Happy March!
The year is marching on. Or something. I have a pocketful of bad March jokes, but I think I’ll just leave them in my pocket for a bit longer.
You’re welcome.
We’re seeing glimmers of false spring here in the Metro DC area. I’m calling it false spring solely because I know we usually get at least one more handful of chilly days before spring sets in for real. But my mind is already drifting to the azaleas I want to plant in front of the house to replace the rose bushes that died. And thinking of the pre-emergent weed and bug stuff that needs to go on the lawn. And also that we need to buy a lawnmower since we’ve decided to let the teenager handle mowing this year instead of the garden center.
All good things.
It’s also the last week of our Birthday Bash here on the blog! Make sure you get your comments in.

Autumn has just peeked in early some mornings.

Hi Elizabeth! In Michigan we are also having fake spring. Yesterday somebody posted a meme about the 13 seasons of Michigan. Even though there is still a northern nip in the air and ice balls on Lake Michigan, spring is in the air. The days are longer and the sun is stronger. Slowly the snow is melting, which we prefer – no flooding that way. We finally have green areas. Looking for April Flowers – crocuses, daffodils which bring tulips and then lilac. March came in like a lamb, so hoping it doesn’t go out as a lion. Best wishes to all.
Melynda says
I cannot wait until warmer weather! We’re having more sunshine now, and I’m so thankful for that, but temps are still on the cold side.
Patty says
Here in South Carolina, we’re probably a little further along than you as far as the spring weather. I’m enjoying seeing all the flowers starting to bloom. It’s supposed to be around 60° today and low 70s most of this coming week. I’ll take it!
Ellie says
I love how the sunlight shines in the house on spring mornings. It’s so cheerful!
Lori R says
I am thinking I need to get the leaves out of my flower beds and pick up sticks that have fallen on the ground from the wind. I also need to put my shovel back in the garage, Lol
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay for autumn! It’s the best :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Slow melt is definitely good if it means no flooding! We’ve had lion-y winds here, I’m saying they brought the splash of warm with them.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Sunshine is a good start though!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ooh. Yes you’re a bit ahead! Although Wednesday and Thursday we’re supposed to hit 71.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love the brighter morning too! Of course, daylight savings is just around the corner too.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ha. There are always chores to do!
Trudy says
In Florida, we’ve already had days in the upper 80’s. We’ll soon have high’s in the 90’s with them feeling like the 100’s with the heat index factored in. I’m enjoying this week, where we’re to have high’s in the 70’s (after a high of only about 69 today) and by next weekend, the low 80’s.
Lila says
Thank you for refraining from any more “March” jokes. lol
I don’t garden — I have such a black thumb! — but I love finding “wildflowers” in my yard. This week we found the first violets and the tiny white flowers I never know the name of. I’m trying to get my audiobook recorded before the neighbors start mowing their lawns again. ;)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh man. I’m definitely not ready for that!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I have a black thumb too. I keep trying though.
Angeline says
I can wait for the flowers to bloom, 1 because they look pretty but 2 because of my allergies.
Also I emailed the prize, but I don’t know if I did it right 😅 I had tried to use that email before and it didn’t work.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
My allergies have already kicked into gear. Good times.
Heather should be in touch if she hasn’t already. I’ll check with her.
SARAH TAYLOR says
Hello and Happy Spring Y’all of course I can’t wait for Spring to get here love the blooms of the flowers and trees and the fresh air ! And I Love daylight savings time because then it stays daylight longer! Have a Blessed Day!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Since I have a child who looks for any excuse not to sleep, I don’t love the longer daylight hours. But I’ll survive. I always do.
Megan says
Our hyacinths are slowly peeking up from the ground. Its always fun to seem them pop up.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh I love those 😍
Paula Marie says
I love spring!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay!
Trixi says
I just started seeing the purple crocuses peeping up from the ground this week along with daffodils. Though I have yet to hear the peeper frogs at night, that definitely would tell me it’s truly Spring. Though on the Oregon coast, that’s a rather loose term, lol! Our weather can be unpredictable this time of year too.
Congrats to the winners this week! Happy blessed Sunday everyone!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love crocuses!
Debra J Pruss says
Congratulations to all the winners. Have a marvelous week. God bless you.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Thanks! You too!
Trudy says
Yeah, my either!! I’d much rather have the temps we’re having this week!! I’ll just live in the moment! Florida does Winter and Summer, we really don’t have Spring! And, I’m not crazy about time change, either!
Alicia Haney says
First of all Thank you so very much for the gift card, I received it, and Thank you all for the congrats. Here in west Texas our little grape Hyacinths are blooming away and also our reg Hyacinths in white, yellow , pink and purple are blooming and smelling so very nice! I am so looking forward to Spring, but I am not yet planting any plants, like you said there is usually another cold spell over here also, we have gotten snow on Easter before, so my planting days will have to be after Easter, which will be here before we know it, as fast as the days are passing us by. Have a Great week and stay safe. God Bless you all.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love grape hyacinth. They were one of my mom’s favorite.
denise says
Congratulations to the winners!
My weather is basically the same is yours–just a little north of you near Baltimore.
Jessica B. says
This weekend we had highs in the mid to upper 40’s but this coming week we are supposed to have temps in the 60’s in Ohio. I’m starting to think about changing over some wardrobe pieces and have even put away a couple of things already. I’m definitely ready to be wearing fewer layers.
Natalya Lakhno says
Everything is in bloom! Yay!
Have a blessed Sunday <3
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Basically all part of the DMV. :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay for fewer layers! I’m looking forward to shorts weather (although it’s a ways off still) as it means my boys legs can stretch all they want and I won’t need to buy new clothes :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay for blooms!
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
Sunny, cool, and breezy, but the snow has melted and the daffodils are coming up.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay for daffodils! They’re so friendly.
Marilene says
the weather here is a little bit chilly, but I feel that the spring is in the air!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love that little taste in the air that says spring is coming.
Sandra says
Certainly no flowers bloominh here yet, but the sun is shining and will melt some snow.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Sunshine is a good start!
Lincoln says
Our little volunteer army of purple crocuses has popped up for duty all across our little front yard. My mom used to have a whole wall of daffodils in her back yard and hyacinths in a small garden under the kitchen window. I miss those. The only other perennials we have are irises and it will be a while before they show up. Congratulations to the winners and blessings for the week to come!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I love crocuses. Ours are always short-lived, either owing to rabbits or small boys who pick them for mom. I can’t get too upset.
Priscila Perales says
Spring weather sounds wonderful, enjoy!
We’re heading into Fall weather over here, so while I look forward to sweater weather, at the same time I’m gonna enjoy those last sunfilled days :)
