Around here, we’re starting to see back-to-school ads and deals popping up. I’ve seen some Facebook friends whose kids have already gone back to school (!) and others who are gearing up for the pre-school tax-free day.
There’s something about this time of year that I just love. I identify so strongly with Meg Ryan’s character in You’ve Got Mail and her love of school supplies. And I would love to receive a bouquet of sharpened pencils.
My kids don’t really need any new school supplies right now, so it’s all I can do to keep myself out of the aisles. I know I would pick up something — a pack of notebooks, some pens…who knows?
But we did get the rest of our homeschool curriculum this past week and I have spent a few nerdly hours filled with joy as I poke through and loosely plan.
Since we’re mentioning back to school – I’ll just also go ahead and remind you that our big Back to School giveaway kicks off soon – so now is a great time to remind your friends about the blog and encourage them to get in the habit of dropping by!

Blessings this Sunday morning Elizabeth and IR authors and readers! As a retired teacher, I have already purchased some back to school items for my granddaughters. Also I keep some art supplies for craft time at my house. I journal in a 3 ring binder with a Pilot G-2 purple pen and like folders for book club and genealogy research. This week I did a scavenger hunt with my 9 year old granddaughter and last clue and prize was a journal and pencil bag she can take with her to the Oshkosh Air Show this week. Miss being in the classroom, but plan to volunteer in my granddaughter’s class one morning a week. Looking forward to IR BACK to School event. Enjoy your day. Going to hot this week inSW Michigan and we need rain for the blueberries, peaches, veggies especially juicy delicious sweet corn. August is just around the corner.
I had not thought of stocking up and using them for prizes. Hm. I might just have to do that. My boys might still think it’s fun.
Praying you get some rain and relief from the heat!
I never know when school starts since I don’t have kids! I do (kind of) pay attention to the tax free holiday, so that I can get clothes or supplies, though! At least paper doesn’t have an expiration date! I go through a LOT of paper from October through December, plus I need cardstock to make my cards, so I’ll be buying that, and trying to talk myself out of pens and other supplies! A friend was dismantling her office and gave me a lot of folders and things. Some of it I can use, and some of it I can’t, so I have what I can’t use put aside for my great nieces and nephew to use.
Here in the UK schools have just broken up, my son finished on Friday but we’re already getting back to school adds too!
I love stationery and school supplies too – there’s nothing like a nice new notebook and pencil!
I loved the school supplies before we had kids but it was always a ‘oh hey look. Must be time soon.’ kind of realization :)
Oh wow. We at least get a little break before the ads start :) but you’re right, there’s nothing better.
Good morning, I have 3 grandchildren in school, our oldest our grandaughter will be a Senior this year, one of my grandsons will be a Sophomore and our youngest grandson will be in 7th grade, hard to believe they are already in these grades! Our stores here already have school supplies out, they will be starting school on August 14 here. Our 2 grandchildren that live in our same town will be starting their band practices this week. I love looking at school supplies, I do get some of them, I have been homeschooling our 2 grandchildren their Catechism lessons here at my home, and I have been doing that for the past 9 yrs, this is will be our 10th year. :) So I do like getting a couple of school supplies for that and for my self. Have a Blessed Sunday and Blessed week .
Fun! Thanks for sharing ❤️
My baby graduated 17 years ago. When I was at the grocery store the other day, I noticed the back-to-school section. Like you, Elizabeth, it was all I could do, not to pick up some notebooks, pencils, markers, anything and put them in my basket. I love school supplies, too.
Have a great, blessed week.
It’s so hard to leave them there! :)
Have a great day.
Thank you so much, Iola. Congratulations to Texas Momma and Lori. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
Thank you. I have been contacted. Woohoo
