It’s Pie Day!
If you’re unfamiliar (although, it’s not as nerdy a day as it used to be) – it’s 3.14, which is the first two digits of the numerical coefficient, Pi.
And of course, you celebrate by eating pie. (And if you feel like calculating the circumference or area while you’re at it, you’re certainly welcome to do so!)
It’s my plan to have some sort of pie for my kids today, especially as the oldest is in algebra this year, and so doing quite a lot with pi during our homeschool times.

Mary Preston says
I do like mulberry pie.
Ellie says
Thanks for the reminder that it’s Pie Day! I actually don’t like pie of any kind, but give me cake or cookies any day. :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ooh. That’s not one I’ve had. I’ll have to see if I can try it sometime.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I am not a huge pie fan myself, but there are a few types I enjoy (lemon meringue, chocolate cream).
Trudy says
I like apple pie, chocolate pie, peach pie, and more! Any excuse to eat pie is good! Though I’ll admit, I’d rather have cake!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
There ought to be a cake day.
Paula Marie says
Lol, I don’t do math, but I do love pie! Have fun today!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Thanks! You too :)
Lincoln says
Ok, I’m a math nerd. If there were cards to carry, I would have one. Since it is, strictly speaking, Pi Day, the meal simply needs to be round. Pie qualifies but so does something cooked in a crockpot. :P I enjoy apple and cherry pie and lemon meringue if it is made by one of our friends from church (best I’ve ever had, hands down). We’re planning on pizza for lunch, round cookies and maybe some round birthday cake (mine was yesterday and my age is now the second of a prime pair. Talk about nerdy!)
Congratulations to our winners! Looking forward to the birthday results, too!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yay! Another math nerd! And you are correct – round (or spherical would also work) is all that’s required. It doesn’t have to be actual pie. (I also call quiche egg pie to get my kids to eat it so pie can be what you make it.)
Happy belated birthday!
Valerie Comer says
Mmm, quiche followed by chicken pot pie followed by pumpkin pie! None of which I will have today, sadly.
Also, it’s a good thing you’re the March Sunday Edition host, because I would totally have missed this opportunity to talk about pie!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Mmm. Pumpkin pie.
And we all have our strengths – mine is nerdy facts ;)
Alicia Haney says
I’m not very good at math at all, my husband my 2 now grown children with little families of their own are pretty good at it though, and so are my 3 grandchildren. My favorite kind of pie is Peach Pie. Have a Great week and stay safe. God Bless you and your family. Congratulations to all the winners.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh! Peach pie! How did I forget about peach pie?? Yum!
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
I just took an apple pie out of the oven before I saw this post. I came home from church and made crust and I had the filling home canned and voila.
Trixi says
I forgot about Pi day!! I’ll have to see if I can convince my husband to pick up a pie from the grocery store :-) My favorites are the fruit pies, yum!
Math was never my strong suit in school….beyond basic math that is. I even struggled with simple fractions. I don’t know how I made it through Algebra with decent grades, lol! It may have something to do with the teacher, he was always patient & helpful and I think that made a difference. Plus, my dad was a math whiz so he helped with the homework.
I can’t wait to see who our winners are for the Birthday Bash, I’m sitting on pins & needles!!
Happy Sunday everyone, have a blessed Lord’s day!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yum!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I hope you get some pie!
I think good teachers make the difference in every subject.
SARAH TAYLOR says

Sandra says
I have never quite understood ‘Pi’ but now Pie is a completely different thing. Last week we had Rhubarb and Strawberry pie with vanilla ice cream…..Yummy!!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I think that’s the better pie to understand. :)
Debra J Pruss says
Congratulations to the other winners. Thank you all very well. God bless you.
Elizabeth Maddrey says

Jessica B. says
My favorite is Toll House pie. To celebrate today I made veggie pot pie for lunch and a cookie pie for dessert.
denise says

Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oooh, those sound good.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ha – pizza is definitely a pie! :)
Natalya Lakhno says
I love all of them, especially Blackberry Sour Cream :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh man, that sounds amazing and I’ve never had it. But now I want to. I love blackberries!
Priscila Perales says
And now I want pecan pie hahaha :) enjoy your day for the ones of us that don’t celebrate it, lol.
Also, how fun that your kid understands a bit more of today’s celebration :)
Lila Diller says
I love pie! I’m not really a cake person. I would much rather have pie for my birthday. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but cherry, blueberry, and turtle pumpkin are up there.
