The Skookumchuk Narrows near Sechelt, British Columbia, are at the head of a long salt-water fjord with turbulent tidal rapids. Extreme kayakers come from around the world to play in the current at high tide. We hiked in, timing our arrival for one of the highest tides of the week, and spent a couple of hours watching the kayakers surf the rapids while we lounged around and ate our lunch!

I don’t think I could even sit in a kayak, let alone take it over white water, LOL. Thanks for the beautiful pictures, though!
Congratulations to all our winners this week!
The just shall live by faith, the Word of God and, because He is gracious, something to read on the side. :-D
I’ll take a kayak designed for placid lake water, myself!
Hurrah! I recently got another book! My lack of Christian fiction from adolescence is being remedied quickly hehe.
Yay, love it! LOL
Looks much too wild for me. It would be great to watch though.
You and me are soul sisters in this regard!
Hi Valerie! Wow! Watching the kayakers would be fantastic. The strength and agility. In picture three are those star fish (bottom center). Nice colors. Enjoy your week. Best wishes.
Yes! Starfish. They were quite a distance up the bank when we arrived, but as the tide rushed in, water was lapping at them by the time we left. I imagine the tide reached them at the height, which we didn’t stay for. There were already way too many people sitting on our rocks LOL. Seriously, at least 100-150 people hiked in 2 hours on a random Wednesday in September????
What a great show you must have had! Thanks for sharing the pics!
Watching their strength and agility was amazing!
I would like to watch, but I wouldn’t be caught doing it!! I have quite a few friends that like to kayak, though! I could go for the hiking, though!
I love kayaking… on a placid lake at dawn. NOT this kind of thing at all. :)
I’m so excited for next week’s posts
Yay! Me too.
Congratulations to all the winners! I don’t swim, so Kayaking would definitely not be for me, I would love to watch people kayaking though.
It’s fun to watch!
I have been to Sechelt but not for water sports. My friend lives in Gibsons and we went to Sechelt a couple of times. We went to a market where I got a few items and had Lunch at a lovely place on the water.
I wonder if it’s a restaurant we went to? :)
I know it had big glass windows and a great view of the ocean I think it also had outdoor seating.
That still fits quite a few of them! Ahhhhh I want to go back.
beautiful photos.
Congratulations, winners.
Thank you!
Congratulations winners. Lovely and fun looking.
It was fun to watch!
Congratulations to the winners. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
Thanks for coming!
I would like to try kayaking sometime, just not the extreme variety!
I didn’t think I would like it, because I don’t love being under water and I was afraid of being trapped. But I have a sit-on-top and I LOVE it on small, calm lakes. I adore the peacefulness.
That looks dangerously fun! I’ll leave that kind of sport up to people who know what they’re doing. :-) I’m like you Valerie, and take calm waters to kayak or canoe on.
Congrats to this weeks winners! Have a blessed week IR
Yes, this is a case of “don’t try this at home!”
Congrats everyone!! That kayaking looks fun but I won’t do it here lol
I’m not doing it here, either! LOL
WTG to the winners
Thanks!
Have a blessed week everyone!
You, too!
Beautiful pictures! I don’t think I’d want to be on those rapids, but good for you for enjoying it!
Note that we were not ON those rapids, just innocent bystanders!
