One night a week or so ago, I went outside with the dog just before bedtime, and I saw something in the night sky I don’t remember ever seeing before. To the southeast, the nearest town is just on the other side of the low ridge shown in the next photo. And coming up from the “glow” were these really strange light pillars. I turned to the north (last photo) and saw the same thing in the sky above a well-lit-up industrial site.
Ice crystals caught in the light! I was amazed to discover my phone camera captured the phenomena very much how I saw it in person. So cool! Have you ever seen anything like it?
The next morning, our entire valley was shrouded in a low-hanging fog like in the above photo. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

An amazing phenomena.
Renate says
Good Morning Valerie and Ispy Romance readers! The world is full of beautiful phenomena! Thanks for sharing. In a way I understand the science behind the beautiful you saw. Living in SW Michigan across Lake Michigan from the Windy City, on cool dry evenings we have often see in the sunset the outline of the Chicago skyline. The distance across the lake is 50 miles. About once or twice a year you can even see cars driving down Lakeshore Drive. I have seen this with binoculars from my brother’s house. Local scientists every year describe the phenomena.
I want to give a shout out to Merrille When’s January 2022 release Hometown Hero. I enjoyed the unique premise The Twelve Dogs of Christmas and learned about 6 kinds of service dogs, traveled the US with fabulous descriptions of Chicago, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Please add to the book list. Also enjoyed reading Janet Ferguson’s December release Healing Skye. Congrats to December winners. Thanks and Best wishes.

Oh, wow, how cool, in more ways than one! I’ve not seen anything like it, but of course, I’m in FL, and we don’t get frost much, much less anything like this! Congratulations to the December winners!
Valerie Comer says
Thanks and you’re welcome! :)
Valerie Comer says
Wasn’t that cool?!?!
Valerie Comer says
Thanks for the heads up that Merrillee’s link is live. Last time I checked, it wasn’t up yet! (It is up to our authors to make sure their books are on the list, though, for the record.)
And isn’t it crazy how far you can see when conditions are EXACTLY right?
Valerie Comer says
Yes, it was! The sight lingered for quite a while, though. The conditions were just right.
Valerie Comer says
Yes, there are many beauties that make up for the cold temperature :)
Laurie Larsen says
