I know most of our readers are women, but here in the US it’s Father’s Day, so I feel like it’s worth saying, “Happy Father’s Day!” I hope you get a chance to appreciate the men in your life, be they your own dad, your husband, a brother, or a good male friend.
My eldest and hubby went on an overnight backpacking trip yesterday. So I’m not sure how much they’ll be up for when they get home, but we have plans to take my dad to a local(ish) German restaurant for dinner.

Father’s day can be bittersweet.

We celebrate Father’s Day in September and now it is more a remembrance. My father wanted to be useful in death so he wanted to be fish food for the fish in Spencer Gulf. I told him his body would need to be cremated then before I fulfilled his wish. Every birthday and Father’s Day I lay a flower in the ocean in remembrance of him and our men in God’s care.

Good morning Elizabeth Maddrey. Happy Father’s Day to your hubby and your dad. This German American researched the German restaurants in your area. Wow lots of great German restaurants. Loved the kids menu on the Old Europe website. Since I was born in Berlin, another favorite was the Berlin Cafe. Yesterday I took hubby to Moser’s – an Austrian restaurant with delicious Schnitzel and homemade Spaetzle located at the Michigan / Indiana border. The chef did an amazing job. My youngest son thinks his Mutti (mom) should open a German restaurant. Working in restaurants he thinks my German dishes are outstanding. Thursday I made Spaetzle (German pasta) for a colleague’s daughters high school graduation party. Her daughter had traveled to Germany this spring for a school exchange. Enjoy your day. Best wishes.

I’ll be spending the day proofreading! I have two books, one I need to finish today and the other tomorrow. I’ll spend time thinking of my Daddy, and probably listen to some of his favorite music.

What a lovely way to remember ❤️

We definitely have good options nearby! We’re headed to the Alpine Chef as it’s the easiest to get to for us.
Spatzle is so yummy.
My paternal grandmother was a first generation American, her German Mennonite family still spoke German in the home and did her whole life. She had lots of delicious German specialties as well.

Music is such a great way to remember!

After browsing the German Restaurants in your area, I am ready for a road trip. Love the Alpine Chef’s menu. I make scrumptious Rouladen- my sons favorite. Make them for Christmas and in March for their birthdays. On the website Oma’s Way I found a quick Rouladen recipe that I make when I need German comfort food. Kassler Rippchen are another favorite. Enjoy. Excellent dessert menu. What is your favorite and since its Father’s Day – your father’s favorite. My German dad loved Rouladen – we chop our dill pickle, onion and bacon. In the Midwest not too many German restaurants have Rouladen on their menu. Also love German goulash.

Dad loves schnitzel. I do as well, but also the rouladen or sauerbraten. I never know how to choose! They’re all so yummy.

So thankful for the father I have! He us getting up there in years and it’s hard to see.
One if my favorite photos I have of us together is him walking me down the aisle on my wedding day. I didn’t get married until I was 41, and I’m sure he thought it was never going to happen.
