One weekend in June, we went camping with our kids and their families. This little squirrel was very busy hauling supplies up this tree. Our old dog watched for a while but he was more interested in what the grandgirls were doing!

One of the great things about camping at this spot is the pond. That’s the three bigger grandgirls and me paddling around. The weather was pretty good and we got lots of time in our kayaks.

Its hard to think of the nice weather for camping when it’s cold here. its under 8c now it is 6.30pm but its cold. It looks like you had a good time.
Dianne says
How much fun for you, how wonderful to be able to spend time with your family again.
Paula Marie says
They look like they had a ball!! Would you believe I have never had a s’more?? Of course, I am not a camper either🤣!
Valerie Comer says
You can see by the girls’ pants and hoodies that it wasn’t exactly blistering hot here that weekend, either. The pond was shallow enough not to be too cold, but I wasn’t overheated or tempted to swim!
Valerie Comer says
It was amazing! We’re still limiting time in close quarters, but this was delightful.
Valerie Comer says
I’m not sure what to say to someone who’s never had a s’more! Although I’m not a huge fan – I’ve never loved marshmallows in any guise, and now that I’m sugar-free, there’s not much about a s’more that appeals to me, other than watching the littles have a great time around the campfire.
Trudy says
Looks like some great memories are being made!! Also, what a pretty spot to be in!! I know my nieces and nephews, and now the great nieces and nephews, will go swimming in the pool at Thanksgiving (and/or to the beach) just because they can! When it’s really too cold to be in the pool, they’ll go in and then turn the hot water on for the outside shower to warm up before wrapping up in towels to come inside!
Valerie Comer says
Yes, I have sometimes observed that kids seem to have no nerve endings before puberty. Or possibly no sense, since I’ve seen them with blue lips, shivering, and insisting they’re not too cold to play in the water!
Paula Shreckhise says
So glad you could camp as a family. Making memories!
Valerie Comer says
For sure! We try to do it at least once a summer It’s amazingly difficult to merge three households’ schedules!
Lincoln says
Camping: verb, the act of sleeping on rocks while surrounded by trees and mosquitoes and consuming heated marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers without creating forest fires.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures, once again!
Valerie Comer says
Well… you’re not entirely wrong, LOL. And yet it’s still fun. We did the tent thing all the years while our kids were growing up. They think we’ve gone soft in our old age with the travel trailer. For me, it is all about the bed. If I get a decent sleep, I can handle just about anything. The fridge is the second best thing. Indoor plumbing comes third. And we just love being in nature so much the bugs are worth it.
Trudy says
Oh, yes!! We’ll be telling them it’s too cold, and they say no! It’s not bad in the water when you get used to it, but then when you get out! And, with FL, it’s usually windy when it’s cold, too!! Still, there’s great memories for all of you there, too!
Valerie Comer says
It’s all about the memories and time together, for sure.
Trixi says
What fun you guys are having! You’re exactly right, what would camping be without s’mores? Though none for me, thank you. I’m a strange one who doesn’t like marshmallows or melted chocolate over graham crackers. The rest of my family loves s’mores so that makes up for it, lol!
I’m loving your pictures Valerie and sharing all your adventures with us. Thank you!
Happy SONday everyone!
Valerie Comer says
I’m not a huge s’mores fan myself, but somehow they’re a staple, anyway! I’ll just eat the chocolate, which works for me.
Trixi says
LOL, same with me! I’ll just eat the chocolate bar. I do love roasting hot dogs over the fire though! Now there’s a camping staple!
Valerie Comer says
Yes, for sure! We often have sausages for the adults and hot dogs for the kids.
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
Fun times. Blessings
Valerie Comer says
Thank you! Blessed indeed.
Alicia Haney says
Wow, how nice, I am so happy for you, I bet you all had a lot of fun! My kind of camping is to stay in a cabin. I will stay in a tent for a day or 2 days at the most. About 3 yrs ago my husband and I took our 9 yr old grandson camping in a tent, and he loved it. It is always so much fun for little ones, and it really makes my day to see them happy and enjoying camping. When are 2 now grown children were little we would take them camping once or twice a year and they loved it, it was a lot of fun.
Valerie Comer says
The best part is being out in nature! That makes it all worthwhile.
denise says
I want some s’mores, now.
Valerie Comer says
Go for it! The grandgirls ate all ours. :P
