! I can just imagine someone fly fishing in it & catching shimmering rainbow trout or something, that’s something I’ve always wanted to learn how to do. I’ve always found being by the water relaxing, even if it’s water tumbling over rocks, there’s something lyrical about it :-)
I hope you enjoy your time camping Valerie! What a great way to spend these summer days in the fresh air and sunshine.

Once again, that title image is magnificent! I grew up in a very rural area of upstate New York in the US, so the rolling creek is a familiar image for me. However, the low hills and river valleys of my youth lack a good bit of the grandeur of the mountains around the lake that you have been sharing this month. Thanks again for the visual treat!

Congratulations to the winners!
Valerie Comer says
Thanks Renate! Very few mosquitoes, but the no-see-ums were out in full force, and I am reacting badly to them this year. Nothing beyond the help of an antihistamine, but definitely more than annoying! Still worth being out there….
Valerie Comer says
Thank you, Paula! I agree with the calming…
Valerie Comer says
Hi Trudy! I’d love to do that train ride, also! I’ve never been on a passenger train. Some day…
Valerie Comer says
Thanks, Mary! We did.

Hi Trixi! My hubby enjoys flyflishing. Thankfully he also loves cooking it, and I love eating it! Yes, we are sure enjoying out camping time this summer. :)

Hi Lincoln! I grew up in the flat-lands of Manitoba, and I love my adopted homeland further west!

Thanks, Denise!
