Greetings, Inspy Romance readers, from the Great White North where we had an amazing cold snap last weekend! And I think we weren’t the only place to find the mercury on our thermometers plummeting down toward where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet… -40º! We didn’t get QUITE that cold here — I think we bottomed out at -30C (about -22F), which was plenty cold enough, thank-you-very-much, especially when that arctic front came in on a nasty wind that rattled our house, took out the power for several hours, and froze a couple of waterlines!
I know many places throughout the continent had it worse than we did. I’m thankful for natural gas and that we aren’t completely dependent on electricity to stay warm and fed when the lines are down.
Did the extreme cold hit where you live, North Americans? And I know our Aussies and others in the southern climes are having summer! Seems strange when it’s so cold here!
One thing about the cold — the skies are often the brightest blue imaginable, and the sun glints off the snow so it hurts your eyes. I love that part, even when the dog and I can’t handle being outside for any longer than it takes him to do his business…

That’s just mind blowing to me sweltering down under. Our 30 degrees was hot, but not as hot as central Australia where it can be 40 or 50 degrees during summer and it feels like sandpaper on your face from the dryness of the desert and what you see in the distance is the waves of the heat. Take care.
Valerie Comer says
Hi Dianne! We get those +40ºC temps for a few days some summers. I agree about the feel of sandpaper! Hope you can stay COOL today :)

I can’t even imagine what minus 30C is like! It’s been unusually cold (for us!) where I am in South West England, which means down to about-4 C overnight, which we found bad enough. No snow, although there’s been some in other bits of the UK.
Hope everyone is keeping warm or cool depending on where you are, Happy Sunday to you all.
Valerie Comer says
Staying warm here! Thanks, Ruthie :)
Alicia Haney says
Hi, it has been cold here in West Texas. The sun is out, but it is pretty cold over here. May you all have a great week. God Bless you all. Thank you for sharing the photos, makes me very cold just looking at them.

Hi Alicia! Hopefully my photos made the view out your window warm by comparison :)

Florida even decided to participate in winter!! We had wind chills this morning in the 20’s and 30’s, which is about 20 degrees colder than “normal” for us this time of year, I think they said. Our high today got in the low 60’s. On Friday, we’re to be upper 70’s low 80’s for highs, and our lows at night in the 60’s. The dew points this morning were in the teens and 20’s, which means really low humidity for us! I’ve enjoyed it!! The “snowbirds” and ones that moved here from up North are the ones complaining!!! lol!!
Valerie Comer says
Brrr, Trudy! I know your Florida houses aren’t built for such cold temperatures. I bet the farms and orchards are struggling too.
Trudy says
Some of them! There wasn’t a freeze, since we had the wind all night, and most of the state was under wind chill warnings until about 9 or 10 this morning. I got up at 5:33, checked the temp in the house, and it was 63, so I turned the heater on and went back to bed until 6:15. I turned the heater off when I left for church, and when I got home at 1 it was up to a whopping 65. I checked earlier and it was a whopping 66. I haven’t turned the heat back on, though. I’ll be sleeping very well tonight, with it that cool in the house!
Valerie Comer says
Oh, nice! I love sleeping in a cool room, especially if I don’t have to listen to the AC or a fan to get it that way!
