Living in the mountains of British Columbia means there are mountain passes between home and everywhere else! Just before Christmas, we headed to my sister’s place “on the other side” for our first clan Christmas in three years! There had been quite a lot of snow for several days before, and the pass was absolutely stunning in its wintry beauty.

There’s a sweet little chalet at the top of the pass with a wood stove and some picnic tables in it. The parking lot at the top is often in use for back-country skiers through the winter. We used to go sledding there when the kids were little, too. Some years there’s enough snow to toboggan off the chalet roof! There’s a path around the pond (front right corner). In summer, we sometimes stretch our legs with a little hike around it.

The pictures look so pretty!! A winter wonderland of your own!! I’m guessing four-wheel drive, snow tires, and chains are in use!

Such pretty pictures!
Is there a way to check and see if I somehow unsubscribed myself to getting emails when a post is released? I didn’t receive one yesterday or today and I’m not sure why.

I love the photos. While I was in BC in Autumn the thing I loved was the mountains. When staying with my friend in Pemberton we had mountains on all sides and looking out each day I could see the snowline slowly moving down the mountain. Not enough to actually see fresh snow but it was so beautiful. While I don’t like cold these scenes are breathtaking.
Mum always wanted to go to Canada (she never went overseas) because she had a teacher who came from Canada. Seems even back in the 1920’s they had teacher exchanges. She use to talk about the mountains. Where mum lived they werent surrounded by mountains but they there was a large mountain range not far away and she loved looking at the mountains and seeing the sunrise over them.

Snow tires are mandated by law in BC from October through March. Our truck does have 4WD but we wouldn’t have used it that day, and we don’t actually own chains for either of our vehicles. See above re: snow tires and 4WD! Some of what living in a mountainous snowy region entails is to know when to stay off particular highways. :)

Warmth INside anyway LOL. It’s minus 16C outside (about 3F), but it’s bright and sunny. That counts for something, right?!?!
Valerie Comer says
I’ll see if there’s anything I can see on the dashboard. I’ll look for this email address… :)

I grew up further east with no mountains. I saw the Rockies for the first time when I was 10 or 11, and we moved to BC when I was 13. I never get tired of looking at the mountains. On the flatlands, the snow sneaks up on you. One day there’s no snow, the next there’s a whole bunch. (Obviously there are weather reports to warn you, but…). In BC, we can see the snowline coming down the mountain and know we’ll get it soon!

The winter wonderland photos are breathtaking…and great settings for romance, in my humble opinion :) I have always loved winter but in recent years developed a chronic condition that is exacerbated by the cold. For the first time in 35 years, I’m spending the winter in a warmer climate, pain free. I had my doubts but am discovering that I love it! God is so good. I’ll continue to experience winter vicariously and dream about romantic settings through your photos!
Valerie Comer says
Aw, thanks! I truly love winter now that I don’t have to drive to work every day no matter what LOL. But then, it doesn’t actually hurt my body, so there’s that. You definitely need to take care of yourself. Hugs.
