Happy Sunday! A highlight of the last few weeks, for those of us who are into sports and live in Commonwealth countries (like Australia), has been the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, UK. The time differences between Australia and UK resulted in most of the live action taking place overnight and in the early hours of the morning. The closing ceremony was held on Monday, and Australia did well in the medal count. The next major sporting event I’m looking forward to watching on tv is the US Tennis Open starting August 29. Our local football team may make the finals in September, but I’m not a diehard follower, and I only occasionally tune in and watch the televised games. Are you a sports fan? Do you have favorite sports that you watch live or on tv?

I enjoyed the Commonwealth games especially watching Jessica Stenson as she is a local girl who was born and raised in my town in fact lived not far from me.
I like Aussie Rules football and my team will be in the finals so that will be good.
I really love cricket. I enjoy gymnastics. swimming, hockey (as in field not ice),

When I was in junior high, I liked to watch wrestling. After I graduated from high school, I liked watching baseball. Now, I really don’t watch any sports. I do like baseball, but I can’t usually find it on channels that I get, and I refuse to pay extra just for baseball, and even then, they show more football, and I don’t like football.
Alicia Haney says
Congratulations to the winner. Good morning, I love to watch Tennis, my now adult children with little families of their own used to play tennis in junior hight and in high school, and now our grandaughter and our grandson who are my daughters, play tennis, they both played it in junior high and they are playing it now in high school. our youngest grandson just started Middle school, so he will probably be playing tennis also he likes it and my son takes him to play tennis with him. Have a great week and stay safe.

I grew up in a household where sports were always on and talked about but it took me a while to come around to being a sports fan. Now I follow baseball, NFL football, NASCAR (this was my Covid hobby, lol), figure skating, and I also love watching the olympics.
Narelle Atkins says
Hi Trudy, I do like watching baseball, probably more than football. I can understand not wanting to pay for tv. All our tv stations were free until the mid-1990’s when pay tv arrived in Australia. At the time, there was a lot of community resistance to the idea of paying for tv. Most of our major sporting events are still on free to air tv. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Narelle Atkins says
Hi Alicia, Tennis is fun. Both of my adult children played tennis when they were younger. I remember sitting in my car and writing on my laptop while they were at tennis lessons. We’ve also been to the Australian Open tennis in Melbourne. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Narelle Atkins says
Hi bn, I agree! Thanks for commenting. 😊
Narelle Atkins says
Hi Jessica, I watched a lot of sport during lockdown, too. The Olympics are fun. Thanks for commenting. 😊
