Did you know that the geese shown in today’s image are known as Canada geese… not Canadian geese?
According to Laura Erickson, who writes on the mailing list of the Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union, the Canada goose gets its name from its breeding range. “It is of course perfectly acceptable and correct to call one a ‘Canadian goose’ if you see its passport or some other verification of its citizenship,” she adds.
Asked on Quora which is correct, Bob Edwards says: “Either could be correct. It depends if you’re talking about the species Canada Goose or one of many species of goose extant in Canada which would all be Canadian Geese.”
Now you know!

I did know this but had forgotten. I know I saw them at Stanley Park when I was there. I also remember an Canadian friend saying she doesn’t really like them.

Hi Valerie! Interesting. All I know is that the Canada Geese in SW Michigan are not happy this morning. They have been honking away since 6:30 am. After a beautiful warm and sunny Saturday, more rain is expected today. Something was upsetting them in the ravine with a creek nearby. Enjoy your Sunday.
Trudy says
I’m guessing geese are geese, no matter what name anyone calls them!! They make for some great photos!

Now that’s very interesting to hear they are called Canada geese & not Canadian geese….something I had no idea about! But it makes sense to name them after their breeding range. I see so many here where I live, they’re all over the place! We have a public park not too far from our house and every year we see several goslings wandering around with their parents. It’s SO cool! I just love seeing God’s creation :-)
Happy Sunday to the Inspy Romance community! God bless you and keep you and make His smile to shine upon you. :-)

I always thought it was funny that we had a lot of Canada geese on our neighborhood lake in Burke , Virginia, very close to Washington DC. Now that we’re n Kentucky I’ve seen very few.
Lelia “Lucy” Reynolds says
