In keeping with our theme of “new” for January, let’s consider Ezekiel 36:26: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
That heart of flesh is what allows us to love, to feel compassion and… well, feel anything at all! A heart of stone may endure for all time, but for what purpose? Just to sit there and be hard? No, I’ll take a heart of flesh. It may be more temporary… except it isn’t! It will actually last longer because it can adore God through all eternity.

I have a book by Jane Orcutt based on this verse. In the book, the heroine feels her heart has turned to stone because of circumstances in her life. Through falling for the hero, her heart of stone turns back into a heart of flesh, and she starts living life again. What a great reminder that God will always see us through!

Happy Sunday Valerie! I love the scripture and picture to go with it. My husband and I look for heart shaped rocks or shells whenever we go to the beach. It’s almost like a representation of our love. I’ve even found heart shaped potato chips in the bag, lol!
